I recently received some lovely chocolate samples from Chuao Chocolatier. They arrived in an alluring red box with black tissue paper. Over the years I’ve become a bit of a snob about packaging and presentation, and I guarantee that Chuao products do not disappoint. The boxes have a pleasant look and feel and the chocolates are carefully crafted and packaged. Because of this, I was torn between giving them as a gift and eating all up myself! Unfortunately for the person I had in mind, I felt that I had to eat them all up myself…in the name of my readers of course!
I received a box of both the Aphrodisiac Heart Bonbon Collection and the Love Child Bonbon Collection. What I noticed about Chuao Chocolatiers is that their bonbons have a different flavor from that of other chocolate makers. I have tried chocolates of many different brands both expensive and affordable and Chuao is definitely unique.
The Aphrodisiac Heart Collection contains “five luscious caramels, infused with tempting treats, and bedded in decadent chocolate.” In them are also different ingredients that are intended to act as an aphrodisiac; such as dark chocolate, passion fruit, mint, strawberry, and rosemary. In the Aphrodisiac Heart Bonbon Collection, I received 5 flavors: Salt Butter Caramel, Sweet Passion, Meyer Lemon Mojito, Strawberry Seduction, and Rosemary Salted Caramel.
As I mentioned Chuao has a very unique flavor. While they’re of course sweet, they have a sometimes tangy, herbal flavor that is more savory than sugary. I found that although they were delicious, I had a hard time deciding just how to describe their flavor. You can definitely taste the unique ingredients the chocolatier added inside of each of the different creamy, liquid caramel centers. And the caramel! I loved how luscious and soft the caramel was. It was practically drinkable!
The other chocolates I received were the Love Child Bonbons. These were sweet and savory with a rich and dense truffle filling. While the Aphrodisiac Heart Bonbons quell my urge for something sweet, it is the Love Child Bonbons that satisfy my chocolate cravings. Often I find that truffles are almost too sweet for me, but these were perfect! They are right in between fudge and the perfect chocolate cake with a hint of strawberry. In fact, in the center is a small piece of fruit that is just the right size!
With Valentine’s day swiftly approaching, it’s almost time to start thinking about gifts for our loved ones. If you have a chocolate lover in your family, Chuao Chocolatier is the right choice! Take a look around their website and at their Valentine’s Day section to find the perfect gift.
