Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu and Eevee! #PokemonLetsGo

November 16, 2018 by Beeb Leave a Comment

Big news, Pokémon Trainers: Today marks the release of two brand new games and a Poké Ball accessory for Nintendo Switch! Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!, Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!, and the Poké Ball Plus accessory are now available on Nintendo.com and the Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch as well as in stores. The exciting news was celebrated by a midnight launch party at Nintendo NY in Rockefeller Plaza, where Pikachu and Eevee themselves came out to greet fans!

Pikachu

In both Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!, you’ll immerse yourself in the Kanto region as a Pokémon Trainer going on an epic adventure with either Eevee or Pikachu, depending which game you play. Catch and train Pokémon and battle other Pokémon Trainers, Gym Leaders and Team Rocket as you go on your epic journey with Pikachu or Eevee. You’ll encounter classic characters and many types of Pokémon, with the impressive true-to-size versions of these Pokémon roaming the in-game world.

Eevee

Make your adventure even more fun with the Poké Ball Plus, an awesome new accessory for Nintendo Switch that allows you to have your own real-life Poké Ball! You can control the entire game with just the Poké Ball, capturing Pokémon by making a gentle throwing motion with the Poké Ball Plus. Every Poké Ball Plus contains the Mythical Pokémon Mew, and things get even more interactive when you put any Pokémon inside your Poké Ball Plus to take it outside for a walk in the real world so that you can level it up and snag in-game rewards!

And because both the Poké Ball Plus and both Let’s Go games are are compatible with Pokémon GO, you can also use your Poké Ball to catch Pokémon and items from Poké Stops in Pokémon GO without having to use your smartphone. You can also transfer Pokémon captured in the Kanto region into Pokémon GO, including the newly discovered Mythical Pokémon, Meltan and Melmetal, as well as the Alolan and Shiny forms. And if your friends and family also have one of the games on Nintendo Switch, you’ll be able to battle and trade Pokémon with them too! (Or, share the game with them on your own system by playing the game in TV or Tabletop mode using two controllers!)

For newer Pokémon fans, these games offer a great entry point to the Kanto region with a rich story full of memorable characters and RPG gameplay, while longtime fans can revisit the place where it all began to compete in tough new challenges and earn the title of Pokémon Master,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “With the ability to play the games anytime, anywhere on Nintendo Switch, Pikachu and Eevee are the perfect travel companions this holiday season.”

Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! are available for $59.99 each or in a bundle with the Poké Ball Plus for $99.99. If you haven’t gotten a Nintendo Switch system yet, you can purchase a special, extremely limited edition Let’s Go bundle with themed controllers, the Poké Ball Plus and a download code for one of the games for $399.99. Be sure to read our post on why you should get a Nintendo Switch if you haven’t made the leap yet!

So tell me, Pokémon Trainers: Are you Team Pikachu or Team Eevee?

Pokémon Ultra Sun & Pokémon Ultra Moon Kid Review

May 22, 2018 by Momstart 1 Comment

Samples received from Nintendo

imageAs part of the Nintendo Kid Reviewer program, Zoe and Miles are on their own. This is their thoughts on the Nintendo 3DS and 2DS video game Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon. Getting them to write reviews is still like pulling teeth. However, making videos of course that’s their jam. So yesterday they filmed two different videos for Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon. Here is their video where they focused a little more on Pokémon Ultra Sun

In this next video Miles and Zoe focus on Pokemon Ultra Moon, trading pokemon with quick links and just how Miles likes to play.

When we do these Kid Reviews, I try to lead them with questions. So they did answer these questions about Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon.

image

What is your favorite game feature?

Zoe: My favorite game feature is the new ultra beasts. I love Pokémon so I am super happy to see the new Pokémon.

Miles: That is a hard question to answer. It would probably be that you can trade your Pokémon and or battle with any of your friends as long as they are close to you. You can do all of that with quick-link. So I guess that I could say they my  favorite game feature is quick link.

What is your least favorite game feature?

Zoe: That is hard to answer but I would probably have to say the fact that it is a lot like the first Pokémon sun and moon games.

Miles:  I love playing this game i wouldn’t say that I one but I do wish that they changed the story a bit more.

What is your favorite character?

Zoe: Aloan region Ninetails

Miles:  dusk form Lycanroc

What does this game make you think of or remind you of?

Zoe: Hawaii and the Pokémon Tv show

Miles:  Pokémon sun and moon heh heh

Would you recommend this game? Why?

Zoe: Not really, its hard to say because this game is exactly like Pokémon sun and moon except with new features. But then I really enjoy the new features and i love the new Pokémon so its hard to say.

Miles:  yes because it is fun to play and also there is some really funny content but I would also recommend it because it has a spirit of adventure and challenges you to think strategically

Zoe is 11 and Miles is 10.

Throughout 2018 there will be multiple ways for kids to add Legendary Pokémon, some of the most powerful and well-known Pokémon, to their Pokémon Ultra Sun, Pokémon Ultra Moon, Pokémon Sun or Pokémon Moon game!

We have to tell you Pokémon fans can receive a free download code each month for their Pokémon Ultra Sun, Pokémon Ultra Moon, Pokémon Sun or Pokémon Moon game to get a select Legendary Pokémon! Each month, the free download codes can be retrieved at either one of our retail partners such as Best Buy, Target and GameStop, or through the Pokémon Trainer Club newsletter (Pokémon Trainer Club account required). Reasons To Buy Mario Rabbids Kingdom Battle for Nintendo Switch #NintendoAmerica #Sponsored

September 29, 2017 by Momstart Leave a Comment

This is a partnered post with Nintendo.

The Nintendo Switch is an innovative gaming console that combines being a home console, a portable console, a multiplayer console, and a motion-sensitive console into one. Thanks to the unique design of the handset and data storage systems, It is a must-have for kids and adults who love games. The next questions after getting a Nintendo Switch is what games do you get?

Mario Rabbids Kingdom Battle

So far, we have gone over, Legend of Zelda, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Super Mario Odyssey. Legend of Zelda, went back to their roots, taking advantage of the new system for a more immersive game, whereas others, like the Mario franchise, are exploring the range of new possibilities which have opened up. One of the best games released for the Switch so far is Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. This game is one of the craziest games to come out in ages, mashing together the Mario franchise and the Rabbids franchise to form an amazing universe full of challenges, and exploration.

Combining Mario and Rabbids is a bit of a wild card from Nintendo. I would not have expected them to work together. I always figured Mario was more for nostalgia and smaller kids, and Rabbids was more for teenagers and twenty somethings. The mash up of cute and traditional gaming with kind of strange and quirky gaming shouldn’t work. But it really does.

Mario Rabbids Kingdom Battle

In this game a malfunctioning time washing machine brings the Rabbids into Mushroom Kingdom. Which, as you can probably guess, causes more than a little chaos. The Rabbids start merging with the creatures of Mushroom Kingdom, creating some bizarre and revolting monsters, and both Rabbids and monsters start tearing apart the Mushroom Kingdom, in the way they usually do.

In an unexpected turn of events, there happen to be a Mario Rabbid, as well as doppelgangers for pretty much everyone in his world. And these Rabbids and the usual cast of Mario agree that it is better to put the world to rights and split their universes again. This is where the player is involved. You can choose between single player story mode or a series of co-op challenges to take you through the steps until everything is fixed. The players solve all sorts of puzzles, explore the world, and track down necessary items as they march through four distinct Mario worlds to help the cast solve their Rabbid problem.

image

The game is a joy to play, not just an enjoyable story. There is plenty of strategy and opportunities to use your wit and gaming skills to get what you need. The role-playing element is linked in, but not too much of a driver for the story. And your choice of character really impacts your gameplay, as every character is unique in terms of special skills, equipment, and personality, meaning that especially in multiplayer mode you need to pay special attention to your strategy.

But don’t worry if your kids aren’t familiar with this level of tactical gaming yet. Like most new installments to the Mario franchise, this game includes a step by step tutorial where players can practice new codes, moves, and concepts, letting them explore and discover this new universe before being set free to follow the adventure. All in all, this game is great for most older kids and all teenagers, but also quite fun for younger kids if they get a little support.

The only bad news here is that there seems to be no intention of making this game into a series. However, Nintendo have announced they have plenty of plans for downloadable extras and packages, which will hopefully keep all players happy until they see the error of their ways and agree to release a sequel game.

Reasons To Buy Super Mario Odyssey for Nintendo Switch #NintendoAmerica #Sponsored

September 28, 2017 by Momstart Leave a Comment

This is a partnered post.

Holiday Season is on it´s way, but even if you are reading this and it´s not time to buy Christmas presents and you just want to know if you should by the Nintendo Switch and Super Mario Odyssey, we will break it down for you. Nintendo revolutionizes gaming pretty routinely. From their arcade game systems, to the portability of the GameBoy, to the motion-sensitive Wii, Nintendo has always had a focus on gaming as an experience. It’s not just about graphics or the story, after all, you can get amazing graphics and a good story from a movie, or even a comic book, or a different gaming system. What Nintendo does is they take something which is a fun activity and they give us more ways of engaging it, better things to do with it, a much wider array of fun. The Switch embodies this innovative spirit. It has taken the traditional Nintendo system and made it into something new and unique: a games console that is all in one like the Nintendo Switch. But the hard part is deciding on which games to get and a great option is the Mario franchise.

image

Most recently, Nintendo has announced the release of Super Mario Odyssey, October 27th, which makes the very most of all the new and amazing features on this innovative console. Nintendo has offered an impressive bundle, the contents of which have barely just been revealed. During a broadcast the company displayed what could be found in the soon to be available bundle: Amiibo figures of Mario, Princess Peach, and Bowser in wedding attire, photo mode, and red Joy-Cons along with the console and switch case. It really will be a complete package for players.

Switch_SMO_ND0913_SCRN17_bmp_jpgcopy

The photo mode is a new addition which makes use of Switch’s screenshot feature. The console will let you screenshot anything at all you like, of course, but playing this game your kids will be able to set up and take the perfect shots they want of their gameplay, to show and share with friends.

Some features of the gameplay were also revealed during this presentation. The story seems much more solid than in many of the recently released multiplayer Mario games, and is going back to Mario’s roots as a multilevel adventure and rescue game. There are many levels and settings to play in, with plenty of detail and fun games. Not to mention cool features like the power ups which come with the outfits. For those wedding costumes, a player as Mario is temporarily invincible, Princess Peach gains a life-up heart, and Bowser attains regional coin location information.Switch_SMO_ND0913_SCRN21

Mario’s journey seems exciting and immersive, despite the cartoon style of the adventure. The settings are incredibly varied and the universe is more open than before, in an ongoing trend from Nintendo that will only continue as access to more gigs becomes a common feature of their consoles. In effect, they have broken free of the restrictions of the Wii and are crafting the next generation of gaming.

And if Super Mario Odyssey is not quite right for your kids, there are still plenty of options on the Nintendo Switch. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is another fantastic option, a new and creative way of playing this traditional Mario game. There is also Mario Kingdom Battle available, which kids are bound to love. There is even talk of a Nintendo Switch Mario Party, although unfortunately this will not be an option for this Christmas, as it is still in development. And besides the Mario titles there are plenty of amazing Nintendo Switch games out right now which your kids might love.

Reasons to Buy Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for Nintendo Switch #Sponsored #NintendoAmerica

September 26, 2017 by Momstart Leave a Comment

This is a partnered post with Nintendo.

The Nintendo Switch is undoubtedly one of the best new consoles on the market. If you’ve been following along you know that we’ve been covering different reasons to buy the Nintendo Switch this holiday season, including the newest Legend of Zelda. It also uses the most developed motion sensor and touchable technology, to transfer games between your TV and portable device, even to sync and play with up to eight other people at a time. But none of that matters without the games on it. If the games aren’t good enough, your kids won’t use the console no matter how advanced it is. So what games are available?

image

Today let’s explore Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. This game is based on the same underlying system as the Wii Mario Kart games. Some hardcore gamers may see this as a downside, but for you and your kids it is a solid upside: if they liked Mario Kart on the Wii, they will probably have fun with and use this game, so you know you can get it for them. We loved Mario Kart on the Wii. Remember, this one they can take on the go with them.

image

That said, there are a few solid differences between this game and the Wii versions which make it all the more special. It is a much more upgraded than their last games. It runs at 1080p, as opposed to 720 on the Wii, meaning much smoother images and real time movements, kind of essential for a game you may be playing via motion sensors, and ending the constant “lag” arguments that happen when someone loses a race.

image

It comes with around 50 race tracks with great and challenging designs, making sure there are plenty of hours of fun to be had. What is more, on top of all our usual favorite Mario Kart characters they have added another five new characters. Inkling Girl, Inking Boy, Bowser Jr., Dry Bones, and King Boo are now playable characters, much to the delight of kids who love their designs and personalities. There are also some new kart designs which your kids are bound to love.

As far as playability is concerned, the game is very well adapted to the system. You can split the screen between up to four players, and if you link several systems together you can have twelve players racing against each other. What is more, you can clutch two items at the same time, and it has a smart steering option, making it much easier for younger kids in the family to play this edition of Mario Kart than previous editions. All in all, it is a pleasant experience for long time players and newcomers alike. It’s the perfect family game and one of my favorites to play.

image

Battle Mode has been changed the most of all, though. Not massively. You can still play the usual games which involve squaring off against the characters, or other players, in challenges that let you test your skills. And most of these games are still pretty much the same. But there are some cool and interesting upgrades to them. In Balloon Battle there is much better, smoother movement. And Shine Thief is much more detailed as well. But they have also added a new game: Renegade Roundup. In this mode you are split into teams and one will try to capture the other team and put them in jail, a bit like cops and robbers. You are under a time pressure to complete the challenge, but the escaping team has an ace up their sleeve: they can sneak up and release their teammates from prison.

image

In short, other than in graphics this game really isn’t much different from the latest Wii editions of Mario Kart. But that isn’t a bad thing. If you know your kids love Mario Kart, then this is a dead-cert present which will be used loads if you get in for Christmas. What is more, the new system provides an opportunity for more varied and more social play, which will ensure your kids make the most use of it.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild For Nintendo Switch #Sponsored #NintendoAmerica

September 25, 2017 by Momstart Leave a Comment

This is a partnered post.

When looking for a perfect Christmas gift for kids, it can be hard to know where to start. The way kids play is now closely connected to technology, and the toys they want are changing every single year. The latest arrival is the Nintendo Switch, a revolutionary gaming system released this year. In the Switch, Nintendo combines all the best aspects of gaming, creating a new system that does incredible things. The Nintendo Switch is at once a home gaming system which connects to your TV, a portable system which means you can take even your TV games with you everywhere, a motion-sensitive platform much like the Wii, and a multiplayer system which lets you synchronize up to eight Switches, or split your controller and play with a friend. Naturally, this game console will be top of the list for most kids who don’t already have one. But whether your kids have one already or are getting one for Christmas, for many parents the next question is “What Nintendo Switch games do I get my kids this Christmas?”

image

There is no shortage of great games available for the Nintendo Switch console right now, that’s for sure. The medley of Mario games are among my personal favorites, simply because they are bringing the fun of traditional Mario games into a new and interesting system which enhances them and allows for new and exciting ways to play. But a game universe that has gone completely crazy (in a good way) on the Switch is the universe of Zelda. The latest installation of The Legend of Zelda is Breath of the Wild. For a long time Zelda games have been trying to be something big and bold, trying to compete with online fantasy games, MMORPG, and games like the Elder Scrolls series. However, they have never been quite as big and bold as the creators seemed to want them to be. And that’s perfect, because the beauty of the Zelda franchise is in its simplicity. The slow but steady journey of Link through the kingdom is the enjoyable part of this franchise, and a gritty reboot is the last thing it needs.

image

Which is what makes Breath of the Wild so charming. Rather than trying to go big yet again, Breath of the Wild returns to the franchise’s simple roots, focusing on a more traditional, fantasy story which the players of Zelda most enjoy. The game starts out with you stuck on a wall-surrounded plateau, completely shut off from Hyrule, sort of aimlessly there. It takes a while playing to finally gain a hang glider which will carry you safely to the ground and your adventure can begin. This sort of sets the tone for the rest of the game. You find yourself faced with puzzling and complex challenges, having to work hard to keep yourself moving forward. This is drawn out enough to be a challenge, but not so much as to become frustrating.

The main mission is to rescue Hyrule from slowly falling apart after Ganondorf, a sort of infectious evil and decay, took over. You learn that your Link has died and been brought back to life for this express purpose. Your progress towards your goal is slow and steady. Your objectives are spread out far and wide and you spend a lot of your time just travelling and taking everything in, which is actually pretty fun in and of itself. You get to see all the work that has been put into the game at your own leisure, and enjoy the little details.

image

That said, some of the features seen in larger fantasy games have made an appearance here. The game world is much more open than before, allowing for wandering quests and missions of self-discovery along the way to saving the kingdom. This means that you are no longer stuck in choreographed events and forced to play the game like a long walkthrough, the way some previous Zelda games were. Now you can explore and discover in new ways, without sacrificing the charm of the series.

Should You Get A Nintendo Switch #Sponsored #NintendoAmerica

September 22, 2017 by Momstart 1 Comment

This is a partnered post.

Kids and videogames just go together like peanut butter and jelly. Ever since the first arcades which I grew up in, and then the start of affordable home gaming systems, we have only got better and better at designing games for kids. So much so that now it’s just a normal part of modern life. Gone are the days of wondering whether our kids should be playing games at all, and putting the pressure on them to be outside more. Now we understand that moderation is key, and that videogames are perfectly safe. Which is why most households have more than one game console. The question we are considering is should I Get a Nintendo Switch?

Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Switch is all in one, it saves you the trouble of buying three different systems: one for motion-sensitive games, one portable one, and one for conventional gaming. This not only saves money and space on systems, but is also very convenient in terms of the games your children will play. No longer will they be so absorbed in a game that it’s impossible to get them out the door: now they can bring the game with them, and carry on playing it outside, in the car, or split the controller and play with their friends.

There is a pretty good variety of games you can play on this console too, so its variety of features and functions will not go wasted. In short, this is a brilliant gaming console to give a kid for Christmas this year, as it will be thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

Kid Reviewer Miitopia Nintendo 3DS Game Walk Through

August 17, 2017 by Momstart 2 Comments

As part of the Nintendo Kid Reviewer program, Zoe and Miles are on their own. This is their thoughts on the Nintendo 3DS video game Miitopia.

image

By Miles Bishop:

Miitopia is a really fun game to play something that I like about the game is that there are a lot of customizations for the characters to choose from. The farther into the game that you get you can build your mii warriors’ relationships between each other. Another feature I like about the game is that you can choose the entire mii cast with your own miis.

Miles also created a video for us:

By Zoe Bishop:

Miitopia is fun game, but I don’t like that I had to delete my brothers game to start my own game. When you play, you can only have one game going at a time, so when it was my turn to play I had to just use his game. The boss levels are sort of hard and you only get to create four characters. I like the characters and that you get to customize them and their outfits I wish the outfits weren’t so expensive in the game. I like the raffle tickets and how you get to win things for your characters but how does that relate to the game otherwise?

Questions About Miitopia

What is your favorite game feature?

Zoe: the costumes

Miles: My favoriate game feature is how hard the enemies are

What is your least favorite game feature?

Zoe: the bad guys are to hard

Miles: I don’t know if I have one

What is your favorite character?

Zoe: the character I make

Miles: My favorite character is me and the mage

What does this game make you think of or remind you of?

Zoe: nothing

Miles: doesn’t really remind me of anything

Would you recommend this game?

Zoe: yes

Miles: Totally!
