The Return of The Lion King To Seattle

September 7, 2018 by Momstart Leave a Comment

Last time The Lion King was the The Paramount Theater we LOVED it. We took our family, even as young as they were then and it was breathtaking. The sets are one thing but the costumes and the singing talent are a completely amazing thing of their own. I highly recommend that you get tickets as they are going on sale next week, September 10th.

Woodinville Wine Country Taste & Tunes

July 19, 2018 by Momstart Leave a Comment

This year my husband and I purchased a wine passport and after registering it, we are now receiving all of the goods on Woodinville Wine Country. Every time I get a new e-mail I want to go out and try some more wineries. I almost convinced my sister to come up and do a wine walk with me because my favorite winery was listed.

image

There is another fun weekend on the books, I won’t be able to attend because I’m about to go on another press trip. This time I’m off to LA again for Christopher Robin, but if I was staying home I would be dragging my husband to Taste & Tunes.

On Sunday June 29th, you get to join Eye of the Needle, Love That Red, Patterson Cellars and Warr-King Wines in the alley of Building D for a day of wine tasting and tunes. All you have to do is bring your own glass and your party lawn chair so you can enjoy two bands and more than a dozen different wines from these award-winning wineries.

Your ticket includes 10 tasting tickets, and an opportunity to win one of six raffle prizes!
15% off all purchases of wine beyond your tasting tickets.

Food will be available to purchase for $12 from the infamous Russells Restaurant and Catering. And I highly recommend Russells, my husband and I eat there all the time for date night.

TIME: Noon – 6pm
Place: 19500 144th Ave NE Woodinville, WA 98072
Alley between buildings C and D

Kids Broadway Auditions: Waitress

July 7, 2018 by Momstart Leave a Comment

We have exciting news for those of you that like to act. You all should know by now that my children love to act. They are my little drama queens. If you have a drama queen, Broadway at the Paramount is holding unique auditions.

image

WAITRESS: the Tony® nominated musical will be premiering at The Paramount Theatre on Tuesday, September 11 for a limited engagement and is looking for two young girls to perform the role of “Lulu” for the duration of the Seattle engagement.

WAITRESS tells the story of “Jenna”, an expert pie baker working at a local diner and stuck in a loveless marriage.  Her salvation comes in the form of her daughter, “Lulu.”

The character of “Lulu” is a sweet and carefree 4 to 5-year-old who appears in the production’s finale scene.  Qualified young girls should be shorter than 4’2 and be no older than 5 years and 3 months.  Individual applicants are welcome, as are sets of twins or siblings. Space is limited to the first 60 applicants to sign up.

To sign up for an audition, visit www.BroadwayatTheParamount.com/LuluAudition

The “Search for Lulu” Auditions will take place in Seattle on Monday, July 23 at The Westlake Dance Center (14713 Bothell Way NE | Shoreline, WA 98155).  The morning auditions are from 10AM – 12 pm, and afternoon auditions are from 1 – 3pm. The audition will consist of the child reading two lines from the show. If possible, parents should bring a current head shot and resume for each child. Headshot, resume and prior acting experience is not required.

The character of “Lulu” will be cast locally in each tour market and two girls are chosen to share the role.  Each girl chosen will perform in 4 performances each during the one-week engagement.

Brought to life by a groundbreaking all-female creative team, this irresistible new hit features original music and lyrics by 6-time Grammy nominee Sara Bareilles (“Brave,” “Love Song”), a book by acclaimed screenwriter Jessie Nelson (“I Am Sam”) and direction by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus (Finding Neverland, Pippin, Hair).

Inspired by Adrienne Shelley’s beloved film WAITRESS tells the story of Jenna – a waitress and expert pie maker, Jenna dreams of a way out of her small town and loveless marriage.  A baking contest in a nearby county and the town’s new doctor may offer her a chance at a fresh start, while her fellow waitresses offer their own recipes for happiness.  But Jenna must summon the strength and courage to rebuild her own life.

“It’s an empowering musical of the highest order!” raves the Chicago Tribune.  “WAITRESS is a little slice of heaven!” says Entertainment Weekly and “a monumental contribution to Broadway!” according to Marie Claire.  Don’t miss this uplifting musical celebrating friendship, motherhood, and the magic of a well-made pie.

WAITRESS will be at Seattle’s Paramount Theatre for only eight performances. The schedule for the Seattle engagement is:
Tuesday, September 11                         7:30pm
Wednesday, September 12                    7:30pm
Thursday, September 13                        7:30pm
Friday, September 14                             8:00pm
Saturday, September 15                         2:00pm

8:00pm

Sunday, September 16                           1:00pm – An ASL / AVIA Interpreted performance*

6:30pm – An Open Caption performance*

*For tickets to these performances, call the TTY line at 888-331-6774.

Tickets are now available for WAITRESS. Tickets start at $35 and are available on-line at STGPresents.org, Ticketmaster.com, by calling 1-800-982-2787 or in person at The Paramount Theatre Box Office (Monday through Friday, 10am to 6pm).

It rains a lot in Seattle and that rain makes for beautiful flowers. What’s a great way to cheer people up? It’s by sharing those beautiful flowers. That’s what Daffodil Day is, it’s the spreading and sharing of Daffodils in Seattle. Here is the who what when where of Daffodil Day.

How do Seattleites know its spring when the skies are gray and the summer sun seems months away? It’s the arrival of the annual Pike Place Market Daffodil Day, when Market volunteers swarm throughout downtown like busy bees to herald the first day of spring. This year, Market volunteers and community members will hand out more than 9,000 individual flowers at 15 locations, giving Seattleites a reason to smile, no matter the weather. All of the flowers are locally grown by Pike Place Market farmers, another local tradition.

How Vitafusion & Walmart are Celebrating Local Jobs

December 15, 2017 by Beeb 1 Comment

Investing in American Jobs

Thanks to Bloggin’ Mamas for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own. Most photos courtesy Christina Gibson.

vitafusion™ is dedicated to making nutrition taste good with their yummy adult gummy vitamins. But you know what’s sweeter than a gummy? How the company has sustained hundreds of local manufacturing jobs. The parent company of vitafusion™, Church & Dwight Co., Inc., has two manufacturing facilities based in Vancouver, Washington, and yesterday I attended a special event at their local office to learn more about the company’s efforts in the Pacific Northwest.

Gummies

The Church & Dwight Co., Inc. Vancouver area facilities currently employ over 400 people and will produce over 1.6 billion gummies this year. That’s a lot of gummies! This production is supported in part by Walmart’s initiative to buy an additional $250 billion in American-made products by 2023. “Walmart has been great for our business and their purchasing has allowed us to make a strong impact on our communities by creating jobs at local factories,” said Laurie Kirschner, Director of Marketing for Vitamins & Supplements at Church & Dwight.

Celebrating local job creation at Church & Dwight Co., Inc.

During the event, we heard from employees and local officials, including Mayor of Ridgefield Ron Onslow, about the positive impact this has on the community. In addition to sustaining local jobs, Church & Dwight Co., Inc. is committed to sustainability, with the goal of using 100% renewable electricity in all US plants and corporate offices by the end of 2018. Mayor Onslow commended these eco-friendly efforts and contribution to the local economy, telling the crowd: “I’m thrilled to be here celebrating these many jobs that Church & Dwight and Walmart support in the great state of Washington.”

Jana, Amber, Carol & Beeb

At the event with Carol, Amber & Jana

After the presentation, I also had a chance to taste a few of these locally-produced gummies! I was impressed by how many different supplements they offer for almost every need. Some of the newest additions to the line include vitafusion™ Everyday Energy and vitafusion™ Simply Good line, which uses juice from Pacific Northwest pears and contains no High Fructose Corn Syrup. They also have a full line of gummy vitamins for children called L’il Critters™.

vitafusion™

I have to confess something: I have a really hard time taking vitamins. When I was a child, my health-conscious mom gave me large handfuls of vitamins to take every single day. If you’ve ever taken herbal supplements like echinacea, then you know that they taste awful, especially to a little kid. Oh, if only I had L’il Critters™ back then! Because of that gross association, I have somewhat of a Pavlovian reaction to taking vitamins as an adult and just can’t do it without gagging. That is why I love, love, love these vitafusion™ gummies! They taste just like candy – even the ones with echinacea in them! It’s amazing! I made a beeline for the Vitamin C gummies during the event, since I’m recovering after being sick for 3 weeks. And since I live in the Pacific Northwest, I’m going to pick up some of their Vitamin D gummies the next time I am at Walmart for sure!
