Aloha Friday – Back To School Tax Free

August 20, 2009 by Momstart 15 Comments

alohafriday5 Kailani says “In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that they take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response”. You should go to Kailani’s site and link up with Mr. Linky/Mk Linky, but be sure and answer her question.

So my question for today is

Do you know of any back to school sales we need to know about?

One biggie I wanted to share is that this weekend is the Tax Free weekend in the state of Texas.

Aloha Friday – Time Away

So my question for today is

What is the longest amount of time you have been away from your family/Spouse/Significant Other?

This is the longest amount of time I have been away from my husband. We left to go visit my parents so that I could selfishly get some time away. I wanted to go on a few blogging trips. It’s been three weeks and we have two and a half more and I miss my husband so much. My kids are loving getting spoiled by the grandparents, but at night or when they are tired they miss daddy. So I was just wondering how long have you been away?

So my question for today is

Do you think that blogs are going to be moving towards Vlogs or not?

I think know, I don’t think everyone is into Vlogs. I was talking to Jennifer James from MomBloggersClub and she feels the same way that I do. A lot of people get annoyed with sound or they don’t have the patience for video to load. They would prefer to skim the page. I don’t ever have my sound on on my computer. My kids are in bed and my volume is off. When I do VLogs I keep this in mind. I write up a different version of what I said on my Vlog. What is your opinion on the subject?

Have you ever been star struck?

I was in Chicago on Wednesday this week meeting some of the best bloggers in fashion and mommy hood. I also met the design team from Sears Holding Corporation. I was completely star struck. I felt like a little newbie among the pros. Here’s who I met.

      Tanya from Mommy Goggles
      Amanda from Mommy Mandy
      Gabrielle from  DesignMom
      Miranda from    KeeperOfTheCheerios

      Stacy from   MomCentral
      Erica from 5MinutesForMom

      Christine from FromDatesToDiapers
      Stephanie from AdventuresInBabyWearing
      Felicia from  GoGrahamGo
      Lori from  ACowboysWife

And from SHC:

Theresa Strickland

Rick

and a whole other cast of characters that I will introduce you to as I have time, but it was amazing. They are all just people and knowledgeable and helpful. I learned so much about Kmart, Sears and social media.

Do you ever feel overbooked?

I currently feel overbooked with my blog right now. I have so many reviews due and I don’t feel like doing any of them today. I hope I feel like writing tomorrow night. I know some families feel this way with their kids so what kind of overbooking do you have?

Aloha Friday in honor of Michael Jackson

June 25, 2009 by MomStart 24 Comments

alohafriday5 Kailani says “In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that they take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response”. You should go to Kailani’s site and link up with Mr. Linky, but don’t be rude, be sure and answer her question.

My Question:

What is your favorite Michael Jackson song

I have been going back in forth in my head about writing about Michael Jackson and his death. I mean I’m not exactly fond of the guy but he had some great songs over the years. All of the accusations in his life really clouded his music and if he’s guilty or not of what people say he has done; he continued to put himself in ridiculous situations. It’s difficult to grow up in the spot light of the public. I can’t judge but I can say that as a child born in the 80’s I loved his music once upon a time.

Yes Thriller was a good one, Beat it, Billie Jean,  but I think my favorite one was Black or White.

The MTV Video Vanguard Artist of the Decade Award was given to Jackson to celebrate his accomplishments in the art form in the 1980s; the following year the award was renamed in his honor.[73] "Black or White" was accompanied by a controversial music video, which, on November 14, 1991, simultaneously premiered in 27 countries with an estimated audience of 500 million people, the largest viewing ever for a music video.[72] It featured scenes construed as having a sexual nature as well as depictions of violence. The offending scenes in the final half of the 14-minute version were edited out to prevent the video from being banned, and Jackson apologized.[176] Along with Jackson, it featured Macaulay Culkin, Peggy Lipton and George Wendt. It helped usher in morphing as an important technology in music videos.[177]

My Question:

What’s your favorite memory with your father?

Oh wow, this is a hard question maybe I shouldn’t have asked. I have so many good memories of my dad. I loved how he looked at my children when he came to visit. I loved that he came to my wedding and walked me down the aisle. I think for now I’m going to go with when I went off to college. He knew he wasn’t going to help me in college. So he told me, if someone offers to help, don’t say no. It’s ok to accept help when you need it. Now that I’ve picked that one I can think of so many more. hmm

He always played with my step sister and I. We had the best game nights

My Question:

Do you smile or frown?

Odd question I know, but I’m a smile. I smile a lot, and so do my kids. I think children are naturally happy, but lots of moms look at my kids and think I have the two best behaved children ever. Anyways, my husband has a natural frown, so when he does smile it brightens his face so much. Even worse though is my step mom, I don’t even think she realizes it. I’m not trying to sound mean, I think it’s just the natural shape some people’s lips take. Some even sit neutral as a natural position. Maybe this was a bad question, or I’m not answering my own question with too much information. Hmmmm
