Welcome to Day 5

So, you can join in on the fun any day you want to. All you have to do is answer a question on your blog and then go tell momdot you did that. If you want more entries then you can visit other blogs and make friends. It’s a win win either way. I love the traffic my site is getting from this.
Question 5……..Do you volunteer during the Holidays? What organizations do you donate your time to? How do you teach your children the true meaning of the holidays?
I have not volunteered in the past but I have always wanted to. One year at the church we were in charge of leading the youth. So we made an event where they served dinner to their parents. I did all of the cooking and they helped with the plating and they decorated and served their parents and provided entertainment. They had to pay for the ticket for their parents to come as well. It was a lot of fun and taught the youth to give back to their parents.
Now I only have babies but I really want to teach them the true meaning of Christmas. So we started last year reading the story of Christ’s birth. It is an Awesome touch and feel book. My daughter likes to sit and pretend to read.
I hope that we can keep presents at a min, and teach them how to give. For Halloween we went trick or treating for food. I hope that by doing things like this we can teach them the importance of helping others in need.
That’s really sweet!
I bet the parents loved that meal!!
What a cool church function!
What a great thing to teach the youth. I don’t think enough kids these days are taught to give back to their parents. Great idea.
What a great thing to do having the kids serve their parents!
Trick or treating for food… how did this work? Was it something people were expecting or did you just go door to door and surprise people? Please share more!
I love that your daughter pretends to read. That is a very good sign – my children who did this are all very good readers and they enjoy it, too. Touch and feel books are great. Never too early to teach them about Christmas!
I too would love to know how you did the trick or treating for food.
I loved the church dinner with the kids and parents. I bet the parents enjoyed their kids serving dinner etc. That should be a yearly tradition at your church.
Thanks for being a VIP sponsor at MOMDot’s blog party.
