Before I get into all the amazing Black Panther Bonus Features that you can check out, I wanted to share what we’ve shared so far. One, we have some Black Panther Printable Bingo Cards: Free Download!, and then two we have a Ruth E. Carter Interview: Behind The Costumes of Black Panther, and we have our own photos of the Black Panther costumes that we took last summer at D23: Black Panther Costumes & Release Date. There is so much to share from Black Panther so let’s get into how excited Nate was to talk to us about Black Panther.
With any Blu-ray release there are some really fun deleted scenes. Nate told us that deleted scenes are taken out to help the story flow and make sense in a natural way. Sometimes something takes a while and we get bored or unsatisfied and by taking something away it gives the viewer less making it much more.
Nate also shared that there is a directors commentary which seems pretty standard nowadays too. But what he features with us was The Crowning of a New King, Warriors Within, and Hidden Kingdom Revealed. Each of these showed different levels of research, cast interviews, production design and visual effects. We were transported to different parts of Africa where they learned about culture and colors. They were able to include small things and big things that when all put together created the masterpiece of Black Panther that we all know and love.
The Warriors Within let us get to know all about Wakanda’s women. Wakanda is full of strong women and the actress’ performances were amazing. Now I wanted to share a little bit from the interview we had with Nate Moore:
Q. When you guys pick the features that you put on the DVD, what stands out or what do you decide, which stories you’re going to tell?
Nate……..That’s a good question. We kind of have a brainstorming session where people get to pitch out ideas of what they think is interesting and also what footage we have that we can show, you know. So, the typical ones like deleted scenes and gag reels, we know we’re going to do so we are collecting that footage all through production and postproduction. And then at the end of the day, once we kind of get a sense of what people are responding to sort of out in the world, we can kind of craft our features based on that. And this movie just happened to have a lot of really in-depth stuff because the building of Wakanda was so complicated. Unlike other films like Captain America, which I loved and worked on, but that world is a bit more familiar to audiences. So, there’s less to tell. We had a lot of stories to tell from this one.
Q. What is the reason some of the scenes are cut-out?
NATE …… Yeah, it typically is exactly what you pointed out, which is pace. So, our director’s cuts are always really long and it’s no secret. And, in a script, right, some things feel very necessary storytelling wise. When you watch the movie, things that you feel like need to be textural, actually work being inferred. As a for instance, there’s a great scene in the deleted scenes between Okoye and W’Kabi, and it’s after Killmonger has taken the throne and it’s there sort of differing points of view as to what side to take.
I have to tell you that you can also expect to see a fun gag reel. Here is a listing of other Black Panther Bonus Features you may find on your disc.
