Amazon Studios is gearing up to release Beautiful Boy, a powerful new film inspired by a true story about one family’s struggle with addiction. The film was based on memoirs by a father and his son: Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines by Nic Sheff, and its companion piece Beautiful Boy: A Father’s Journey Through His Son’s Addiction by David Sheff. The film will have its world premiere as a Gala Presentation at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival, and will come to theaters on October 12th, 2018. Watch the trailer below:
Both memoirs were New York Times bestsellers, and have received rave reviews for their look at both sides of addiction: The experience of the sufferer, as well as the perspective of their loved ones. A parent/child story is a very unique way to build compassion for both sides of this devastating disease, so it sounds like this will be a very compelling film – and it has a fantastic cast. Here’s more about Beautiful Boy:
Based on the best-selling pair of memoirs from father and son David and Nic Sheff, Beautiful Boy chronicles the heartbreaking and inspiring experience of survival, relapse, and recovery in a family coping with addiction over many years.
