Being a part of the Netflix Stream Team gives me an advance peek at what new shows are in the pipeline, and I’ve got news on a few titles to share with you today!
- New series Beat Bugs premieres on August 3rd and will bring Beatles songs to a new generation with kid-friendly covers by powerhouse stars like Aloe Blacc, Robbie Williams, Frances and The Lumineers and more. I grew up listening to The Beatles – I remember thinking that the White Album was all about food, partly because of the songs “Glass Onion” and “Savoy Truffle”, and partly 6-year-old-me misheard the lyrics of “I’m So Tired” and thought he was saying “Give you everything I’ve got, for a little piece of pie“. Anyway, I know this music will be just as special and impactful to today’s kids as it was to me, because The Beatles’ work is among the best music ever made!
- Also in the works from the creators of Beat Bugs is a similar concept for MoTown classics: “From the creators of Beat Bugs, the yet to be titled show will have a contemporary take on Motown classics. With Smokey Robinson advising as Executive Music Producer, the show will bring 52 Motown songs to life, including those made famous by Robinson, Marvin Gaye, The Jackson 5, Lionel Richie, The Supremes, The Temptations and Stevie Wonder.” Fun fact: I got my first record player when I was around 9 or 10 – it was plastic, and had Strawberry Shortcake on it – and some of the first records I played on it were by The Supremes!
- Preschool titles coming this year to Netflix include Kazoops, Ask The Storybots and Julie’s Greenroom – check out the clip above for a sneak peek.
- Finally, the much-anticipated Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life comes to Netflix on November 25!
Which of these shows are you most excited about?
