I love making cute party food. When I threw Jai’s 40th birthday party a few years ago, I made a “Sandwich bar” of PB&J, since that’s one of his favorite foods! I set out loaves of bread, jelly and peanut butter for guests to build their own, and I also used a small hors d’oeuvre maker that my dad had gotten me to create the world’s tiniest sandwiches. They were fun, but pretty time-consuming for a sandwich the size of my pinkie finger. 😉 So when I was presented with the chance to try the Five Minute Stackable Appetizer Maker from Architec, I knew this was right up my alley. Not only does this make much larger appetizers, but you can create a bigger batch at one time – which is important for a party!
This video gives you a good overview of how it works. It’s very simple: Just stack layers of whatever ingredients you want to use, and when it’s full, slice your appetizer between the slots on the side with the included spreader with serrated edge. Lift up the removable bottom tray, and poof! You’re done.
I tried this out last weekend while Jai and I were housesitting for his Grandma. I thought this would be a fun way to make some sandwiches up for lunch, since a friend was joining us to celebrate her birthday. I decided to make sandwiches using hazelnut bread, relish, pepperoni, cheddar cheese, and sliced tomato. I was going to add some of the Ranch dressing you see in the photo, but I dropped the container 2 minutes after I took this photo and had to take a break from my appetizers to mop Ranch dressing off the floor. Never a dull moment around here, I swear!
Once I finally had a chance to finish these, it was very simple. The hardest part was cutting the bread the right size to fit, and then I realized later that I could have used the tamper as a template for cutting the bread the right size.
The plastic spreader/knife worked well for cutting the appetizers, although they did mention that you may need to use a real knife depending on what ingredients you choose. The cut & carry base lifted easily and made it simple to transfer my finished sandwiches onto a plate.
As we head into autumn, there’s going to be a plethora of uses for this – from tailgating season to Thanksgiving! I think my next project will be layering cake and frosting in the Stackable Appetizer Maker – It’s going to make for some fun and pretty party snacks.
