Jai has been on an egg white kick recently – he loves buying cartons of egg whites and making healthy scrambles for breakfast. So when I received a shipment of All Natural IPS snacks in the mail, I said, “This is right up your alley: Chips made out of egg whites!” These puffed snacks are made from ingredients like egg white protein and rice, tapioca and corn flours. The name IPS stands for “Intelligent Protein Snacks”, hence the clever “Ch(ips)” moniker. Each bag has 7 grams of protein and is “Pressure Puffed” rather than fried; this new method of creating snacks is apparently their own invention!
These chips, or should I say ch(ips), come in the following flavors: Sea Salt & Black Pepper, Aged White Cheddar, Barbeque, and Cinnamon Sugar for those with a sweet tooth! I tried all four, and both Jai and I found them to be quite yummy. They have a texture similar to a rice cake or wafer – very light. You can taste the egg white most prominently in the Cinnamon Sugar variety, and a little less so in the others. It’s a rich flavor, and I liked the combination of seasonings they used in each variety of chips. I certainly enjoyed having these around, especially since they arrived right after a 5-day trip to Washington and there wasn’t much food in the house when we got home. Hello, chips for dinner! 😉
