Disney provided hotel and transportation for a ABCTVEvent day with interviews and screenings of new ABC TV shows that are coming out. Today’s line up is a huge roll out of some great comedies. One of those comedies being Rosanne, which will be discussed in my next blog post, and the other one being Splitting Up Together.
Splitting Up Together is a new ABC comedy about how sometimes marriage doesn’t work, but what is a family supposed to do? Do you split up completely or do what this couple is going? Splitting Up Together is especially funny because these two decided to raise the kids together by taking certain days inside the house and certain days outside the house but close enough where they can bother each other and be up in each other’s business. And in just two episodes I was hooked on Splitting Up Together. So you should tune in tonight, 9:30/10:00 PM EDT on ABC Television Network, streaming and on demand.
The New ABC Comedy Splitting Up Together Creator and Executive Producer Emily Kapnek said that it was very important to her to portray divorce with some hope and optimism. She wanted to tell a story that isn’t toxic and negative. She was able to use some stories from people she knew and I love what she came up with. She’s telling the story of a husband that hasn’t quite accepted maturity or rather, is just all about having fun with the kids on his nights and well the mom that has to clean up the mess. The mom is completely type A if you know what I mean.
The ABC new comedy Splitting Up Together Executive Producer Dean Holland also wanted to make sure that Splitting Up Together portrayed a healthy co-parenting. He said as they were filming so many people would come up to them and say we’re doing this. It’s about finding a way to make things work as two adults raising amazing kids together even when they are no longer in love.

Actor Oliver Hudson said that even though he isn’t divorced he can still relate to the show because it’s about two people coming together. Each person has a different background and they are able to have different ideas and “meet in the middle”. He also said that he is very much like his character.

“What I found actually, which was amazing casting, is Jenna is very much like who she is on this show, and I am very much like who I am on this show, you know. “
TUNE IN TONIGHT
“From executive producers Ellen DeGeneres, Emily Kapnek (“Suburgatory”), Jeff Kleeman (“Little Big Shots”) and Dean Holland (“Parks and Recreation”) comes “Splitting Up Together,” the story of Lena (Jenna Fischer, “The Office,”) and Martin (Oliver Hudson, “Scream Queens”), whose marriage is reignited by their divorce. The series premieres on TUESDAY, MARCH 27 (9:30-10:00 p.m. EDT), on The ABC Television Network, streaming and on demand.
Lena and Martin were once madly in love. But, like many marriages, time and circumstance eventually took their toll and the romance disappeared. Lena, the perfectionist, fell into the role of caretaker for everyone, including Martin. Martin felt he could never do anything right and gave up making the effort. Finding themselves in a platonic marriage and acting more like a pair of camp counselors wrangling their kids than a couple hopelessly in love, they decide that everyone’s lives would be better served if they got a divorce. Still wanting the best for their three kids and facing a daunting real estate market, the couple decides to “Bird Nest” instead. One parent will live in the house as the “on-duty” parent taking care of the kids, while the “off-duty”
parent will live in the detached garage, doing whatever he or she pleases while switching off every other week. Could being apart ultimately lead to them getting back together?
In the premiere episode, “Pilot,” after breaking the news to their friends and family about their divorce, Lena has to deal with her son Mason’s growing pains. Meanwhile, Martin, still feeling guilty about refusing to dance with Lena at their wedding, secretly tries to atone for his oversight and surprise his ex-wife with new moves.
“Splitting Up Together” stars Jenna Fischer as Lena, Oliver Hudson as Martin, Bobby Lee as Arthur, Lindsay Price as Camille, Olivia Keville as Mae, Van Crosby as Mason and Sander Thomas as Milo.
Guest starring are Geoff Pierson as Henry, Kelsey Asbille as Charlotte and Lucas Near-Verbrugghe as Dr. Kasper.
”Pilot” was written by Emily Kapnek, based on the Danish format by Mette Heeno and directed by Dean Holland. “
