DECEPTION – “Pilot”
We spent one day over at the Disney campus learning about new ABC series and one of those series was Deception. We watched the pilot episode of Deception a new hour long crime solving TV series. Cameron Black, Jack Cutmore-Scott, was a famous illusionist who might have met his match when a family member was wrongly accused of murder. He will be teaming up with Kay Daniels, Ilfenesh Hadera an FBI agent who has spent her entire career chasing one criminal. Together they will solve crimes, although, I have a feeling more time is going to be spent with Cameron trying to find the person that is behind his family member being imprisoned. There has to be some kind of twist otherwise Deceptions is just like all the other crime solving shows out there. It’s going to be one Deception after another.
I will admit, I liked the Deception pilot and want to know more about this other illusionist. I’ve always had a fascination with magic and what doesn’t meet the eye. I love the Deception of the slight of hand, it amazes me.
In addition to sitting through the Pilot episode of Deception we watched David Kwong’s amazing illusions. David Kwong took a dollar, had someone draw a dinosaur on it then made it disappear, at the end of his show he revealed that it was in the orange all along. Not only that he also took three different words, and added up their scrabble scores to reveal the serial number on that very same dollar bill. I mean, David is obviously a highly intelligent individual.
Why did we get to spend time with David Kwong? David Kwong consults on Deception. Remember, a good TV show is only as good as the research behind it and that is something I think Disney/ABC excels at.
Deception creator, Chris Fedak said what he loves about this show is that it’s about a team. It’s not just a show about magic, or a show about solving crimes.
And then the more I thought about it, the more I thought about the fact that if you’re a magician or if you’re an illusionist like Copperfield or David Blaine, it’s like you have a team, and I love shows about teams and I love shows about teams because they’re shows about family, in a way. And so for me that was a great opportunity to kind of think about like I hadn’t seen a show about a group of people putting together deceptions like this, and I thought that could be cool. And then the other part of it that I liked is that I thought, this is Magician Impossible. What we’re going to be doing every week is essentially an action show with mystery and deceptions and all that cool stuff.
