A Guest post I’m not ready for. Are you?
Becoming a Man
The transition from childhood to adulthood is a combination of small and big steps, such as getting a car and learning other adult responsibilities. Gifts for a male teenager making this transition should reflect the value and importance of manhood. Here are gift ideas for a male teenager in your life who is taking steps to become a man.
Wardrobe
As a child, he may have balked at wearing formal clothing, but as an adult, he will understand their value. For an older teen about to step out into the world, a well-tailored suit makes a wonderful gift. It may give him some peace of mind knowing he will have at least one thing to wear for a formal occasion.
In addition to the suit, consider buying him extra dress shirts, dress socks and ties. Monogrammed tie bars, cuff links, and a leather wallet are also ideas to keep in mind.
Grooming
A proper shaving kit, with quality shaving cream, shaving brush and razor, is a practical gift for just about any older teen on the cusp of manhood. If he has never used a shaving brush, show him how, or direct him to an instructional video on the internet – there are many.
Create a gift basket containing men’s grooming supplies. Include men’s body lotion, hand cream, shower gel, hairbrushes, combs, fingernail clippers and cuticle cutters.
Auto Safety
Put together an emergency kit for his car or buy a pre-made kit. The kit should include a gas can, a tire gauge, a jack, a lug wrench, jumper cables, a flashlight, a first aid kit, an ice scraper, and an emergency blanket. Place all items in a backpack or duffel bag so he can easily store it in the trunk.
Home
A toolbox containing a set of tools is a great gift for young men about to set out on their own. Include at minimum, a hammer, screwdrivers, adjustable wrenches, nails and screws. For a more complete set, add a power drill, drill bits, and a socket set.
If the young man in question is a close relative or friend and you are sure he will not be offended, get him a book on etiquette. Learning how to tip, which fork to use and other social skills will help him remain comfortable in formal settings. If he will be traveling abroad for study or employment, give him a book on international culture and travel.
An auto safety kit is a great idea for everyone.
The grandson we are raising will be 10 next month. I want him to stop right now! I don’t even want to think about going through the teenage years yet!
I forgot to add that this photo of Myles is absolutely adorable 🙂
