I’ve been doing a ton of freezer cooking this week, so I’ve been bustling around the kitchen washing load after load of dishes. I’m overly-fastidious when it comes to cleaning and prepping food, so my hands are in water constantly when I cook. As a result, my already-dry hands start to crack. Between that and the fact that my nails are always run down from typing, I’d say my hands are probably one of the worst-looking parts of me!
So it was a treat when I got a bottle of Palmolive with some matching nail polish. This new variety, Soft Touch, is made with aloe with the aim of being less drying to hands, so they packaged it nail polish inspired by the soap so that you could treat yourself to a little manicure.
That may seem like an unexpected combo to some, but it made total sense to me. I collect old magazines, and who could forget those ads in the 1950s where a couple of ladies are sitting around getting a manicure and one of them is shocked when she finds out her friend is using Palmolive as a beauty treatment. “MADGE! You soak your hands in dish soap?!” 😉
It was kind of nice getting to sit down and actually take the time to file my poor neglected nails and put on a fun coat of polish. It was so fitting that they sent me pink soap and pink polish, because it’s my favorite color – as you might have gathered from the pink paint on my walls!
I’ll never win any awards for “Best manicure”, but it was a big improvement and I’m enjoying having nice nails for a few days before it all chips off on my keyboard!
I was very happy to have a new bottle of dish soap, since I use so much of it. I wouldn’t say I’d use this as a hand treatment, because any soap or just water in general strips my hands of moisture, but when I have to do dishes it doesn’t hurt to have an option with aloe, right? Although I am so lucky to finally have a dishwasher – YEAH!! – there are still those occasional pots and pans that are too stubborn and need to be scrubbed out by hand. I used this to clean out some casserole dishes and frying pans left over from the cooking blitz, and the soap smelled good and about as moisturizing as soap can get for me, really.
