6 Free Vtech V.Reader Books

August 25, 2010 by Momstart 92 Comments

VTech is offering six free e-books worth 30.00 for you to download for the V.Reader. First you need to download the Learning Lodge Navigator.

V.Reader_thumbDownload

Run the setup file

Then Start the Program

(I wasn’t able to actually get the program to run, some kind of incompatibility with my computer and the beta, but they are currently trying to help me though it) I hope that some of you are able to run the program and from within the program you should be able to download the free books. Also, if you have questions ask me and I’ll ask them!

VTech’s Learning Lodge offers free downloadable books, games, customized themes and avatars. Additionally, Learning Lodge allows you to track your children’s achievement through a customized Progress Log which provides an overview of how your child is progressing through key learning curriculum, all of which are age-appropriate.

What would you like to see offered from VTech? Ideas, suggestions, regarding the v.reader?

Oddly enough I never saw where you could get the free downloads. I did see several downloads for 4.99 each.

When you download the vreader you can select the games that are 2.99 and 4.99 or use your v coins. You have 6 vcoins in the top right hand corner of your “cart”. Just select the game and it deducts from your coins making up to 6 games free.

I take it you downloaded and installed the program, then you registered and opened a new account. When you do that you automatically get 6 coins. When you go to the down load center you will see the stories and YES there are the prices and next to the prices it says ” or 1 coin” push on the coin button and you are done.
      Hope that helps

You should have automatically gotten the six coins to spend. The conins are only good on the games that are 2.99 not the 4.99 ones.

Just add a game that is 2.99 to your cart and you will notice at the bottom that it is free. They will take the cost off at the checkout.

Hope this helps and works for you.

Anyways, It’s a neat item IF the instructions were TRUE! So they tell us to go to this website & download our *FREE* books….WHATEVER! Nothing is free! They are all at a cost! So, tell me please..Mom 2 Mom…how do I get these *FREE* books for my baby so that she won’t be disappointed on Christmas?? Since V.Tech simply do NOT know how to tell us the truth, I guess that we have to depend on each othe for instructions on their products! Thanks V.Tech! For Nothing!

I admit the software is a little confusing but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out how to use the coins. My son is four and he can use the VReader just fine. Why don’t you just give it to your kid and go back to watching Fox News.

Gee Ken, if you can’t say something constructive perhaps you should stay on your blog.

        In response to questions:
Upon downloading the initial learning lodge software to your computer, make sure you restart your computer. Although not always prompted to do so, my vreader device would not recognize SD card or apply vCoins to account till I did this twice.

vCoins can be concealed in the vTech web interface till you spot them, then they jump out at you. Try adding a title to your cart and then going to checkout. Nothing will be charged to your account till you confirm and if you haven;t entered credit card info you have no need to worry. Your eCoins should kick-in at checkout.

Finally, yes vTech has a long way to go on their documentation and instructional design. Great product, decent though limited content. No documentation on certificates which my son keeps asking about.

Hope this helps, I need to get back to watching Fox news. If people do not watch enough of it they tend to become unproductive, elitest snobs.

LOL on Ken Imagery, I’m sure you’re spot on.

glad reboot info helped; Since the last posting they have also released an updated learning lodge. When you open the web-app Learning lodge it notifies you of an update.

After updating I once again had to reboot in order to have it recognize SD Card.
I remembered that the reason I had to do it twice the first time (original post) is that I had not turned vReader off when rebooting. It should not matter but it worked. This time, after update, turned off reader and single PC reboot did the trick.

Also, Certificates now available as icon on Learning lodge interface. They just magically appear upon completion of stories or certain # of questions answered correctly so you just need to keep plugging in device and checking back, nothing on vReader itself says, “Good Job – You Earned a Certificate”. That would be cool.

Final thought. All of the sudden after a drive my son told me the backpack was empty. Turns out the SD card had slid out of slot a little from vReader getting bumped or whatever. It is a sloppy fit (no catch/release mechanism like all cameras and other items have). So if you all of the sudden have problems just open battery hatch and re-seat SD card in slot.

Have fun all. My son LOVES this thing!!!

It’s best to go through the Learning Lodge Navigator while it’s running; connect the vreader to your computer; after the connection has been verified, click on your child’s vreader…this will open menu boxes on the left side of the monitor and you can navigate as necessary. Click on the E-book Download Center…and voila!

Anjee Dennis Perhaps you should relearn the English language, the directions were very easy to follow. My two year old can operate the unit all on her own. Maybe you should properly read the instructions and follow them before you go online and bash a company for your own shortfalls. By the way i got all of my free downloads and you put them on a sd memory card. The vreader really is an awesome product and i recommend it to every parent.

Any standard SD card will work – I had a spare for my camera. You can buy them just about anywhere – Futureshop, Bestbuy, any photography store. Each book appears to be about 10 Mb so a 2Gb card would be more than adaquate and they sell for under $15 CDN.

There IS hope! I was a skeptic, but a little persistence paid off! I had a little trouble at first, but after getting to the “downloadable books” page it moved PRETTY smootly. We had credit for six downloadable books. (This came with the purchase of the vreader.) The six credits are represented by six “coins”. I chose six books that had showed they could be purchased for 1 coin each and simply added them to the cart one at a time. After all six were in the cart I clicked to complete the purchase and it gave me a pop up message that said to connect to the vreader. Even though I WAS connected I had to turn it off and back on again. I clicked the “transfer” button and it only took about 4 or 5 minutes to transfer to the vreader and they work perfectly! (It never hurts to add a little luck to the equation as well!)

This was my problem too. I was mildly frustrated because I couldn’t find the SD card slot so I inserted the card in the slot on my PC tower like a moron all last night (while my dad whom we live with stood by urging me to get my son in bed) so I finally gave up until this morning when I googled “where does SD card go in VReader” and found this thread! THANK YOU! But yeah, I had the same issue when I tried to transfer it said SD card not found, so I clicked disconnect from the screen on the vreader (I read all the online instructions last night including the info about updating the firmware and it warned us several times NOT to turn the vreader off while updating, or risk corrupting it’s files so I didn’t want to take any chances, LOL!) and THEN I disconnected it and turned it off, re-connected and re-started it and then transfered all 6 free downloads. I actually think it was *fate* because last night my so and I chose 4 free ones with his coins and I kept aside 2 coins for later and then this morning there were two new stories so after all that trouble I just went ahead and purchased the two new books, one of which is his current favorite story for me to “tell” so I knew he would love it.

for first time users, the vtech learning lodge software “gifts” you 6 vtech coins for installing it and setting up an account, and you can only get more if vtech gives them to you as a reward for something.

as for the books, at the time of this writing, there are at least 20 available for download, but you can’t load them on the reader without a sd memory card in the device. regularly $9.99, on sale for $4.99, but the 4 sesame street titles are cash only.

any word on the largest available sd card the reader will take?

and i do reccomend using the learning lodge to update the reader, if anything you get a faster power on time. 🙂

ok so how do you get the reader to even connect with the computer…. the one we bought for our Grand Daughter has been “transfering” for about 40 minutes now. Getting kind of frustrated when you pay that much for a toy to help them read, it might have been easier to just buy a book, and would have cost alot less.

I had no problems registering, and getting my free 6 coins although I was pretty skeptical since I purchased this for my daughter for Christmas LAST year, and forgot all about the online gaming aspects. Im sure you can understand why I thought I pretty much screwed myself out of the deal-we didnt keep the BOX! LOL I didnt need to, I guess because her e-reader wasnt registered before? Either way…anyone have any problems actually ADDING to their cart??? I immeadiately saw a couple books for her and the ‘add to cart’ button wont highlight or anything. I can click on details, but not add to my cart 🙁 Any suggestions?

I’m happy for all of you that got the 6 free downloads. My grandkids only got 3 free downloads with their V.Tech readers. It also took forever to register it correctly. The company does not make it easy to access the site you need to get started, but once you figure out which site to click on, it wasn’t to bad.

Hey… I see that the last post was over a year ago but was hoping someone was still out there 🙂
I guess the V.Reader is a little different now… Had a problem with my 512MB SD Card switched it to a 32MD Micro SD card in an Adapter and it was recognized by the Learning lodge. Transfers went through fine and screen prompts me to disconnect USB and then press “backpack.” Every time I push “backpack” all the icons disappear and then return. When I unplug the SD Card and press “backpack” it says “There are no items in your backpack”
Any ideas? Also tried with my 2GB Micro SD Card but Learning Lodge says “No SD Card Found”

I have everything up and running, downloaded, bought an ebook, got the free ones, sd card in! Now it keeps saying ‘error in transfer’. My sd card is 1gb. It appears there’s plenty of space as it shows me what remains after selecting a book for transfer. Anyone have any answers for me?? oh, I have a mac and after every try the screen leaves vtech and boots up iphoto. very frustrated. Thanks in advance for any help:)

Thanks so much for sharing this, was very excited picking out my 6 free stories only to realize I could not. Unfortunately, I do not have an SD memory card so I was unable to download any . So now will try and find an SD card for the system and retry. This is a very good deal they offer.
