Trying to purchase an all new wardrobe when you are getting tired of your old one can cost quite a bit of money. Maybe you like some parts of your wardrobe, but you are just tired of wearing the same things day in and day out. Or maybe you want to improve your fashion for a new job or for turning over a new leaf in life. Instead of dropping a large amount of cash getting everything new, you should aim to add just a few things to spice it up a bit. Try these items to make your wardrobe POP:
1. Statement Shoes
Even if your wardrobe is all black or basics, a great pair of bold and unique statement shoes can really spice it up. Whether you want heels or flats, a funky pattern or a pop of color will take you to the next level. A lot of people shy away from shoes with a pattern – but they can be a lot of fun! Make sure the rest of your outfit is simple, tie your accessories into the shoes, and rock them!
2. Colored Blazers
Blazers are a little stuffy at times, but a great colored blazer can really take you to the next level. Aim for something in a color that goes with almost everything – like a blue or a red. Blazers are perfect for almost every season – they can keep you warm in winter and those days when the air conditioning gets little too chilly. There’s something fun, formal and striking about boldly colored blazers, that you don’t see every day.
3. High Shafted Boots
Boots make everything from leggings to skirts look better and stand out. The higher the boot, the more real estate you have for making an impact on your wardrobe. Aim for a pair of boots that is high quality, well-constructed and comfortable, because you will want to wear them with almost everything and they’ll last you for years to come. These might not be the flashiest item on the list, but they are a great way to make a statement without screaming it.
4. (A Little) Glitter
Adding some sparkle to your wardrobe is a surefire way to make a statement. Whether you get a blazer with glitter additions or you get a great pair of statement earrings, a little glitter never hurt anyone. Just make sure that you limit your glitter to a few pieces or a few places or you will look like you are ready to go to the disco. If you don’t feel comfortable wearing glitter, try some on your shoes or bag!
5. Pops of Color
We’ve already talked about this with other pieces, but pops of color can really make your wardrobe well, pop! Match a funky neon belt to your neon nails, or match bold red shoes with a blazing red clutch for a cohesive, classic look. Try to limit the pop of color to just a few places, or you will overwhelm your outfit. Stick to neutrals if you try a neon look so that they are based.
6. Motorcycle Jackets
Whether you’ve always lusted over Michael Jackson’s red moto jacket from the Thriller video or you just want a great textured leather jacket in black, moto jackets are a great way to add a new element that many of us don’t have. This is another item where you’ll want to think about spending a bit more money on, as they won’t ever really go “out” of style and they last for years. If you are feeling daring, go for one with some extra straps or embellishments, to give you that extra bite.
7. Bold Bags
Bold bags are a great way to get a pop without actually wearing it. Collect bags that aren’t all that expensive, but add a unique or interesting look to your wardrobe. Choose some bags that are out of your comfort zone and pair them with simple outfits for that pop of color we talked about or just to add another texture to your look.
8. Color Blocking
Many people don’t understand what color blocking is, but it is really simple. All you have to do is know your color wheel and understand what colors would work well together. Then, block them off. Wear a great fitting pair of blue pants with shoes that match and a flowy red top that you tuck in with a red scarf. Your colors shouldn’t mix – your top half is red, your bottom half is blue. Picking up just a few pieces that go with what you already have in your wardrobe will help take it to that next level.
9. Chic Sunglasses
Sunglasses are absolutely imperative not only for your health, but also for your style. Great sunglasses in classic shapes like wayfarers, circles, ovals, or squares add an element of mystery. Having a large selection will help you always feel put together, even if you don’t have time to put on make-up in the morning!
10. Bright & White
White is a color that a lot of people shy away from because we tend to be a little messy and all you need is one spill on white and it is a lost cause. Well, invest in a good dry cleaner and find some whites that you really love, because white is one of the best ways to make your wardrobe pop. Get a high quality button down white shirt or a killer bold white skirt that will immediately breathe life into almost everything in your wardrobe.
