clip_image006SKYLER DAY (Sarah Miller)

Skyler Day was born in Atlanta, GA in 1991. Her start in the Entertainment Industry began after meeting a talent agent in the DMV at the age of 6. She began her career with print work, commercials, and voice over’s, eventually leading to her first film debut. At the age of 10 Skyler made a deal with her parents, if she was cast the lead in a film by her 11th birthday they would move to California so she could pursue her acting career. She missed her goal by about two weeks but ended up being cast a lead role in, “The Adventures of Ociee Nash!” Skyler’s dream came true and her family relocated to California in 2004.

Music has been a major part of Skyler’s life. At 10 years old, she wrote and recorded her first song, “Grandaddy’s Love.” Since then, she has taken up guitar and has written numerous songs. clip_image008DREW KOLES (Kevin Miller)

The son of a Canadian father and American mother, Drew was born in Sacramento, California where he lived until the age of four. In 2000, his father moved the family to British Columbia, Canada where he received his Canadian citizenship before returning to California in 2006.

The youngest of three children and an only son, Drew has always been known for his natural wit and easygoing charm. Happy by nature, never shy, he loves making people laugh and is always entertaining those around him. Growing up, Drew took part in school skits and drama performances. He was a favorite with his teachers, especially his choir teacher.

At age eleven, just after returning to California, Drew told his mother he wanted to be an actor and make movies. His favorite actor at the time was Hayden Christensen and he had watched the Star Wars movies over and over so many times that he could quote whole passages of dialogue. He started taking an acting class but soon after told his mother it was boring. However, it didn’t change his mind about wanting to be an actor.

Later he asked to attend an event where he performed a monologue from Huckleberry Finn for numerous talent agents and managers. He was an obvious favorite and shortly following the event, Drew signed with a Los Angeles talent agency and a manager. With the support of his family, it wasn’t long before he was living in LA and pursuing his dream full time.

And like a dream come true, Drew consistently meets every goal he sets for himself. From starring in his first student film, to booking a lead role in his first feature film, he continues to reach higher as his dreams get bigger. Some of Drew’s 2011 goals are to book a feature film and a series regular role. He also noted he would like to work with Joseph Gordon Levitt, Andrew Garfield, Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott someday in the future.

I received information and a viewing kit and DVD from P&G in exchange for posting this material.

Field of Vision Video Camera

Have you ever seen the footage from the old Charlie Chaplin Movie where people speculate that the person in the background of the movie is a time traveler with a cell phone. It’s really creepy footage of someone walking behind the action and they look like they are talking on something up to their ear. The camera caught it….

That’s what Field of Vision reminds me of except it’s not creepy at all.

imageThrough mysterious footage captured on an old malfunctioning video camera, Sinclair High School’s star quarterback, Tyler McFarland, learns that some of his teammates have been bullying Cory Walker, a troubled new transfer student.  Aware that sharing this information with the coach might get his friends kicked off the team and ultimately cost the school the state championship, Tyler must choose what’s more important: winning or doing what’s right. As these events unfold, the camera also reveals more surprising footage to Tyler’s kid sister Lucy, as she learns that Cory has a secret past, unknown even to him. Now Lucy must convince her mom (Faith Ford, Murphy Brown) and family that the camera’s revealing insight is not a product of her imagination as she enlists their help to find the answers Cory so desperately needs.

The newest installment from Procter & Gamble and Walmart’s Family Movie night initiative is bringing quality entertainment back to the television. Field of Vision is a teenage football movie safe for the whole family keeping out the locker room scenes and the focus of the movie is on Cory Walker and his needs and not all of the teenage angst that usually goes along with football movies. Blogger Giveaway Kit3

Be sure to watch Field of Vision on Saturday June 11th at 8/7c on NBC

This giveaway has ended. Congratulations to Tina M.

Which Photo Is the Best Picnic Photo?

I’m going to enter another photo contest on Facebook and I’m not sure which photo to pick. I wasn’t given any rules other than to use the supplies that were sent to me on behalf of Walmart and Better Homes and Gardens. So with kids or without? With Food or without?

I also have to let you know that it’s been raining cats and dogs for two weeks so we had to have our picnic indoors.

I Have the Shoes, Now Which Dress Should I Wear?

Just a reminder, I’m attending a Disney Press Junket for the red carpet premier of Gnomeo and Juliet with Elton John and 14 other bloggers.

We have three days of events and the dress code is

Friday, 1/21 – Casual attire.

Saturday, 1/22 – “Nice” casual attire.

Sunday, 1/23 – “Nice” attire (the actual red carpet event which is an afternoon premier so we were told to leave the ball gowns at home, but since I never get to dress up I’m tempted to wear one anyways)

And I need your help still! I have no idea about Fashion, so Fashion for a fancy press event I’m completely lost.

I can’t thank you all enough for helping me to choose a pair of shoes. So with the dress from Karen Millen you all said heels or boots with a heal. So How about these boots?

Mia Boots with Heel

My Coffee Mate Addiction

IMG_7354It has been brought to my attention that Yes, I have a Coffee-Mate addiction. Yes, I love coffee, but it’s only good when it’s been doused with Coffee-Mate.

I would even go so far as to say that, I have a little coffee with my coffee mate creamer.

These photos of Coffee-mate that you see here are in my fridge. All at the same time!!!

My husband and I love to try different flavors, we’ve tried so many different flavors and have our favorites narrowed down, but we still try a new flavor every time they come out with one.

IMG_7355I have French Vanilla to use on tea, and chocolate donut flavored k-cups.

The holiday flavors are always a great treat, but what we really loved about this year was that Coffee-Mate made Peppermint Mocha a year long treat. We’ve been using peppermint mocha all year round. In addition to Peppermint Mocha creamer like the eggnog flavored creamer, the sugar and spice flavored creamer, and anything with caramel.

Now that the holidays flavors are out, we stocked up on Gingerbread Coffee-Mate at Walmart for 1.50 each. That’s an excellent price. Another way that I like to save on Coffee-Mate creamer is that if you sign up on their website, you can usually download two coupons every three months to save 1.00 to 1.50 on your purchase of one coffee-mate creamer product.

IMG_7356As part of my addiction, I’ve tried all of the Coffee-Mate Holiday Flavors, and all of the Coffee-Mate Café Flavors we’ve even used coffee-mate creamer to make flavored pancakes. It’s so easy and delicious, just substitute the milk for creamer. Yum! You can’t go wrong with Coffee-Mate.

And Yeah, I do really have a coffee-mate creamer addiction.

BYOCM Bring Your Own Coffee Mug

Remember a few months ago when I shared my fresh idea at the Walmart booth at BlogHer? Well, I got my idea from My MOMS Club, one of the members was making her own coffee sleeves in craft club, so I asked my sister-in-law to make me some and she gave them to me as a Christmas gift. So since the idea originally came from MOMS Club, it’s fitting that Summer is revisiting the home made coffee sleeve idea as a green holiday tip and where you can buy one if you don’t know anyone crafty!

Big environmental changes can come in little packages; small enough to fit right into those stockings! I live in the Seattle area and there is literally a coffee shop on every corner! In stockings every years we end up giving someone (usually the grandparents) a coffee related item. On Black Friday I bought myself the “Non Paper Cup Mug” from Cost Plus World Market; this particular mug is ceramic with a silicon grip and fitted silicon lid. The mug looks like your favorite coffee shop’s cups. I like these mugs because they are REAL MUGS with a spill proof top for easy travel whether in the car or around the office. These cups are microwave and dishwasher safe – both are a bonus in my book! Think of all the paper cups, heat shields, and plastic lids you’re saving from becoming trash. Also think of all the hand washed dishes your saving yourself (bonus fact: did you know that hand washing dishes uses more water than using your dishwashing machine).

In store you can buy a single mug for about $8 and online you have to purchase a double pack for $16-$20 depending on the pattern you choose.
Though these mugs make great companions in the car, but your BFF won’t be carrying this cup in her purse since they are ceramic like at-home mugs. Never fear, in my very own purse I have the stocking stuffer solution for that too, a cloth sleeve. You can also have your kids make home made coffee sleeves for their teachers and the grandparents out of crafting scraps you may have around the house.

About Summer:

Summer is the President of our Local MOMS Club chapter, she is the mother of two adorable active boys, and is always thinking of ways to help others. She is a friend, a wife, and always busy as all mommies are. She is very active on Facebook, addicted to Geocaching and very interested in organic and green living.

Be Close to Kids Even When You are Far Away Operation Record a Story

We recently received two copies of Twas the Night Before Christmas Record a Story from Publications International. Record a Story offers a unique and affordable solution for families to stay connected and “be together” at story time, even when distance keeps them apart.  Record A Story is available in 4 different titles for $19.99 at local Toys R Us, Walmart, Borders and Barnes & Noble nationwide, and at http://record-a-story.com/.  The books also engage kids in reading in a whole new way, and it is highly appealing to kids because they can record their own voices reading the story.  This motivates kids to be enthusiastic about reading and encourages them at an early age to develop a life-long love of books. I know it’s true because Zoe and Miles both want to keep the book and I’m supposed to be giving one of the two books away as a giveaway here on Mom Start.

clip_image001I also thought you might be interested to learn about a new program called Operation Record a Story, which launched on Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11, 2010.  Publications International {PIL’s} Record a Story books are currently being recorded by servicemen and servicewomen at USO locations in the United States, Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait.  After the book captures the service member’s voice reading the story out loud, it will be sent, together with a video of the parent recording the story, to their kids in time for the holidays.

“We are extremely excited to introduce this creative and affordable product that is a heartwarming gift for young kids who love story time, and can now hear their favorite stories brought to life by parents or other loved ones,” said Mike Sieczkowski, Executive Vice President of Sales at PIL.  “In addition, Record a Story is highly appealing to kids because they can also record their own voices reading the story.  This motivates kids to be enthusiastic about reading and encourages them at an early age to develop a life-long love of books.  In this way, Record a Story is the perfect addition to the PIL family of products.”

clip_image001[4]

So far, my kids are loving Record a Story. I recorded my own voice as the reader of the book, and Zoe likes to listen to a page and then repeat all of what she just heard. She’s always loved looking at books and now just by opening a page she can listen to mommy read it no matter what I’m doing and then read it aloud to herself. The only problem we’ve been having with these books as that sometimes you have to keep the page very still, and open just right for it to read the entire page. It likes to stop and start as kids squirm with the book in their hands.

Record a Story will launch with four titles:
· ’Twas the Night Before Christmas – The classic holiday story;
· Guess How Much I Miss You – An original story with a rhyming narrative about missing a loved one who is far away;
· Sesame Street: Together at Heart – A story from Elmo about special things that make loved ones feel close when they can’t be together; and
· Dora the Explorer – The popular Nickelodeon character and her friends reminisce about some of their favorite adventures.  This title is available exclusively at Toys“R”Us and Toysrus.com

Each Record a Story consists of seven illustrated spreads on sturdy pages, as well as a deluxe padded cover with embossed and foiled details that truly elevate the product to keepsake status.  Perfect for lap-time, each landscape-format book is 10 inches by 8 inches. The storybook’s recording function operates on three AAA batteries (included with purchase) and will not be erased when the batteries are replaced.
