Mom’s A Hero $2500 Allstate Cash Giveaway #heroicmom

Thinking about my mom makes me realize, I never truly appreciated how much of a hero she was until I had children of my own. Mom’s do everything and once you have children you realize how BIG everything is and I have to mention, I’m lucky enough to have two mom heroes. One mother gave birth to me, raised me for about five years and then I spent time with her on weekends and during the summer time. The other mother took on part time duties which were not part time at all because I lived with her and my dad for about seven year. You see, being a step mom has to be even more challenging at time because it’s hard to fit into each other’s lives. That’s one reason why I can’t pick just one hero, I have two.

One of my moms taught me how to cook and have fun, while the other taught me about responsibility and strength. When my daughter was born, my stepmom flew out to help out with the baby. Holy cow having children is hard work.

 

She cooked, she cleaned, she took care of Zoe so I could sleep and get used to being a new mom. She was my hero just for letting me sleep.

Remembering back to when I was a kid…

I had to be told to clean my room, brush my teeth, don’t hit my sister, play with my sister, do my homework, go play outside. I was told that I would ask question after question and that it drove my parents crazy. But through it all my mother (both of them equally) turned me into the strong independent mother that I am today.

My mom came out when my second child was born and again I was reminded how I want to be a great mom for my children. I want to teach Zoe and Miles everything they need to be great parents and loving adults. I want to make them feel like I felt, loved, secure, and safe.

Recyclebank Challenge 2 Green Up The First Day Of School Tips

Miles and Zoe have their first day of School on Wednesday. Miles, it’s his official first day and I just don’t know what to do. Am I supposed to be happy about it, or sad. I’m both! I’m quite sad about him leaving, as he describes it, I won’t have anyone to play with, read to, sing with, or watch TV with. But I’ll have time to work uninterrupted which I hear is SO VALUABLE. Now thinking about it from a green point of view. What can I do to green the first day of school. I have a few days to prepare and I do still need to find back to school clothes.

Recyclebank is here to help us figure out ways to green our school year. One way is to chose products with fabrics that are green. As part of the Green Your School Year Challenge going on they are offering tips in the form of a game where you can earn entry points to win really fun prizes. The first step was to download a guide that provided lots of information on choosing green fabrics. I found it so interested I wanted to share a few of the tips.

Choose Organic fabrics in clothing and backpacks:

The rest of the challenge for this week is more like the first challenge. You can take quizzes and find out how knowledgeable you are on being green. We need to switch from plastic baggies to those cute reusable washable sandwich bags that my friend makes. She makes them in such cute patterns. Basically, you sandwich bag can be any material you can find in the store.

Recyclebank’s Green Your School Year Challenge: Step One Back-to-school Shopping

Have you done your back to school shopping yet, are your kids back in school yet? Mine won’t be going back until after Labor Day. That’s just how we swing on the West Coast, or at least in the Pacific Northwest. So we haven’t even thought about getting back to school supplies, but I do suppose that it is time to get into that frame of mind. Both of my children will be in preschool next year, so I’m going to need to be ready for lunches and afternoon snacks. If you know me, I work really hard to feed my children healthy and what better way than to use organic food.

Green Your School Year was designed to educate and motivate families like us to make more eco-friendly school year decisions.  You’re invited to join me and participate too. Then from there you can also download some valuable tips on how to find out if products you are buying are environmentally sustainable. Check company websites to read their environmental sustainability policies prior to shopping, and make sure that the places you shop support the same environmental initiatives that you do. Get the checklist in order to learn what to look for. Then continue on throughout the day and keep earning points. take a few quizzes. Consider your electronics, do you recycle them? Dispose of Batteries Properly, Sell Used Electronics and Find ways to properly dispose of electronics. These are just a few ideas we’ve written about before. Then you can take more polls and quizzes, while learning all about everything you need for back to school.

Back To School Shoes Crocs Sneak Summer Into School Sweepstakes

Crocs are stinking awesome. I love shoes that you can bend in half because they are more comfortable. They are easier to walk in and they are more natural for developing feet that children have. Experts say that letting you children go barefoot is best, but I’m sorry, I won’t allow my kids to go outside without shoes on. Call me crazy, cause I know I am. So I love FLEXIBLE Shoes and these CROCS are amazing.

Remember when you were a kid and you got a new pair of shoes? At least for me it was so much fun to get new shoes. I always thought they made me run faster and jump higher. And here, Zoe is showing me the same excitement with her new Back To School Crocs.

Enjoy Speed! Try Verizon 4G LTE Community and Win

I received a new phone at Blogher this year, no it wasn’t from Verizon, it was from HTC, and I gave it to my husband. That was before I realized what I had in my hands. The phone I gave him is a 4G LTE phone and when I took my turn at playing with it, I was blown away with how fast it was. And wishing I kept it for myself.

On his 4G LTE phone, My husband can stream MP3’s from his Amazon Cloud player and we spent some time going through the MomStart Youtube channel looking at older videos of the kids. I’m quite impressed with the speed everything loads at. Do you even understand what 4G LTE is?
