Sara Lee and Wizards of Waverly Place Whole Grain Magic Sweepstakes and #giveaway

My family likes to eat Sara Lee Soft and Smooth, we’re still using the free product coupons that we received from the Sara Lee Nutrition Summit but I can see us using these in the future too. They make great snacks and lunches for two growing kids.

Sara Lee is working with Disney on a charity contest (my favorite kind to support) that would allow one winner to go with Jake T. Austin and David Henrie of the Wizards of Waverly Place as they donate 25,000 loaves to a food bank in the winner’s hometown.  The winner will also get a viewing party of Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place the Movie Extended Edition with David and Jake, which releases on DVD on December 15.

All the info you need is on specially-marked packages of Sara Lee Soft & Smooth bread, buns and new mini bagels products and www.Disney.com/wholegrainmagic. You can also watch the video below for more information.

To help inspire you to enter the larger contest we have a mini giveaway on Mom Start. Sara Lee is providing 10 coupons for free bakery products. These coupons are worth about 5.00 each so I’m going to divide them between two winners 25.00 each.

“Mama Saga” Metacafe channel.

.

Sara Lee Deli has launched a social media campaign designed to connect with and help moms through typical, everyday dramas they face at home and hopefully to add a little humor to your day.

The Sara Lee Deli “Mama Saga” campaign highlights the challenges of parenting through a series of satirical webcam “confessional” videos that ask “How would you handle this Mama Saga?”

Sara Lee Deli is hoping that this new on-line community will reach out to moms and incorporate their new deli meats.

The videos were created in conjunction with Second City Communications, the business services arm of the world-famous Second City Theater, and include such events as dealing with the worst day of the year and preparing a husband to watch the kids. The three improvisational videos were performed by mom-actresses to highlight a day in the lives of three very different parents.
“We understand the importance of creating new opportunities to speak with moms one-on-one, and we know the most immediate and engaging way to do this is online, where today’s moms are communicating,” said Paula Shikany, senior brand manager, Sara Lee Deli.  “The ‘Mama Saga’ campaign is designed to first provide mom with a daily laugh and then engage her in ongoing dialogue so we can be a better resource. Overall we want the ‘Mama Sagas’ to act as a conversation starter while building brand awareness to drive moms to Sara Lee Fresh Ideas pre-sliced deli meats which are located in the self-serve deli section of grocery stores.”
“Second City Communications specializes in connecting people with brands through the humor of everyday life — and great material is really funny when it’s true and connected authentically to real life,” said Tom Yorton, president and chief operating officer, Second City Communications.  “We worked with Sara Lee Deli to create video portrayals of non-typical moms dealing with typical situations that every mom can relate to so that she can share her thoughts in a social media environment.”

I also have another bread giveaway.

I have a set of five coupons (valued up to 5.00) to giveaway to two random readers.

Sara Lee Whole Grain Bread September #Giveaway

Following me for very long?

Last month I went to Visit Sara Lee at their Nutrition Summit. I learned a lot of fantastic tips on how to feed my family nutrition and keep them tasting new things. So it wasn’t just about bread.

We had a professional chef cook for us all day and she made us healthy treats with our children in mind. Everything we ate from breakfast to mid-afternoon snacks was perfect to give to your children.

They paid for my trip and gave me some coupons. Well, we also have coupons to give to some of my readers. I have so many coupons that I’m having one giveaway a month for seven months. This one is starting today but will be my September giveaway

Two People can win 5 coupons each. Each coupon is worth 5.00.

To Enter

Visit Sara Lee and tell me which loaf of bread you are going to try.

Keep lunch time interesting with Back To School ideas from Sara Lee

Check out the Sara Lee Deli page on Facebook

Make Lunch Time Fun Time: Back to School Tips from Sara Lee Deli ~ with my added commentary ;-)

Shape Up ~ (or ship out)

Make a sandwich exciting by using cookie cutters to create different shapes. Use their favorite hobby or pastime as a guideline: for sports fans, make a football; for dog lovers, try a dog bone shape.

~

Just by changing the shape of their lunch you’re going to keep them interested in the healthy lunch you made for them. I hear kids still like to trade lunches in school, keep their mind on their food so you know what they are eating. In my house at dinner time we have the deal, eat what I cook or you don’t eat at all. Very strict I know but then I know they are going to eat the veggies eventually. Harder at school I know but there are lots of ways to keep veggies in them too.

Stock Up on Favorites ~ mine is Hillshire farms

Keep your family happy by having different deli meats on hand. Your kids will all be able to choose their favorite while getting the protein they need. Sara Lee® Fresh Ideas™ pre-sliced deli meats come in 14 different varieties in a convenient, pre-packaged container.

~

We like to eat Hillshire Farms which I learned is also owned by Sara Lee. ;-)

Keep it Cool

If you need to keep your lunch cool, try freezing juice boxes or reusable bottled waters instead of adding bulky ice packs. The boxes or bottles will thaw to provide a refreshing beverage and keep the sandwich fresh.

~

I don’t recommend using bottled water. When you freeze bottled water it gets some of those nasty chemicals in it that we don’t want our kids drinking so use the juice box. Or in my house I would stick the entire lunch box in the freezer and it will be just right at lunch time

Get the Kids Involved

Instead of making lunch ahead of time, pack deli meats along with some cheese and crackers. Kids are more likely to eat what they help prepare, and they’ll have a great time stacking the ingredients to their liking during lunch time.

~

Everyone says to get the kids involved. It’s a great idea, one it takes up some time at night when kids are usually grumpy. It also gets them to try more food. Let them help you buy the food too. Give them the healthy options you want them to choose from and it’s ok to give them a cookie every now and then. Moderation is key to all food groups and a healthy diet. When you deprive yourself from something it makes you want it more. So when you are on vacation you will be more likely to over indulge. It’s the same for children. If you keep them away from cookies they’ll just hide the fact that they are eating them.

Here’s a great recipe to jazz up the everyday ham and cheese sandwich into a sushi inspired meal:

Sara Lee Deli Kid Sushi
Ingredients

2 slices Sara Lee® Fresh Ideas pre-sliced Honey Ham

2 strips Sara Lee® Swiss Cheese, thinly sliced, cut 2” x ¼”

2 slices Sara Lee® Soft and Smooth™ Made with Whole Grain White Bread

1 teaspoon ranch dressing

1 tablespoon thinly shredded carrots

2 sweet baby pickles

Method

Place two slices of white bread with the crusts cut off on a flat surface side-by-side. Using a rolling pin, or glass, gently flatten and fuse the bread slices together. Spread the ranch dressing over the inside middle of the flat bread slices. Place two slices of the ham on top of the ranch dressing. Place the shredded carrots and Swiss cheese on top of the ham. Place the two pickles horizontally and end-to-end at the bread edge closest to you. Starting at the bottom, roll the bread upwards to make a tight cigar-shaped roll. Using a bread knife, cut the roll into sushi-sized pieces approx one inch in length.

Option: Serve on a bed of mixed field greens with chop sticks and extra ranch dressing for dipping.

I’m In Chicago and not for BlogHer, I’m here with Sara Lee’s Nutrition Summit

Tonight I’m going to be eating out on Sara Lee’s dime and I’m really excited about it. I’m going to be meeting some new bloggers and seeing some I met two weeks ago. It’s not as exciting and crazy as BlogHer but, it’s much more intimate.

clip_image002Tomorrow I’m going to be learning about Sara Lee’s Soft and Smooth bread made with Whole Grain. Everyone and their dog is talking about “Whole Grain”. It’s like the new marketing buzz word in healthy food. Pop Tarts are made out of whole grain now, so what’s the deal?

What is Whole Grain?

So grain, all grains rather, have three parts: the bran (which is the protective outer shell, high in fiber and B vitamins), germ (Which is the seed for a new plant, containing B vitamins, some protein, minerals and healthy oils) and endosperm (Which is composed of starch, protein, and some vitamins and minerals).

wholegrainWhole grains or foods made from them contain all three and
naturally-occurring nutrients of the entire grain seed. Verses what we are used to enriched (”white”) flour and it contains only the endosperm, while whole grain flour contains extra protein, fiber, vitamins and minerals that are found only in the bran and germ.

The following are considered whole grains:
Amaranth, Barley (lightly pearled), Brown and Colored Rice, Buckwheat, Bulgur, Corn and Whole Cornmeal, Emmer, Farro, Grano (lightly pearled wheat), Kamut® grain, Millet, Oatmeal and Whole Oats, Popcorn, Quinoa, Sorghum, Spelt, Triticale, Whole Rye, Whole or Cracked Wheat, Wheat Berries, and Wild Rice.

But remember to really be whole grain it has to have all three parts of the grain.
