Lionsgate From Book To Movie, The Hunger Games & One For The Money

I’ve noticed recently that Lionsgate is into turning books into movies. They transformed The Hunger Games from book to movie with the first one coming out March 23, 2012.  The Hunger Games is a very popular series by Suzanne Collins and is remarkably amazing. I read the first book in one week and book two and three took me a weekend. I can’t wait until this hits theaters. Check out this Hunger Games movie trailer.

And they’re turning Janet Evonovich’s books into a movie, One For The Money. I love these books, they’re the kind of books that once you start reading them you just can’t put them down. I’ve read at least seven of them, and then stopped for some reason. I’m going to have to pick them back up and start over in anticipation of the movie. I remember six or seven years ago when I started reading them, there was talk about a possible movie even then. It’s nice to see it finally come to fruition. It’s hard to find too many ACTUAL movie details on-line, I just googled it, but I do have a movie synopsis for you here.

Katherine Heigl brings Stephanie Plum – the popular heroine of Janet Evanovich’s worldwide best-selling sixteen-book mystery series – to vibrant life in Lionsgate and Lakeshore Entertainment’s ONE FOR THE MONEY.

ONE_1Sht_27x40_V16_RGBA proud, born-and-bred Jersey girl, Stephanie Plum’s got plenty of attitude, even if she’s been out of work for the last six months and just lost her car to a debt collector.  Desperate for some fast cash, Stephanie turns to her last resort: convincing her sleazy cousin to give her a job at his bail bonding company…as a recovery agent.  True, she doesn’t even own a pair of handcuffs and her weapon of choice is pepper spray, but that doesn’t stop Stephanie from taking on Vinny’s biggest bail-jumper: former vice cop and murder suspect Joe Morelli – yup, the same sexy, irresistible Joe Morelli who seduced and dumped her back in high school.

Nabbing Morelli would be satisfying payback – and a hefty payday – but as Stephanie learns the ins and outs of becoming a recovery agent from Ranger, a hunky colleague who’s the best in the business, she also realizes the case against Morelli isn’t airtight. Add to the mix her meddling family, a potentially homicidal boxer, witnesses who keep dying and the problem of all those flying sparks when she finds Morelli himself…well, suddenly Stephanie’s new job isn’t nearly as easy as she thought.

Starring Katherine Heigl, ONE FOR THE MONEY is a fresh, funny action-comedy directed by Julie Anne Robinson and also starring Jason O’Mara, Daniel Sunjata, John Leguiziamo, Debbie Reynolds and Debra Monk.  Lionsgate and Lakeshore Entertainment present a Lakeshore Entertainment Lionsgate Wendy Finerman production in association with Sidney Kimmel Entertainment Abishag Productions. Directed by Julie Anne Robinson.  Screenplay by Stacy Sherman & Karen Ray and Liz Brixius.  Based on the novel by Janet Evanovich.

I’ve also read rumors on-line about Lionsgate bringing What To Expect When Your Expecting to life in the theaters possibly in 2012. It’s being kept tightly under wraps right now.

Behind The Muppets Movie: A Conversation About the Movie & Fashion Tips with Miss Piggy

The Muppets are a legend that I grew up with. I’ve watched so many of their movies, and hours and hours of their cartoon oh and their TV show. I love Miss Piggy, even if she’s a little over bearing when it comes to her feelings for Kermit. But don’t tell her I said that, we’re best friends now you know. Here I am on set of the movie, The Muppets, coming out November 23rd.

Kermit-Miss-Piggy_thumb

When asked about Fashion, she gave some really great fashion tips that I would be very happy to share with you guys.

Q: You are a fashion icon. What is your secret?

A: I have a few fashion secrets:

· Never wear anything that requires a hoist to get into.

· There is no such thing as too much accessorizing.

· If it’s expensive, it fits.

· Style comes in all shapes and sizes. Therefore, the bigger you are, the more style you have.

clip_image001

I also wanted to share a very in depth conversation with the Muppet herself.

What is Disney’s “The Muppets” about?

It’s moi’s story, of course. It’s about how I am working in Paris and Kermit and the other Muppets come over and beg me to come home. I run the complete gamut of acting—from smiling to frowning. It’s got Oscar® written all over it—and I’m not just talking de La Renta. I have heard rumors that there’s another storyline in the movie that doesn’t involve moi, but who really cares about that?

clip_image001[1]

What is your role in Disney’s “The Muppets?”

Moi plays moi. It’s a casting no-brainer. Naturally, all of Hollywood’s top actresses tested for the part—Roberts, Streep, Winslet, Jolie, Bullock—but in the end they decided that there is only one moi and I’m it!

In the movie, I portray the plus-size fashion editor of Vogue Paris—I’m in charge of a whole office full of editors who all want to look just like moi. But of course, Kermit wants me back with the Muppets to save the day and put on some big show. Can I resist? Well, see the movie and find out.

How does your life differ from the characters you portray on the big screen?

In real life, my wardrobe is much, much bigger and more expensive, but I’m a lot like what you see on the big screen. The camera does add a few pounds—when people meet me in person they’re always amazed at how svelte I am. Take my word for it.

What made you agree to star in Disney’s “The Muppets”?

It was written especially for moi. And they said I could keep all the shoes.

What is the funniest scene in the film?

The scene where Kermie begs me to come back to Hollywood with him is the funniest scene. I’m hilarious; and the frog isn’t half bad either. There are so many very funny scenes in the film… and guess what, moi is in all of them! Coincidence? I don’t think so.

What was it like working opposite Jason Segel?

Jason is a sweet, sweet man… and a very funny comedic actor. Of course, when I heard he wrote the movie and could write my part even bigger, we became best friends forever.

THE MUPPETS

…Amy Adams?

Amy and moi are so much alike, except for the fact that she’s been nominated for an Academy Award® THREE TIMES and I’ve gotten bupkis! (Entres nous, I think they just don’t want to nominate anyone outside their species.)

There was a little tension at first, but once Amy learned about not touching the frog, we became fast friends. We hang together whenever we’re in the same city, which up to now has been… let’s see… never.

…Kermit?

What can I say about Kermie and moi? Separately we’re fabulous and together we are absolute legends—like Astaire & Rogers, Tracy & Hepburn, Oprah & Stedman.

…Walter?

Walter is delightful! He worships the Muppets and especially moi. And as everyone knows, I absolutely adore being worshipped.

What do you do in your free time?

Shop. Eat Chocolate. Pose for photographers. Rinse. Repeat. I’m a diva. I have people to schedule my free time. You have no idea how time consuming that is. The Muppets

Are you and Kermit together?

Of course we’re together. In the movie, we seem to be apart, but that’s just for dramatic tension. In real life, we’re fabulously happy and the longest-running interspecies couple in all of Hollywood.

Why should audiences see Disney’s “The Muppets”?

Because moi is in it! What a silly question!

It is the best movie I have ever made…and therefore the best movie ever made. Other than that, it’s got a lot of laughs and you’ll have a good time. Are those enough reasons for you?

Fun Facts Why You Have to See The Help Movie

I saw a very early screening of the help and I highly recommend that you get your mom groups/girlfriends together to see this movie. It’s spectacularly heart wrenching and the must see movie of August. I even have a list of fun facts about The Help that will get you into the mood to see the movie when it opens August 10th.

clip_image002

The film is based on the phenomenal New York Times best-selling book by Kathryn Stockett. With 3 million copies in print, “The Help” remained on the NYT best-seller list for 103 weeks, six of which were at No. 1.

Produced by Brunson Green, Chris Columbus and Michael Barnathan, and directed and written for the screen by Tate Taylor, “The Help” is a deeply moving, poignant film about the ability to create change.

clip_image001

Tate Taylor directed and wrote the screenplay for “The Help.” Both he and the author of the novel, Kathryn Stockett, were childhood friends and grew up in Jackson, Mississippi, where the book is based.

“The Help” boasts an illustrious cast, including Academy Award® nominee Viola Davis, Allison Janney, Emma Stone, Bryce Dallas Howard, Octavia Spencer, Oscar® winner Sissy Spacek and Academy Award® nominee Cicely Tyson.

    clip_image001[4]

Growing up in Jackson, Miss., in the 1970s, both director Tate Taylor and author Kathryn Stockett had maids (whom both refer to as their “co-mothers”) who cared for them while their mothers worked. Taylor’s “co-mother,” Carol Lee, has a small part in the film.

The film was shot on location in and around Greenwood, Miss., and the citizens of Greenwood willingly pitched in to find period props for the film by digging around in their attics and basements, and many played extras in “The Help” as well. Even producer Brunson Green’s grandmother’s dress wound up in wardrobe.

        clip_image001[6]

Octavia Spencer, who plays Minny in the film, is a longtime friend of director Tate Taylor, having met him when they both worked on a film. The two eventually became roommates in LA for four years. In addition, producer Brunson Green (also from Jackson, Miss.) is also a longtime friend of both Taylor and Spencer and the three used to hang out together, occasionally with Kathryn Stockett, author of “The Help.”

While growing up in Jackson, Miss., Tate Taylor, Kathryn Stockett and Brunson Green would regularly be treated to milkshakes and grilled cheese sandwiches at Brent’s Pharmacy soda fountain. The production was able to recreate the real Brent’s Pharmacy as it was back when they were children.

Local chefs were brought in to make sure foods used in the scenes, from fried chicken to congealed salads, were regionally correct and also correct for the times, and a conscious effort was made to make it all look homemade—not fancy or store-bought—to add to the authenticity of the film.

      clip_image001[8]

Cast members spent a whole day in a ballroom learning how to do period dances, including the bunny hop—taught by Sissy Spacek.

A dialect coach, hired to make sure everyone’s southern accent was perfect, flew into Jackson, Miss., to record accents for the actors. Even the real southerners in the cast were coached in the proper way of speaking specifically for the Mississippi Delta. Allison Janney picked Producer Brunson Green’s mother’s accent to emulate for her character, Charlotte. In 1963, Mrs. Green was the same age as the character Skeeter, played by Emma Stone.

The mothers of Tate Taylor, Kathryn Stockett and Brunson Green all have appearances in “The Help.”

      THE HELP

Due to the intense summer heat in Mississippi, the filmmakers adjusted the schedule to shoot only indoors in the middle of the day. Exteriors were shot in the early morning and late afternoon.

Director Tate Taylor grew up visiting Greenwood, Miss., as a child and would later spend nights in the home used for the interior of Skeeter Phelan’s house. Taylor was college buddies with the homeowner’s son.

The Mayflower Café, a Jackson, Miss. landmark, where Stuart and Skeeter eat oysters in the movie, is one of Director Tate Taylor’s favorite restaurants. It is the place where Taylor ate his first raw oyster as a child.

The movie theater that Skeeter observes in the beginning of THE HELP while getting gas was the theater Director Tate Taylor went to as a child. It closed down in the 1980s and was brought back to life by the production crew. The gas station is a yoga studio today, but was transformed back into a gas station for the shoot.

What Will You Watch Friday July 15th Harry Potter or Winnie The Pooh?

The final chapter of Harry Potter comes out the same day as a new chapter for Winnie the Pooh. So the question is will you be going to watch Harry Potter or Winnie the Pooh this Friday?

      clip_image001

I’m a huge Harry Potter fan and am truly excited to see the final movie, but I’ll be waiting until it comes out on DVD. We just don’t go to the movies anymore without the kids. I’m not going to try and talk you out of going to see Harry Potter. I’m not crazy, heck, if baby sitters were cheaper, parking was free, and popcorn was a dollar maybe I would go see Harry Potter myself. But it’s not and it’s much easier to take everyone to see Winnie the Pooh. But maybe, just maybe you could find a little bit of Harry Potter in Pooh?

      clip_image001[5]

Disney knows what they’re up against, so much so that they put Winnie the Pooh in his own final battle.

My advice, avoid the long lines to see Harry Potter, wait until it hits redbox or onDemand and just watch Winnie the Pooh this weekend. I’ve seen it and I loved it. It’s super cute, and you might even learn how to spell something.

From Book To Movie: Interested in The Help?

I went to a very early screening of The Help and all I’m allowed to say at this point is that you need as many tissues as you can find. A whole box per person that attends this movie. No, not everyone at the screening cried, in fact the person sitting right next to me didn’t cry at all, but me, I was a fountain of waterworks. The movie The Help is based on the book The Help, and I haven’t read the book yet, my friends say I should read it, but if I’m going to cry that much I’m not sure about reading the book.

The Help Movie PosterBased on one of the most talked about books in years and a #1 New York Times best-selling phenomenon,  “The Help” stars Emma Stone (“Easy A”) as Skeeter, Academy Award®–nominated Viola Davis (“Doubt”) as Aibileen and Octavia Spencer as Minny—three very different, extraordinary women in Mississippi during the 1960s,  who build an unlikely friendship around a secret writing project that breaks societal rules and puts them all at risk. From their improbable alliance a remarkable sisterhood emerges, instilling all of them with the courage to transcend the lines that define them, and the realization that sometimes those lines are made to be crossed—even if it means bringing everyone in town face-to-face with the changing times.
Deeply moving, filled with poignancy, humor and hope, “The Help” is a timeless and universal story about the ability to create change.

Tell me, should I go get the book and read The Help?
