Special Family Breakfast Log Cabin Syrup the No High Fructose Corn Syrup Giveaway

Sometimes on the weekends we have a special breakfast that daddy makes while I get to sleep in for a few extra minutes. If I’m lucky, you know, I get to sleep in until 7:30 or 8:00 but then I miss out on having breakfast with the entire family. So, sometimes I’ll stay in bed just long enough for dad to get the kids out of bed and have breakfast made. Pancakes were on the menu on this special day and we had a special chef sign up for the job. image

Miles and Zoe both love to help with everything and Miles put on all of his gear to help in the kitchen, but then we went and did some power tool work, which I certainly can not complain about, they did some daddy do’s that were on a list of mine for a long time. Anyway, we started out our day with a great breakfast and we used syrup that didn’t have high fructose corn syrup in it thanks to Log Cabin. Log Cabin sent us three of their syrups that have no high fructose corn syrup.

Log Cabin is the only branded table syrup to have eliminated high fructose corn syrup from its ingredients

Last month I posted a survey supplied to me from Log Cabin about how Moms Beat Out Paula Deen. Of course, moms are requested in the kitchen, we’re there in the trenches every day working to create healthy food for our kids.

imageMany believe that You are What You Eat and we need to be putting good food into our bodies and be concerned with what we are feeding our children.

· More than half of those polled stated they make a conscious effort to choose breakfast options they feel good about for themselves and their families (56 percent), with nearly half (49 percent) stating they are trying to remove high fructose corn syrup from their family’s diet.

We are working diligently on eating healthier. I do find it difficult because I grew up eating whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. But I’m trying to learn more about how to feed my children healthier and companies like Log Cabin are making it easier to get rid of high fructose corn syrup by making products normally very high in them without it.

Moms Beat Out Paula Deen

Moms can be quite proud as Log Cabin (the only branded syrup to have eliminated high fructose corn syrup) found in a recent survey that us moms are the top pick for America’s favorite breakfast chef with 42 percent preferring that we make the first meal of the day at their houses. Check out these fun survey results, moms are preferred!

Log CabinBreakfast a la Mom

· Don’t tell Paula Deen, but she came in third… Mom may not have a show on the Food Network, but she runs the show at her own house. Outranking Rachel Ray (22%) and Paula Deen (15%), Mom is the top pick for America’s favorite breakfast chef with 42 percent preferring that she make the first meal of the day at their houses.

Please Pass the Conversation

· Talking with your mouth full: A delightful surprise! Modern families continue to make conversation over their morning meal.  Eighty-eight percent of Americans talk to each other over breakfast, outnumbering those who watch TV (63%) or read a newspaper or magazine (51%) or use an iPad/mobile device (35%).

· Logging on when chowing down: It’s no surprise that the younger crowd checks in online in the morning more than their elders. 47 percent of Americans ages 18-34 use an iPad, check email, send texts or talk on the phone during breakfast, twice as many as those ages 55-64 (23 percent).

You are What You Eat

· More than half of those polled stated they make a conscious effort to choose breakfast options they feel good about for themselves and their families (56 percent), with nearly half (49 percent) stating they are trying to remove high fructose corn syrup from their family’s diet.

Keeping Breakfast Warm in the Winter

· On a cold winter’s day, two thirds of Americans enjoy their breakfasts with syrup, whether it’s warm cereal and oatmeal or pancakes and waffles.

· Brrrr! Why be cold both inside and out? Only 11 percent prefer a quick bowl of cold cereal or breakfast bar in the winter.

Dress Code

· Dressed to impress: Men are more likely to be dressed and ready to go while eating breakfast (40 percent) than women (27 percent).

· Been practicing for years! Those who are older have their system down pat when it comes to a breakfast routine. Those ages 65 and up were more likely to have a routine for breakfast (73 percent) versus those ages 18-34 (58 percent).

This is part of a campaign I’ll be working on with Log Cabin! I will receive product to review next month!

To Use syrup or not to use syrup that is the question

In my house the decision to use syrup has gone away until now. I feel that my kids don’t need syrup, they are only two and one. I never wanted my kids to have a whole lot of extra sugar or additives that they can live without, and although I still feel that way; yet, there is another option I might consider when they get older.

Log Cabin has reformulated their syrup. It no longer has high fructose corn syrup. Log Cabin sent me the syrup to try and I like it. I love the Maple flavor in my syrup. I don’t have the best taste buds but I’m sure I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference in this syrup and another syrup full of sugar and high fructose corn syrup.

What do you think about sugar? Natural sugar, high fructose corn syrup or fake sugar? I think I’m a fan of natural sugars found in fruit.

Reformulated Log Cabin syrup can be found on store shelves across the country in Log Cabin Original Flavor Log Cabin Sugar Free and Log Cabin Lite flavors. Read more about Log Cabin. Log Cabin has been making syrup since 1887 and named after Abraham Lincoln (he grew up in a log cabin).

From the bottle: in a 1/4 cup:

210 Calories

Zero Fat

105 mg Sodium

52 Total Carbs (that’s a lot right?)

33 Sugars (that’s a lot too?)

I’m not sure how it compares to other syrups because it’s the only syrup I have in the house right now.
