Gotta Catch Santa Claus DVD Movie Review and #giveaway

image

On October 13 Lionsgate released Gotta Catch Santa Claus, a new animated movie that will start airing on ABC Family’s 25 days of Christmas. I love Christmas and I can’t get enough of it. If you follow me on twitter then you will know that I’ve already turned on the Christmas music. I’m also aware that all the stores have their Christmas decorations out for sale. Thank goodness for people like me ‘cause I’m ready to deck the halls.

Gotta Catch Santa Claus stars William Shatner as the voice of Santa. I had to watch this and was lucky enough to receive a review copy from Lionsgate. I liked it more than my kids but they watched it with me, even when I wanted to watch it a second and third time. The humor was clean and defiantly family friendly. Not everything that is on the ABC Family’s 25 days of Christmas is always family friendly in my book but this one is.

Do you believe in Santa, boy I sure do. The spirit of giving and helping others in need. This is my favorite time of year. Well, that’s what this movie is about, at least the uncovering the truth behind Santa. Santa also runs into other unexpected trouble along the way but he knows how to handle it and gets back on schedule. Cute little animated move in my humble opinion.

Prima Princessa Ballarina Nutcracker

image

One of my favorite things about Christmas is The Nutcracker. I love the Nutcracker. I love going to see it live, I love watching it at my house and I was in it when I was in elementary school. I went to a private school and my dad didn’t have extra money. I think we could barely afford the school but he wanted me to have a good Catholic education so when I was up for the lead and didn’t get it I think it’s because the other girl’s family had more money. Ahh, I’m too shy for so much attention anyways.

Prima Princessa Presents The Nutcracker

I was pleasantly surprised when I watched this because I didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t think it would be appropriate for Zoe yet but why was I surprised when both Zoe and Miles wanted to get up and dance when they were doing the teaching segments in-between some of the scenes. Hmm, I’ll never know about something until I try it and see it through my kids’ eyes.

This family Christmas movie is the perfect Holiday Gift for girls ages 3 to 7. Join Prima Princessa, the adorable cartoon fairy ballerina princess, as she takes you on an amazing Christmas adventure filled with snow fairies, toy soldiers, sugarplums and sweets galore!  Get on your pretty tutu and get ready to dance with the San Francisco Ballet as they perform excerpts from their world famous ballet “Nutcracker.” Between acts your kids will get up off the couch and dance along as they learn real ballet steps demonstrated by students from the School of American Ballet, the official academy of the New York City Ballet.

“Prima Princessa Presents The Nutcracker” is the second show in the Prima Princessa Presents series, which is designed by two stay at home mom-entrepreneurs on a mission to bring the beauty and magic of ballet into the lives of children everywhere.

Thank you to the Family Review Network & Prima Princessa for the copy of the DVD to review and enjoy with my family. It was written as part of a blog tour.

Yellowstone: Battle for Life BluRay DVD Review

The true testament of how well your High Definition TV screen will look can be found by playing a nature video and I can honestly say, not just any nature video. We recently purchased Disney’s Earth on Bluray and were pleased with the quality and impressed with out TV. We were never able to experience the HD experience except with our own home movies and the lighting was never good enough to see it. Then a few weeks later, Warner Brothers sent me a review copy of Yellowstone. WOW.

1000098487BRDLEF America’s first National Park, Yellowstone, is one of the most spectacular wildernesses on Earth and home to some of the richest wildlife beyond the plains of Africa.  Yellowstone: Battle for Life reveals the beauty and struggles of this amazing natural treasure.  A must-own documentary for nature enthusiasts everywhere, the release contains three hour-long episodes that encompass nearly an entire year at Yellowstone National Park, as well as 30 minutes of behind-the-scenes special features.

The DVD is broken up into three episodes, which are the three seasons that Yellowstone has. I learned that there really is no fall because the winter is so long and hard. Spring is barely existent as well but it is when all of the animals are able to procreate. My husband and I were glued to the TV while we watched in amazement how colorful Yellowstone really is. It’s hard to believe that something that beautiful exists in the United States. I learned a lot of historical information and was never bored.

Winter: The Wolf’s Story

The Druid Peak wolves are adept hunters in the depths of harsh Yellowstone winters, proving agile enough to defeat a fully-grown buffalo.  However, with spring approaches crisis for this group as rival wolf packs and hungry bears emerging from hibernation jeopardize their survival.

Spring: The Grizzly Bear’s Story

As the new life of spring emerges so does the grizzly bear mother with her cubs.  She is on the prowl to find nourishment to feed her growing family, but she must compete for their survival with packs of wolves and coyotes as well as the ever-looming bald eagles.

Summer: The Great Herd’s Story

Experience the splendor as herds of buffalo, elk and moose gather by the thousands across the plains of Yellowstone.  BBC reveals the intensity of the fighting between bulls that is often so brutal it ends in severe injury and even death, as Yellowstone’s inhabitants prepare for the return to winter once again.

Care Bear Buddies DVD + Toy Review

Care Bears: Bear Buddies

I was just sent a copy of Care Bear Buddies to review and giveaway from Lionsgate. It explained a lot that I didn’t understand from the other Care Bears DVD we watched recently. I learned about their friendship and about the bad bear Grizzle. I just didn’t understand what he was at first, but he likes to play secretly and have fun just like the other bears. He would just rather hate the world publicly and spread gloom. Every good guy needs a bad guy and grumpy doesn’t count.

Product Description:

Care Bears™ DVD, Care Bears: Bear Buddies with eight never-before-released episodes from the top-rated Saturday morning CBS TV series. While supplies last, the all–new release comes packaged with a lovable toy bear buddy making for an incredible value.  These adorable toy bears come in 6 different color characters, but are available for a limited time only, so kids will be eager to search for their favorite color bears on store shelves – and collect them all!  Come journey with the Care Bears into Care-a-lot where the Care Bears learn about being true to themselves and each other.  Watch as Share, Oopsy, Love-a-lot and the rest of the Care Bears embark on new adventures that focus on “friendship” from creating a rockin’ music band to trying to cheer up a sad friend. Care Bears: Bear Buddies teaches kids valuable lessons about being true to themselves and each other, understanding, and forgiveness – themes of emotional intelligence that help kids develop and are mom-friendly.

The Care Bear Buddies came with a little Sunshine bear that is not meant for children under three. Both of mine are under three and I was shocked that the bear lasted to the end of our play date we had that day, but shortly afterwards when they didn’t want so share and they both had a piece of it it became the headless care bear. I told my daughter it died and my husband said that’s a bit morbid for a two year old to hear. Now she uses the word but doesn’t seem to understand the meaning. Oops, I guess care bears are all about life, happiness, sharing and caring. So my life lesson was not to use care bears for the harder lessons in life. ;-)

Care Bear Buddies was adorable and my children liked it. Zoe wanted to know where and what everyone was doing and her comprehension skills have increased so much. She asks, “what is Grizzle doing” “Why is she crying”.

Word World: A Kooky Spooky Halloween review

WordWorld: A Kooky Spooky HalloweenWelcome to the place where words come alive. Word World! I was sent this DVD to review a month ago. I think. I’m really not sure when it arrived because it went to the house we no longer live at and the new people that live there were kind enough to keep it and call up their realtor and he called my realtor and I went to pick it up at their house. They really are a nice family. That was way above what I would have expected anyone to do.

Word World has become one of my favorite shows because it encourages the recognition of words. I’m sure my daughter can see that with all that she catches on to.  I was first introduced to Word World when I was at another Moms house. her kids were watching it and it was after I had been working on letters with my daughter. She said ‘e’ and there was an e. I was so excited.

The other mom said she loves Word World because it brings back memories of when she used to make pictures out of words. The only one I ever did was boy or girl. She had a larger imagination than I did and so did the creators of this show.

I love watching Word World too. It comes on PBS and is put out on DVD’s by NCircle Entertainment.

NCircle was kind enough to send us a preview DVD of WordWorld: A Kooky Spooky Halloween to review.  It’s a great DVD, it only has two episodes on it so it’s just a little short. All the characters need Halloween costumes and one of the characters accidentally scares all the rest. ;-) You’ll have to watch it to find out.

My Daughter was left saying

“Watch it again mommy”

“Watch it again”

Wow Wow Wubbzy, Wubbzy Goes Boo and a #giveaway too.

DCF 1.0Wow Wow Wubbzy lives in a purple tree and that delights my daughter Zoe to no end. It’s purple, it’s fun, it’s cute and exactly what you expect from Nickelodeon Studios. Wow WOW Wubbzy DVDs kept my kids attention until Daddy got home from work on Tuesday night.. I found myself remembering when I was younger and used to watch Nickelodeon at night. The animation and voices seem the same, but Wow Wow Wubbzy is a lot cleaner than Ren and Stimpy was. ;-)

Also, feel free to download Wubbzy coloring pages for your kids to get into the Halloween spirit.

Listening to KSM Read Between the Lines Review

clip_image001I was sent a review stream of music by ksm. The new album Read Between the Lines is like stepping back into the 80’s but with some No Doubt vibe intertwined without the depressive parts. I felt like I needed to bleach my hair blond and put on my leggings. (good thing all of these things are in style again)

My son was more into it than my daughter but my son has an ear for more genres of music. You know from banging on a drum all day to screaming just for fun.

The all girl rock band fall into in the age range of 15 to 18, and they all play their own instruments and write their own songs. That’s a lot of talent in the five girls. Their cover of Cheap Trick’s “I Want You to Want Me” was used for the new ABC Family show Ten Things I Hate About You, and their latest single is called “Saturdays and Sundays.”   They’re currently on tour with fellow Disney artist Mitchel Musso, and just finished opening for Demi Lovato.  The girls are also doing a series of short webisodes about their album and life on the road  (I’ve included a link above).

Your Baby Can Read Review and #giveaway

Your Baby Can Read - Success StoriesWe were sent the introduction kit of your baby can read. It came with a DVD for the kids to watch and instructional DVD for me to watch and flash cards and a book. I’ve been quite impressed with the quality of the book and flash cards because the kids have been playing with them unsupervised.

I’ve been too busy to sit down with them and work with them for the amount of time every day that the program really requires to work. I do believe it works though, especially after reading all of the material and seeing the charts and graphs about what to expect on word recognition verses actual reading and how it increases exponentially starting around age three.

Your Baby Can Read introduces words using pictures. In a way, it’s just backwards memorization. You see the word and have to remember what the picture looks like. So the word is no longer abstract. They can see all the letters. So the symbols come together in their brain.

parentsThinking back on blogging while moving into a new house, I should have taken a break. That way I would have more time to dedicate to doing reviews, but right now I have to spend so much time unpacking and cleaning everything that I’m really not sitting down with my kids and teaching them. They are learning but I know my little sponges could learn how to read if I would follow all of the instructions that were provided in the DVD. And if I would read more to them. I don’t think once a day is enough and that’s about all I’m doing right now. Read to your children that’s what I need to do and you should to. The props that you get from these Your Baby Can Read sets are pretty cool though. It’s just memorization but isn’t that all learning is sometimes.

Leap Frog Let’s Go To School Review

image Leapfrog sent me two DVD’s out, just in time for back to school. We reviewed one of them but now that I’m back in my new house I want to give the extra copy away.  In this new DVD, Tad and Lilly are back and getting ready to go to school. Leap gets them everything they need and then they realize, we’re going to school and they are afraid they aren’t ready.

The DVD titled Leap Frog: Let’s Go To School hit stores on August 18th, and even if your kids have already started school or are going to next year it would make a great stocking stuffer. I know that I’m going to start my Christmas Shopping soon. I’m still working on cleaning out all the moving boxes. I need to get busy so we can start thinking about Christmas decorations too.
