Domino’s Pizza Dough Making Process

I had too many trip requests all come in at the same time and had to find someone to go on the Dominos Mom Blogger Press Junket. I found my friend Connie, from Miscfinds4u.com Here is her experience on Domino’s Pizza Dough Making Process.

By Connie:

I got the chance to visit a Domino’s Pizza Distribution Center in Michigan a few weeks ago and see the dough making process in person. I had no idea that Domino’s makes their own dough.

Dominos Press Trip-grouprev1The dough is made fresh at Distribution Centers across the US and Canada. Each DC makes dough 1 to 6 days a week depending on the number of stores it supports. The DC I visited makes dough 3 days a week and supports 275 stores. They break down and clean the dough making room at the end of every day and anytime the line is shut down for more than 2 hours. It takes about 4 hours to break down and scrub the room and when they start their next production day, they sanitize everything again before production begins.

It doesn’t take very many people to make massive amounts of dough when most of it is mechanized. It’s a pretty impressive process. Check out the video for details on how the dough goes from a silo of flour to finished dough loaded onto refrigerated trucks for next day delivery.

Some things I found interesting about the process:

· Dough is rejected at the quality control/template station if it’s not the correct size/weight. After working the table for some time, the men working there can tell by feel if the dough is even an ounce off. The dough is tossed into a reject bin and then sent back through the system so there’s very little waste.

· It takes 3 hours for the dough to cool from 80 degrees in the mixing room to 30 degrees in the proofing room. The dough is stacked to allow moisture to evaporate so that it stays fresher, longer. Once the dough is chilled, it’s maintained at that temperature until it’s delivered to the walk-in refrigerator at the store.

floursilo· The DC has two flour silos – each holds 55K pounds of flour – and an oil tank that pumps oil into the production room.

· There are no dough extenders or preservatives, so the dough made today is in a store within about 24 hours.

· The workers in the production team are trained to do every function within the Distribution Center and because they work in cold temperatures, they’re rotated every 2 hours so.

· I was also surprised to find out that the Distribution Center stocks everything a store needs to run from ingredients to cleaning supplies.

· Dough trays are returned to the DC and cleaned to be reused time after time.

· Domino’s is in the process of changing to “greener” cleaning chemicals.

My overall impressions were that the center was clean, very noisy, and appeared to run well. I was impressed to find out the dough was made with fresh, natural ingredients and that no dough extenders were used. I feel much bettering eating Domino’s Pizza know that I know more about them.

I’ll share some more of the experience with you over the next week. It was a fabulous look inside the pizza chains operation. Special thanks to Louise from Mom Start for allowing me to guest post.

Domino’s Pizza Reinvention of Boneless Chicken and Chicken Wings Giveaway

Domino’s Pizza Reinvention of Boneless Chicken and Chicken Wings

Surprised, yes we were…

“The new, tastier chicken wings are available in hot, BBQ and new Sweet Mango Habanero – while the new boneless chicken gives customers more choice on how to customize to their specific tastes. In addition to the new boneless chicken, made with 100 percent whole white breast meat lightly breaded with savory herbs, a selection of dipping sauces will provide multiple options. These are sure to please those who either want to spice things up with Sweet Mango Habanero or Kickers Hot sauces, or go with more traditional dipping options like BBQ sauce or Ranch.”

The Chicken Was so good to me that I knew my husband would eat it and we enjoyed it for dinner one night.

Dominos Chicken

imageOk, so let me start at the beginning. Domino’s contacted me and asked me to try out their new Chicken. Dominos sent me their boneless chicken and their chicken wings to try out along with all of their sauces so I could get a good variety of their flavors. The new chicken is available in hot, BBQ, and new Sweet Mango Habanero (and I have to say it’s sweet and HOT). And you get plenty of dipping options. I gave the ranch dipping sauce and the boneless chicken to my husband and yes he ate it all. He even said and I quote, “these are surprisingly good”. Remember guys, my husband is very picky when it comes to food especially when it comes to meat of any kind.

Domino’s Pizza continues to listen to their customers and responds by making changes when needed. This new campaign supporting their chicken improvements is the first time that Domino’s has run a chicken campaign since 2002. I didn’t even realize you could order chicken at Domino’s so it’s a good thing they started this new campaign. And let me tell you, I’m happy to be apart of the campaign because the chicken was really good. It was juicy, flavorful and made me feel like I was really eating meat. You know, some fast food places make you wonder, well not Domino’s.

The real person behind this story is Tate – the secluded chicken chef within a pizza company. Tasked with an opportunity to execute the rebirth of a product not often at the forefront of the minds of Domino’s fans, Tate’s story is the highlight of a campaign designed to take consumers through the challenges and triumphs of leading such a project. The result is a product that everyone at Domino’s is excited to add to its proud menu – one consisting of much more than just pizza.

Family Game Night This Week We’re Playing Mega Bloks Dominos Build Game

Thanks to Mega Bloks and Team Mom we received a new game to play and enjoy as a family, Mega Bloks Dominos Build Game.

image

imageThe Mega Bloks Company has grown out of just building blocks, having puzzles, games and more at their disposal. Using all of their wisdom gained over the years they put together a fun game of matching and building, Mega Bloks Dominos. In Mega Bloks Dominos children learn to have patience, taking turns and waiting to build the animal of their choice, elephant, lion, bear or giraffe. The first time we played, we made sure that we continued the game until everyone got to build their animal. Perfectly made for a family of four, mom, dad, Zoe and Miles can all play at one time.

Set up was easy enough for the kids to help with.

Directions/How to Play Mega Bloks Domino

imageEveryone picks and animal card. Then the youngest player gets to pick the starting domino. Then everyone draws two tiles. The youngest player then needs to decide if they have a matching edge to the card they played. If they do then they get to have one Mega Blok building piece for their chosen animal. If they do not then it is the next person’s turn. Go clockwise until everyone has a turn to play and then keep going until the animals are all built.

Attention spans of little ones is very short, which makes this a good game because playtime is very quick. We can usually finish a game with my son who has the shortest attention span of us all. It’s a great fun and easy to play family game.

MEGA Brands is launching the Mega Bloks Family Club, a brand new MEGA Brands blog and online community.
It’s FREE to sign up! When you become a member, you receive:

  • An EDUCATIONAL and INFORMATIVE BLOG by a leading panel of mom bloggers with articles on the benefits of construction toys, product reviews, pictures and more;

Domino’s Pizza Show Your Pizza Giveaway and Smoke Alarm Safety Tips

Domino’s Pizza is at it again with giveaways with a new campaign, Show Us Your Pizza. The "Show Us Your Pizza" initiative that you may have seen on TV (I Haven’t because I don’t have cable at all), which encourages customers to share photos of their own Domino’s pizza. Just in case you haven’t seen it like me, check out, Domino’s Pizza, Show Us Your Pizza Commercial.

In fact, for every photo submitted, you have a chance to win one of eight $500 Domino’s gift cards and it may even appear in an ad As part of the fall campaign, customers who order from participating Domino’s Pizza stores in October may be surprised when their delivery arrives aboard a fire engine. If all the smoke alarms in the home are working, the pizza is free.  If a smoke alarm is not working, the firefighters will replace the batteries and/or smoke alarm and leave the home with a fully functioning fire safety device.  Sounds pretty cool right?

In addition to the giveaway, Domino’s Pizza and NFPA wanted me to share some Smoke Alarm Safety tips with you!

Smoke Alarm Safety Tips from Domino’s and NFPA

1. An ionization smoke alarm is generally more responsive to flaming fires and a photoelectric smoke alarm is generally more responsive to smoldering fires. For the best protection, both types of alarms or combination ionization and photoelectric alarms are recommended.

2. Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area and on every level of the home, including the basement. For the best protection, interconnect all smoke alarms throughout the home. When one sounds, they all sound.

3. Test alarms at least monthly by pushing the test button.

4. Smoke rises; install smoke alarms following manufacturer’s instructions high on a wall or on a ceiling. Save manufacturers’ instructions for testing and maintenance.

5. Replace batteries in all smoke alarms at least once a year. If an alarm “chirps,” warning the battery is low, replace the battery right away.

6. Replace all smoke alarms, including alarms that use ten year batteries and hard-wired alarms, when they are ten years old or sooner if they do not respond properly when tested.

7. Alarms that are hard-wired (and include battery backup) must be installed by a qualified electrician.

8. If cooking fumes or steam sets off nuisance alarms, replace the alarm with a photoelectric type alarm or an alarm that has a “hush” button. A “hush” button will reduce the alarm’s sensitivity for a short period of time.

9. Smoke alarms are available for people who are deaf. These alarms use strobe lights. Vibration equipment is required with these alarms. This equipment is activated by the sound of the smoke alarm.

10. People with mild to severe hearing loss can use a device that will make a mixed, low-pitched sound. This device is activated by the sound of a traditional smoke alarm.

Are you a Pizza Holdout? Dominos #giveaway

I have worked with Dominos in the past, you can read the previous post even about information on Dominos and ways to win. This post is another way to win, but also to find out if you have tried Dominos lately. Dominos just finished up one campaign and is jumping right into a new one? They are looking for the Holdouts.

The new campaign launched on TV and online April 5. The “holdouts” featured in the commercials are some of the shrinking group of consumers who have yet to try the pizza that everyone is talking about.

“We listened to our consumers, we gave them a great new pizza, and we supported that with a groundbreaking advertising campaign that’s captivated America,” said Russell Weiner, chief marketing officer at Domino’s Pizza. “When you have almost every major media outlet buzzing about such a bold change, it gets pretty tough to find someone who hasn’t tried the new pizza – but we’ve found some of the last few people in America who haven’t, and convinced them to join the rest of us and try it.”

The Oh Yes We Did campaign has garnered massive media attention due to its unique, refreshing honesty. It has been featured on more than 400 local TV affiliates nationwide, and attracted more than 700,000 viewers to the full documentary at PizzaTurnaround.com. The campaign also has attracted more than 80,000 fans to Domino’s Facebook page.

Following the same line of transparency, the new documentary-style TV campaign presents two real people in their hometowns who have been “holding out,” inviting them to taste and give their honest opinion of the new pizza on camera.

You can learn more about who pizza holdouts are and how to help Domino’s Pizza find them at PizzaHoldouts.com. The website will also host a full-length version of the documentary.

Hasbro’s Family Game night and Dominos 5.55 Trio

When you order pizza at Dominos it comes in a fun box decorated by Hasbro. It’s a game. One of Hasbro’s games are on 12 inch pizza boxes. Dominos sent me a 12 inch box with Cranium on it. (had no idea that Hasbro purchased Cranium), and a coupon for a free trio item.

The Pizza box will have a family game board.

There will be Hasbro coupons for on-line Dominos customers

~ with any order from now until December 21st customers will receive 30.00 in money saving coupons from Hasbro.
