Hormel began with chili con carne and Dinty Moore began with beef stew but together they now have almost 20 different varieties combined. Not only is Hormel a well known brand for food on our shelves but they also have had quite a history in advertising. Their iconic advertising such as  George Burns and Gracie Allen and the Hormel girls, then in the 30’s they used characters like Jiggs and Maggie from “Bringing up Father” for Dinty Moore advertising. Then in the 60s and 70s, a lumber jack character was introduced, proclaiming “First name’s Dinty, last name’s Moore,” and he placed his thumbprint on every can. In the 80’s they moved on to a football player, Fran Tarkenton was tapped to promote Hormel® chili as an official training table food.
