Stop MRSA Now Equip Them Well Sweepstakes and #Giveaway

MRSA is everywhere and we didn’t realize just how easy it is to catch until last year when my husband came down with MRSA. Then shortly after he had it our daughter came down with MRSA. There are ways to prevent it though. Clorox Company and SwapMeSports.com, has teamed up with professional basketball star Grant Hill to help us all learn how. Together they have launched Equip them Well. Equip them Well is a program to help teach families and sports teams about practical MRSA prevention steps. These steps are as simple as washing hands and  as easy as disinfecting equipment or toys with a bleach solution. My grandmother always tells me not to worry about the house too much, just use bleach on the toys once a week and everything will be ok.  Like so many others who have been affected by the threat of MRSA, Hill and I understand the importance of prevention, both in the locker room, at home and on the court. I certainly know how important it is to take the necessary steps to keep the house cleaner, and all our hands and toys washed. When my husband was in the hospital we were given a pamphlet telling us how to deal with MRSA.

MRSA“We need to get more kids in the game with youth sports – but I also know firsthand that MRSA is a tough opponent that many young athletes may face,” said Hill, MRSA survivor and Stop MRSA Now Coalition member.  “That is why I am excited about the Equip Them Well program to inform parents and coaches that we all play a part in MRSA prevention.”

Equip Them Well Sweepstakes:

Donate Used Sports Equipment and Score a Chance to Meet Grant Hill

In addition to educating parents about MRSA prevention, the Equip Them Well program is committed to providing the resources necessary for kids from all communities to take part in youth sports. Parents can collect, disinfect and donate used youth sports equipment to communities in need through the Equip Them Well page on StopMRSANow.org

Each family that visits StopMRSANow.org and enters the sweepstakes will score a chance to win a trip to Phoenix for a Suns game and exclusive “meet-and-greet” with Hill.

Equip Them Well – With Simple Equipment Wellness Steps

MRSA is generally spread by skin to skin contact and by touching surfaces that have come in contact with a person’s infection. The following steps can help prevent the spread in community settings:

  • Scrub up – Wash hands frequently with soap and warm water for at least 15 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand rub sanitizer.
  • Wipe it down – Use a disinfecting bleach solution to wipe down and disinfect hard surfaces. (1 tablespoon of disinfecting bleach diluted in 1 gallon of water or as directed on label)
  • Cover your cuts – Keep any nicks or wounds covered with a clean, dry bandage until healed.
  • Keep to yourself – Do not share personal items, like towels or razors, that come into contact with bare skin.
  • Use a barrier – Keep a towel or clothing between skin and shared equipment.
  • Don’t play dirty – Wash children’s athletic clothing after each use, using the warmest wash recommended and adding bleach when appropriate.

You can download the MRSA Playbook for free that has great information to share about what MRSA is, how it is spread, and special precautions to take at schools, childcare centers, locker rooms & gyms, and hospitals.

Help Your Local School: Power a Bright Future Grant By Clorox

I like to collect school supplies along with my MOMS Club in the month of August for back to school in September. We take these supplies over to the Maltby Food Bank and they fill up back packs for kids in need. They also stock up some of the teachers closets with what they have left over.

Do you have a local program that you support?

If not, you might want to look into it and look into Clorox’s Power a Bright Future program.

Help Bring Health Care to Kids in Need Children’s Health Fund/Clorox

One in five children in the U.S. live in poverty and millions of children don’t have access to regular check-ups and timely doctor’s visits when sick.  Children’s Health Fund (CHF), a non-profit organization committed to providing health care to the nation’s most medically underserved children and their families, and Clorox are working to change this and connect kids to ongoing health care through a new program called Connect Kids to Care

Clorox

As part of Clorox’s commitment to preventive health for families, the company is donating half a million dollars to CHF to help support their goal of providing half a million health care visits to disadvantaged children across the country, over the next two years.

In addition, Clorox is donating $1.00 for each new fan on the Clorox Facebook page, up to $100,000.

To help Clorox spread the word and help CHF provide health care visits to children in need you can:

  1. Connect: Visit the Clorox page on Facebook® (www.Facebook.com/Clorox) to learn more about the program and become a fan. Clorox will donate $1.00 to CHF for each new fan that joins the Clorox Facebook page up to $100,000 (from April 2010 to January 2012).
  2. Share: Help spread the word to friends and family by changing your Facebook status (additional details on Facebook.com/Clorox).
  3. Act: Visit the Clorox Facebook page to find out more and learn how a $10 donation can help CHF provide health care to children in need.

Without access to regular health care, many children go without treatment for common ailments, like asthma and cavities, which can lead to serious problems if left untreated. CHF’s mobile medical clinics go into underserved communities to bring ongoing health care to children at schools, community centers, homeless shelters and other places in the heart of the community.

With the click of a mouse, you can help connect kids to comprehensive health care and give them a chance at a healthier future.

Clorox’s I Don’t Want To Miss Contest #idontwantomiss

I remember being in high school and going going going. My senior year, I had a job after school, marching band before school, and homework when I was supposed to be asleep; and never every stopped. Even when I got sick I wasn’t able to stop, I would not miss band practice or work. That was over ten years ago, I have hard that kids lives are even more full of activities now. Chances of kids getting all worn out and sick are on high levels. So Clorox is spreading the world about flu prevention with American Idol finalist Danny Gokey. Together they have launched I Don’t Want to Miss…, a national campaign designed to get teens and their teachers involved in flu prevention.

The dual risk of the seasonal flu as well as the 2009 H1N1 virus, makes this year’s flu season especially complicated. To help spread the word about flu prevention, former American Idol finalist Danny Gokey has paired up with The Clorox Company to launch I Don’t Want to Miss…, a national campaign designed to get teens and their teachers involved in flu prevention.

The program is in it’s second year and it features a contest that invites school musical groups, like glee clubs, show choirs, etc.  to develop a video performance of a song written by Berklee College of Music student Will Wells on what they don’t want to miss out on if they were home sick and why prevention is important. The winning school will win a music class led by former American Idol finalist Danny Gokey! Isn’t he amazing?

For each entry submitted, The Clorox Company will donate $100 (up to $10,000) to the Sophia’s Heart Foundation, a charity founded by Gokey in honor of his late wife, Sophia, and dedicated to helping children achieve academic success via musical training and restoring musical dreams in children.

Contest Details:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend that children and teens over 6 months and up to age 18 get flu vaccinations. In addition to vaccination, the most important step in flu prevention, disinfecting frequently touched surfaces and washing hands often play an important role in prevention.
Visit the Clorox page on Facebook (www.Facebook.com/Clorox) after January 28 to learn more about this creative and informational challenge. For the first 100 groups to submit, the teacher will receive a wellness care package from The Clorox Company.

Say Boo to the FluClorox wants to help you Say Boo To the Flu. With the CDC predicting a very bad flu season everyone seems to be on high alert. My kids doctor has been out of flu shots. I’m going to need to find some, but they have to have the infant one so it’s not like I can just go anywhere.

Flu Prevention Steps

Vaccination is the first step in flu prevention.  However, even after receiving both flu vaccinations, people should take simple steps to help prevent the spread of the seasonal and H1N1 flu viruses in their homes:

  • · Wash Hands Frequently: Wash hands with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds (the time it takes to sing the “Happy Birthday” song twice).
  • · Disinfect Germ Hot Spots: Disinfect the surfaces kids touch most frequently – like doorknobs, faucets or plastic toys.
  • · Do the Elbow Cough: Cough and sneeze into your elbow instead of your hands to help prevent the spread of germs from touch.
  • · Follow Good Health Guidelines:  Eat right, exercise and get plenty of sleep to help boost your body’s ability to fight the effects of colds and the flu.

Clorox Canister Contest

When The Family Review Network offered me the chance to review the new

Clorox Disinfecting Wipes Decor Canisters, I jumped at the chance. The Clorox brand of wipes is my favorite because of the canister. The Lysol one always gets clogged and my wipes get stuck. I get so mad every time I use Lysol that I don’t think it worth getting them even if they are on sale. I would rather spend more on Clorox than on the cranky Lysol wipes.

In my house, we have the Mr. Yuck sticker on all of our chemicals. So when my daughter wanted to play with the new container I had to tell her that even though something is pretty, it can still be yuck. So she knows the Clorox container is yuck.

They smell nice too. They seem to have a nice fresh scent instead of a bleach smell. We keep all of our cleaning products locked under the sink for safety and because of how terrible cleaning containers look. Even the older Clorox container was a big bright yellow thing that my husband would constantly remind me to put away.

So now, I have the convenience of having the wipes right out on the counter, available for use whenever I need them and I need them often.

I mean, look at the pictures, which one would you rather have on your counter?

A: cwipes

or B:canwipes
