Guest Post – Summer Oleksy President of MOMS Club of Woodinville

IMG_3293 The Northwest Regional Luncheon was a HUGE success again this year for the MOMS Club of Woodinville, WA.  Thank you to the 18 MOMS who shared their time with me and each other today.  Unfortunately NO ONE won a basket this year (bummer as some MOMS in other chapters won TWO baskets).  Our gift basket which Louise and her blog MomStart support was valued at $1200 and was 6th in the collection of tickets.  Thank you Louise for your time, dedication, and donations!  This year our chapter won "Outstanding Service Programs", "Supporting the Mother-to-Mother Fund (R)", "Outstanding Chapter Overall", and "Outstanding Newsletter" awards;  these were for our achievement in the 2008-9 year.  Thank you for your support.  Mark your calendars tentatively for the second Saturday (and weekend) in November 2010 as we’ll be headed to Portland for the Northwest Regional Luncheon.  All members are invited to join us!

RT Last Day of Project Zambi Charity Auction is the 15th, elephants pictures included

To help raise awareness and funds for the estimated 15 million children who have lost parents and relatives to the AIDS epidemic in Africa and around the world, Hasbro (the international toy company) has created  a Special Edition FURREAL FRIENDS ZAMBI THE BABY ELEPHANT toy which is now available for sale at retailers nationwide. Hasbro has committed to donate 50 percent of the net profits from ZAMBI THE BABY ELEPHANT — a minimum of $500,000 (in U.S. dollars) — to the PROJECT ZAMBI Fund, part of the Hasbro Children’s Fund, beginning in 2009, and hopes to expand this global campaign to include additional Hasbro products and brands in the years to come.  By purchasing ZAMBI THE BABY ELEPHANT, consumers will be supporting programs that work directly with children orphaned by AIDS in Africa.

To further support this cause, Hasbro has put together a PROJECT ZAMBI Celebrity Charity Auction which is now live on eBay from October 5th — 15th. ! Celebs including George Clooney, Leonardo DeCaprio, Scarlett Johansson, Alicia Keys and many others have come together to help raise awareness and funds for this cause.

The online auction features custom-designed, one-of-a-kind, collectible elephant models – each signed by one of the participating celebrities.  All money raised from the sale of each elephant will be donated to the organization of the celebrity’s choice that supports children orphaned by AIDS in Africa.

The 10-day PROJECT ZAMBI Celebrity Charity Auction will be held online from October 5th – October 15th.  Visitors will be able to log on to www.ebay.com/projectzambi to bid on custom-designed, collectible elephant models signed by Hollywood’s elite:

Thanks to my Mom

Thanks to my mom I am only 5 ft 6, I need glasses and I have a gap in my teeth. Thinking about what my mother gave me is hard because I have two moms. No, my moms aren’t gay, my parents go a divorce when I was two or three and my dad re-married.

My birth mother gave me my looks and sometimes crazy desires to do wild things without thinking them through. (I don’t have these urges very often especially now that I’m married and have my own children). When I was in high school and in college I would just drive to some destination with my best friend sitting beside me and we would go have some fun. Once we ended up in New Orleans, another time we were in Deep Elem.

My stepmom (I hate that word it has such a negative connotation to it.) gave me my motherly instincts and strength. I learned from her how to run a house. Women really are the ones that take care of the kids, keep the budget, and serve the meals. We do it all.

JOHNSON’s second annual Celebrity Hand Me Down charity auction runs from 7 pm PT on Thursday May 7 through 7 pm PT on Thursday May 14, featuring items donated by celebrity moms Gwyneth Paltrow and Jessica Alba.  All proceeds will benefit the new global JOHNSON’S® NO MORE TEARS® Clean Water initiative via their well-known charitable giving site, Baby Cause.
