Ladybug Girl Bug Squad & At The Beach Children’s Books Giveaway

Ladybug Girl is the perfect little series for little girls like Zoe. They are geared to ages 3+ and are all about adventure, imagining and being a good friend. Both books are by By Jacky Davis and David Soman. I read both of them to Zoe and enjoyed reading them. They were quick and easy to read, made me smile and had some very good moral lessons in them.

ABOUT THE SERIES:

Ladybug Girl is Lulu, a little girl who loves to dress up in her ladybug costume and use her imagination to turn every moment into an adventure.

clip_image002LADYBUG GIRL AT THE BEACH:

Lulu loves the beach. Well, she’s never been there before, but she knows she will love it. And then she sees the ocean and it is big and loud and rough. That’s okay – Lulu wanted to build sand castles and fly her kite with Bingo anyway. But while they are building their sand castle, the sneaky ocean comes in and tries to steal Lulu’s favorite pail. This is a job for Ladybug Girl!

Lulu conquers her fear of the ocean when she remembers that Ladybug Girl can do anything, in this gorgeously illustrated companion to the popular series.

clip_image001LADYBUG GIRL AND THE BUG SQUAD:

Lulu is so excited for the Bug Squad to come over for a playdate, and she has all kinds of things planned for them to do – right down to eating cupcakes. The cupcakes are special because each one has a candle that Lulu thinks everyone should blow out at exactly the same time.

But when things don’t go just the way Lulu planned, feelings are hurt and apologies are necessary. Sounds like a job for Ladybug Girl, who knows how to be brave and say she’s sorry, even when it isn’t easy.

Bailey Children’s Book by Harry Bliss Giveaway

Scholastic new release BAILEY by New York Times bestselling author Harry Bliss is a cute little story about a dog named Bailey that goes to school. It’s a great story to get children laughing and relaxed about going back to school. For ages 4 – 8 Bailey is a dog who surprises and charms his fellow human classmates with his irrepressible antics. We laughed and smiled as we read the book together.

Follow Bailey the dog as he gets ready and goes to school. Should he wear the red or blue collar? Both are so fashionable! Will he be late? That squirrel is a distraction! And what about Bailey’s homework? Would you believe he ate it? That is what dogs do, after all.

In this funny new book from the best selling children’s illustrator Harry Bliss, school proves to be an unexpected place for Bailey to do all sorts of things he loves: reading, fetching, painting, digging, singing — and making friends!

Chicken Soup for the Soul Just For Preteens Giveaway

Do they have to grow up? I mean seriously. You may have just read how I feel about this in the post before, the giveaway for Chicken Soup for the Soul Just for Teenagers. Aye Yi Yi! I’m not ready, I think the age they are right now is the perfect age and I do not want them to grow up anymore. NO.

Anyway, all I’m doing here is thinking about me. This book, Chicken Soup for the Soul Just for Preteens is just for them.

chicken soup for the soul just for preteensBeing a preteen is harder than it looks! School is more challenging, bodies are changing, relationships with parents are different, and new issues arise with friends. But preteens can find encouragement and inspiration in this collection of stories by other preteens, just like them, about the problems and issues they face every day. Chicken Soup for the Soul: Just for Preteens will help readers as they navigate those tough preteen years from ages 9 to 12 with its stories from others just like them, about the highs and lows of life as a preteen. It’s a support group they carry in their backpack!

I remember how awful middle school was now that I think about it. Kids were mean to me and someone said, I’m not your friend, and I said something really stupid like, I’m not here to be your friend I’m here to learn. Let’s just say I was off the social scene for the rest of my duration at that school. No one would touch me with a ten foot pole after that fiasco.

Chicken Soup for the Soul Just For Teenagers Giveaway

Teenagers my kids are not. Toddlers they are no longer either. On their way to growing up I often wonder what it’s going to be like to have two teenagers in the house. And all I know is that I’m not ready and that I’m glad it’s quite a few years away. The though of being a parent of a teenager isn’t something I want to ponder on for too long. But I remember how difficult it was being one too. So how can we help them. Chicken Soup for the Soul Just for Teenagers is one way to support them.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Day at Pottery Barn

One of my favorite books to read to the kids is Eric Carle’s “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”. Zoe and Miles have been less and less interested in it but I get excited when they find it after a while and ask me to read it to them. The Very Hungry Caterpillar has been making its mark in as a beloved character cherished by moms and toddler’s alike for generations.  So when I found about about the 3rd Annual Very Hungry Caterpillar Day, celebrated on March 20 I had to let all of you know about it.

The Hungry CaterpillarThis year, the Very Hungry Caterpillar will be partnering with Pottery Barn Kids for some very special mommy and me time. On Sunday, March 20 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., all Pottery Barn Kids stores will be hosting a series of free activities for families, which will include story time and a reading of the Very Hungry Caterpillar and his adventures into becoming a butterfly. There is a Pottery Barn Kids located in Bellsquare Mall in Downtown Bellevue for one. I think there is one in University Village too, but you should check to find a local Pottery Barn Kids for your area to be sure!

I hope you find this event as special as I do and encourage you to share it with other moms to attend this event and celebrate Very Hungry Caterpillar Day by letting their child experience one of the greatest childhood classics of all time.

Chicken Soup for the Soul Grieving and Recovery Giveaway

I have been very fortunate in my life so far. I have not had to deal with anyone dying, or any kind of serious grief. The closest I’ve ever come was as a teenager and having my heart broken by some guy. Yeah, pathetic, I think I once spent 2 weeks on the couch depressed over a boy. Well, that was nothing compared to what I could go through over the loss of a mom, dad or grandparent and I know it will happen sooner than I want to. I still have all of my grandparents in my life.

grieving_and_recoveryChicken Soup for the Soul Grieving and Recovery has 101 inspirational and comforting stories about surviving the loss of a loved one. Grieving is a process everyone goes through in their own way. It often feels overwhelming and as if the sorrow will never end. While the hurt and sadness never completely fade, it eases with time. This collection of emotional and inspirational stories will provide comfort and peace to those mourning the loss of someone close. Others who have lost a loved one share their stories of what helped, offering guidance and support. With its stories of regaining strength, appreciating life, coping, and faith, this book will help ease the journey to healing.

Story Time: Madeline at the White House Book Giveaway

Wow, this book showed up this morning, Zoe tore into it, crawled into my lap and asked me to read to her. Oh how I love my daughter so much!

We’ve been watching all of the Madeline DVD’s that we’ve received, so I’m familiar with the storyline, but what I didn’t expect was

how much I enjoyed reading it to her. The story is in a rhyme and just flows. Surprisingly the story ended quickly because it was so fun to read. We greatly enjoyed it.

Madeling at the Whitehouse Book CoverAbout the Book

Welcome to America, Madeline!

Madeline and friends are off to enjoy a wonderful American adventure. The White House in Washington, D.C., is their destination, where they are the guests of the president’s lonely only daughter for the annual Easter Egg Roll. Cake and ice cream, dress-up games, and scary stories told in the dark are capped off by a magical nighttime tour of the capital’s most famous landmarks, before it’s time for the twelve little girls in two straight lines to say, “Au revoir, America!”

The Story Behind the Book

“The idea for sending Madeline to the White House was my grandfather’s and grew out of his friendship with Jacqueline Kennedy. In a series of letters from late 1961 and early 1962, my grandfather sounded out the First Lady on ideas for the book, which he proposed calling “Madeline visits Caroline,” with text from Mrs. Kennedy herself. My grandfather died in 1961, before the book was finished.”          – John Bemelmans Marciano, author and illustrator of Madeline at the White House and grandson of Madeline creator Ludwig Bemelmans
