The Secret World of Arrietty Blu-ray + DVD Combo Pack Giveaway

“The Secret World of Arrietty” on Blu-ray™ Combo Pack and DVD, on May 22, 2012. This visually stunning animated masterpiece stars an illustrious voice cast that includes Will Arnett, Amy Poehler, Bridgit Mendler, Moises Arias, David Henrie and the iconic and much beloved Carol Burnett.

TheSecretWorldOfArriettyBluray

“The Secret World of Arrietty” is based on the children’s book “The Borrowers”. I’ve never read that series of books but a friend that watched the movie with me did and she said it was the same kind of story. I thought the movie was pretty cute, a little long or it felt long at times but it’s really a visual thoughtful movie. “The Secret World of Arrietty” is an imaginative tale of “little people” living furtively among us, and the unlikely friendship that forms when their hidden world is discovered. The heartwarming family adventure features beautiful, stylized animation and timeless themes of friendship, courage and determination.

image

The friendship that formed between Arrietty and 12-year-old Shawn (voice of David Henrie), a human boy who comes to stay in the home, was probably my favorite part. If discovered, their relationship could drive Arrietty’s family from the home and straight into danger. From the legendary Studio Ghibli (“Spirited Away,” “Ponyo”) comes “The Secret World of Arrietty,” an animated adventure based on Mary Norton’s acclaimed children’s book series “The Borrowers.”

The film was directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi and produced by Toshio Suzuki. Gary Rydstrom directed the English-language version of “The Secret World of Arrietty” from a screenplay written by Karey Kirkpatrick. The producers include Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall. The original Japanese screenplay was written by Hayao Miyazaki and Keiko Niwa.

Get Dead Poets Society on Blu-ray Today

By Summer,

What’s your favorite Robin Williams film? If you’re like me, it’s hard to pick just one! I love Disney’s Aladdin, Goodwill Hunting, Night at the Museum, Mrs. Doubtfire (“It was a drive by fruiting.”) and Dead Poets Society.

clip_image002

Maybe it doesn’t take much to excite me, but I AM excited that Dead Poets Society is coming out in Blu-Ray today (January 17, 2012). I remember watching Dead Poets Society for the first time in high school. It was inspiring! I was talking with some girl friends about re-watching it and we got to talking about teachers in our lives who were like the teacher John Keating (Robin William’s character). This proved to me that Dead Poets Society just resonates with people. There is just something about it; I think it has to do with being young and seizing the day … carpe diem. (You know I can’t get away with posting about Dead Poets Society without the Latin!)

If you’re never seen Dead Poets Society it’s about an all-boys preparatory school in the 1959. Their school, Welton Academy, don’t encourage free thinking and prefers to tell students how to think and want to do in order to be successful in life, which really means get into an Ivy League school and have a “noble” profession such as a doctor or lawyer. Of course this is all shaken up when their new poetry teacher John Keating who prefers to be called Captain starts to help some of the boys in his class begin to love poetry, free thinking and creates a true paradigm shift on their lives. A few of these students revive the lost Dead Poets Society of which John Keating was a member of in his days at Welton as a student. Conflict arises as Keating’s unconventional teaching methods are not accepted by other Welton faculty and students. WARNING: There is a teenage suicide in the movie. (In case this is a sensitive issue for you.) BUT the movie is not gruesome and there is no image of the suicide. SPOILER ALERT: The suicide is blamed on Mr. Keating. The school forces the students to tell about the Dead Poets Society they had created in secret and sign a paper stating they blame Mr. Keating. As Mr. Keating retrieves he final belongs from his classroom while class is in session the Dead Poets Society members and other students who respect Mr. Keating stand on their desks and call out to him, “O Captain, My Captain!” (from its names sake Walt Whitman poem).

Other actors you’ll know from Dead Poets Society include Robert Sean Leonard from TV’s House, Ethan Hawke from notables such as Reality Bites (another one of my favorites) and Training Day, and Kurtwood Smith from TV’s That 70’s Show; though other actors will look very familiar from their varied resumes.

Dead Poets Society, which won writer Tom Schulman an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 1989, is being released for the first time Blu-Ray for only $20 (1-disc). Dead Poets Society is also being released in High Definition Digital Download also for $20 or Standard Definition Digital Download for $14.99. You can get your own Blu-Ray copy, right now, on Amazon for only $14.99. Copies include the movie as well as Special Features — Dead Poets: A Look Back, Raw Takes, Master of Sound: Alan Splet, Cinematography Master Class, Audio Commentary, and the Theatrical Trailer.

Behind the Magic Of Disney’s PROM & Cast Available on Blu-ray & DVD August 30th

With the Blu-ray and DVD of Disney’s film Prom coming out soon, Disney went behind the cameras to bring us the magic of the journey of a group of high school students as they learn the complex truths of growing up, balancing relationships and enjoying the most memorable time of their lives known as PROM.

JOrtiz, YChang & ATeegarden

THE STORY…

What’s the movie about? Producer Justin Springer has the answers! “We wanted to create a real story about teenage life,” he explains. “We wanted to create a comedic and dramatic movie about the different characters you meet in high school – and we centered the story around their prom.”

PROM QUEEN…

“People thought we were creating a new High School Musical when we started work on the film, but Prom is completely different,” admits actress Aimee Teegarden. “Prom is a classic, timeless story where the characters don’t burst into song and dance numbers.”

KBunbury

DRAMA CLASS…

The film’s casting team spent four months scouring the world for the perfect actors to star in the movie. “The casting process was really long, but it was a lot of fun,” reveals Prom’s director, Joe Nussbaum. “We looked at thousands of kids, but we eventually discovered the perfect people for the various roles in the movie.”

STARS IN THEIR EYES…

DNixon & KBunbury3

More than 200 extras had to be kitted out in prom outfits for the film’s finale scenes. “The theme of the prom in the movie is ‘Starry Night’,” explains actress Aimee Teegarden. “The crew decorated a school hall with lots of stars, moons and shimmering lights for those scenes. The room looked magical and beautiful!”

KEEP IT IN THE FAMILY…

All of the actors immediately clicked as soon as they started filming. “The cast got along really well,” admits Cameron Monaghan. “We hung out together off set, as well as on set. We would go to dinner together and watch movies together… We became a family that didn’t want the film shoot to end!”

FILMING FUN…

It took 30 days to shoot all of the action in Prom. “The story is set in a fictional Michigan school called Brookside High School,” reveals producer Justin Springer. “Want to know a secret? We used four different schools in Los Angeles to stand in for Brookside!”

GRUB’S UP…

On the set of the school drama, the cast and crew snacked on healthy treats including fruit, raw vegetables and dips, as well as warm cheese quesadillas. “The food was amazing,” reveals actress Danielle Campbell. TMcDonell & ATeegarden3

COOKIE TIME…

The acting gang didn’t always stick to healthy food on the set. “Every day, a lady from the catering department would wander around the set with warm chocolate chip cookies,” admits Aimee Teegarden. “They were awesome! Everyone would have to take at least one warm cookie. It was bliss.” Mmmm!

MEET THE CAST!

Discover the famous faces behind the movie’s characters… TMcDonell2

THOMAS MCDONELL

“I play Jesse Richter in Prom. Jesse is a loner and he’s a bit of a rebel – but he’s nothing like me in real life. He’s a complicated guy because he has a lot of issues at home.” ATeegarden4

AIMEE TEEGARDEN

“I play Nova Prescott in the movie. Nova is in charge of the school prom and she takes her role very seriously. She likes everything to be perfect – but it doesn’t always work out that way.” NBraun1

NICHOLAS BRAUN

“My character is Lloyd and he spends most of the movie trying to get a date for the school prom. He’s pretty invisible at school, but he’s a romantic at heart and he provides a lot of the comedy in the film.” DCampbell

DANIELLE CAMPBELL

“I play a very down-to-earth girl named Simone Daniels in Prom. Simone is a free spirit who loves music and playing the guitar – and she’s very similar to me in real life. I’m down to earth, I love music and I’ve started to learn the guitar, too!”JKusnitz & NBraun

JARED KUSNITZ

“I play a guy named Justin Wexler in the movie. Justin is a sweet, smart and loyal guy who is besotted with his girlfriend at school. Their relationship has a lot of ups and downs during the movie – but ultimately things work out for the best.”

JOrtiz1JANELLE ORTIZ

“My character is the gossip girl of the movie. Her name is Ali Gomez and she knows everything about everybody in her school. She knows all the drama and all of the details – and she was so much fun to play.”DNixon

DE’VAUGHN NIXON

“Tyler Barso is the name of my character in Prom. Tyler is the most popular guy in school. He’s smart, charismatic and he’s the captain of the lacrosse team – but he’s also a self-absorbed charmer who finds himself in trouble!” KBunbury2

KYLIE BUNBURY

“My character is the most popular girl in school. Her name is Jordan Lundley and she is the head cheerleader. Movies usually portray cheerleaders as mean girls, but Jordan is very different. She’s a really sweet girl.”

The Fox and The Hound & The Fox and The Hound 2 Blu-ray Hi-Def & DVD Combo Pack

Featuring an all-star cast of voice talents, toe-tapping music and fantastic bonus features, consumers can take home two of Disney’s The Fox and The Hound Box Artbeloved “tails.” The Fox and the Hound and The Fox and the Hound 2, 2-Movie Collection features both movies in a single 3-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack. This release provides families with the value, versatility and opportunity to enjoy their favorite movies how they want, when they want and on the entertainment platform of choice – whether it’s in the home, on a portable device and/or in the car.

I can’t remember watching The Fox and The Hound before now. I knew what it was about, but I didn’t remember how sad some parts were. I love how the fox and the hound because the best of friends even though they weren’t supposed to be, but of course trouble happened. The hound decided he could no longer be the foxes friend. The trouble was so bad that the lady who owned the fox returned him to the woods where he belonged. That made me cry. The kids loved watching The Fox and The Hound.

Now the Fox and The Hound 2 that was even more of an enjoyment for the kids. They laughed the whole time they watched it. In The Fox and the Hound 2, music takes center stage as Tod contemplates joining up with “The Singin’ Strays,” a group of harmonizing dogs appearing at the local county fair but dreaming of hitting the big time at the Grand OleOpry. While Tod does his best to fit in with his new friends, Copper finds himself relegated to “roadie,” a position he begins to resent. With the encouragement of Dixie, the “diva” of “The Singin” Strays,” Copper manages to sabotage an important audition. The next day, their differences forgotten, Copper and Tod team up and, using Copper’s superior tracking skills, they locate the Grand Ole Opry talent scout who signs “The Singin’ Strays” (minus Tod, who chooses his friendship with Copper over fame) on the spot.

Supernatural: The Complete Second Season on Blu-ray

Science fiction is and always has been one of my favorite genres to read and watch on TV. I love watching anything and everything that has the slightest bit of the supernatural in it. I love watching vampires, monsters, and things that go bump in the night. Spooky and scary then sign me up. The TV series, Supernatural has always been right up my alley as far as late night entertainment goes.

Supernatural_2Bluray logoIn Season 2 of Supernatural, the Winchester brothers face a wide assortment of otherworldly creatures including werewolves, shape shifters, ghosts, zombies, vampires and a clown demon. Now thinking back to what actually happened is Season 2 is really hard for me. I’m not even sure if I actually saw all of Season 2. What I remember most is when Sam actually turned evil and his brother Dean has to save him. If you were to come face to face with that monster, what would you do?

If I came up to a monster, I would probably scream my head off and run the other way. I don’t have any super powers so how would I defend myself. I’m not the type of person that’s equipped for monsters, I don’t have the tools to slaughter them with. I think I could handle the fact that they are real but I would have a hard time becoming good friends with them and if it came to them wanting me for supper, not being the guest but being the meal, well, I’d probably be wishing that the Winchester brothers were real too. So they could scare them away.

How would you deal with a monster face to face?

Sound of Music 45th Anniversary 3 Disc Blu-Ray and DVD Combo Packs

The Sound of Music Cover ArtThe Sound of Music is one of my favorite movies and I’ve seen it so many times I can quote the whole movie. We watched a lot of family safe movies when I was working, most of them were animated so it was so nice to have one that was more for adults. When we received the Sound of Music on Blu-ray we were pretty sure that it couldn’t look that much better. We were wrong!

The scenery was outstanding and looked so good. The opening scene and the mountain was beautiful the skies were rich with color and it was amazing! Doesn’t everyone love The Sound of Music, in anticipation of the 45th Anniversary Soundtrack, there was a local sing a long played. My MOMS Club went as a very large group, I think almost 20 different moms went in to watch this and sing a long. How fun was that? I wasn’t able to go but I found the whole thing to be very exciting. As this movie appeals to so many different people.

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment released the five-time Academy Award winning Sound of Music to Blu-ray last year. I just received a copy of the DVD from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment to review and I found it mesmerizing. This is a movie that my husband and I like to watch together with the kids. Starring Oscar winner Julie Andrews in one of her most memorable roles, the film adaptation of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical follows Maria, a spirited young woman who leaves a convent and becomes a governess to seven unruly children.  Her charm and songs soon win the hearts of the children and their father but when Nazi Germany unites with Austria, Maria is forced to attempt a daring escape with her new family.

The Sound of Music was meticulously restored and re-mastered and as I’ve said three times already, just looked amazing. The Sound Of Music 45th Anniversary Edition  is presented with new 7.1 audio and offers BD-LIVE: Live Lookup Powered by IMDb; Your Favorite Things: An Interactive Celebration featuring a Sing-A-Long, behind-the-scenes images, trivia and a location quiz; A City of Song with a virtual map of filming locations and interactive tour of the movie’s locale of Salzburg, Austria; vintage programs including a hilarious send-up of The Sound of Music from Carol Burnett and Julie Andrews herself; an enchanting interview with the real Maria von Trapp on The Julie Andrews Hour; and, for the very first time in home entertainment format, a spectacular full-length documentary, Rodgers & Hammerstein: The Sound of American Music, hosted by Mary Martin; and much more. Directed by Robert Wise and co-starring Christopher Plummer, the film garnered five Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director. A heartwarming story full of cherished songs such as “My Favorite Things,” “Sixteen Going On Seventeen,” “Edelweiss” and the title song, the film graces six different Top 100 lists by the American Film Institute including Musicals, Songs and Movies.

What Makes a Princess? Alice In Wonderland: 60th Anniversary Special Edition

birthdaygirlPrincess Zoe (my beautiful daughter) thinks all girls that wear dresses are princesses. She wears a dress or a skirt every day. She used to only wear dresses, but I had to convince her that some of her shirts were very pretty and she should not cover them up with a dress every day. (we layer here in the rainy state of Washington) So, she now wears skirts.

Well, we had this conversation; What Makes a Princess while she was watching the movie Alice in Wonderland: 60th Anniversary Special Edition. (As I was watching Alice in Wonderland I realized just how long it’s been since I’ve seen Disney’s animated version of Alice In Wonderland….YEARS). So we were watching Alice in Wonderland 60th Anniversary Special edition together as a family and as Alice is falling down the rabbit hole, Zoe gasps,

“Mommy!!! What is happening to the princess?”

I laughed and said, “Alice is not a Princess!”

Yes she is Mommy!

Why do you think that Zoe?

“Because she is wearing a dress… All Princesses wear dresses”

I said, what about Jasmine in Aladdin?

She said, She’s a princess because Disney made her one!!

And what a smart little girl she is right?

clip_image001In all honesty I don’t remember liking Alice in Wonderland, but I wanted Zoe to have the experience watching it, so I asked for the review when Disney offered it. It has become a family favorite as we’re often singing the songs from it together. Or, the kids are quoting lines from the movie.

We sing, “We’re painting the roses red!” and then we make up our own words to the song. Miles will say,

“We’re Painting the Abby Brown, We’re painting the Abbey Brown” (She’s our chocolate lab puppy)

The other day Miles came down the stairs and said…

“Who Painted my roses red?… Off with his head!”

And finally, Zoe has started saying,

“we’re late we’re late we’re late” And yes we usually are!

The new ALICE IN WONDERLAND 60th Anniversary Special Edition takes viewers on magical adventure like never before with a fantastically odd and fun-filled world of colorful characters in brilliant high-definition and crystal clear sound. Additionally, the disc comes specially-packed with never-before-seen footage hosted by Kathryn Beaumont, an all-new interactive game and more. Alice In Wonderland is now on Blu-ray and will be released in Special Edition on February 1st just in time for Valentine’s Day.

And just in case you’ve never gone down the rabbit hole with Alice before here is a full movie synopsis provided by Disney! Alice in Wonderland is a story about a young girl who grows bored listening to her older sister read aloud from a history book about William I of England. While dozing off, she dreams about falling down a rabbit hole (“Wonderland”) that is populated by a peculiar series of misadventures. The always sensible Alice whirls through a world of contradictions, imagination and surprises where she encounters amazing creatures – including a pocket watch-toting White Rabbit, the imperious Queen of Hearts and her army of playing cards, a Cheshire Cat with a lingering smile in an unforgettable fantasy, and the off-kilter Madhatter – and tests her sensibility and courage. In the end it’s all a dream, she is awakened by her sister’s voice, and as the two of them return home for teatime where she realizes that perhaps logic and reason exist for purpose. And in return, her sister realizes affectionately that Alice is still young, but will grow-up in time.

We received a copy of Alice in Wonderland from the PR Company representing Walt Disney Home Studios.

Fantasia Fantasia 2000 Blu-Ray 10.00 Off Coupon and Review

Fantasia first came out in 1940 by the animated film producer Walt Disney and was a failure. That’s hard to believe with how popular and beautiful the beloved musical creation has become. It is now known and loved so much it is considered to be a Disney Classic. There were quite a few changes made and variations on it some were completely pulled, but the classic we all know and love is quite a delight to watch and now with the magic of Blu-ray I’m able to share it with my kids. You can share it with yours too, and save 10.00 on Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 at Disney Movie Rewards.

clip_image001

Fantasia Fantasia 2000 Movie Box ArtOn November 30th, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment released FANTASIA/FANTASIA 2000: 2-Movie Collection Special Edition. We can experience the magical legacy of Disney all over again and some of Fantasia 2000 is from the original creation of Fantasia made by Walt. The unique combination of music and animation in FANTASIA and FANTASIA 2000 broke the boundaries of imagination. With the release of Fantaisa and Fantasia 2000 you can, as I will, introduce the kiddos to the animated musicals and dig deeper into the history of Disney with bonus material that includes a tour of the Disney Family Museum in San Francisco, CA and the highly acclaimed Walt Disney & Salvador Dali animated-short film collaboration, Destino! Available for the first time ever on Blu-ray, the seven minute film is the result of a unique collaboration between Walt Disney and Salvador Dali begun in 1946, but put on hold due to studio financial concerns. In 2003, Roy E. Disney worked with a team of modern day animators to complete the film as a tribute to Walt’s pioneering artistic vision. Accompanying the highly anticipated short is an all-new feature length documentary entitled “Dali & Disney: A Date With Destino,” which explores the origins of the relationship between Disney and Dali, their collaboration on Destino, and ultimately how the film came to fruition so many years after its inception.

I have always loved watching Fantasia. I haven’t shown the kids Fantasia yet, when we put the movies in we started off with Fantasia 2000 and it had Mickey and the Socerer’s apprentice on it. Miles was so happy to see Mickey. He said

“Look Mom, it’s Mickey…  I Like Mickey Mom”

Zoe said,

“mom, what’s Mickey doing?”

He’s working I said,

“why mom”

and I didn’t really know what to say

Needless to say though, the kids loved watching all of the fanciful scenes, creatures dancing, and music playing. There was one scene though that both of the kids said was too scary. There was umm water I think, or something like Mother nature, and a very evil naughty volcano that hurt her and the forest. Wow, it was intense for the kids but overall, we really liked Fantasia 2000.

Fantasia DVD Bonus Features:

•    New Audio Commentary with Disney historian Brian Sibley

Viewers are offered a look at the origins of pieces that were started by Walt, such as “The Emperor and the Nightingale” which was then taken over by a very young John Lasseter. Ultimately, Musicana was stopped to begin production on “Mickey’s Christmas Carol,” but the memories of this piece still live on with the animators who conceived it.
