Teacher’s Appreciation TreeTop Apple-Dapple Cake Recipe

I know that Teacher’s Appreciation week is coming up quickly and I wanted to share this recipe that TreeTop sent to me.

An apple for teacher is a time-honored tradition, but this year, why not take teacher’s favorite fruit and create something special (and delicious!) during Teacher Appreciation Week with Tree Top’s Apple-Dapple Cake.

This moist, not-too-sweet cake is a perfect mid-morning or afternoon snack, which will help tide teachers over through the craze of the school day. As an added bonus, it’s fun and easy for kids to make, with supervision, of course.  Tree Top_teacher edited1

Tree Top Apple-Dapple Cake:

Ingredients:

Cake:
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 large eggs, beaten
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 cup Tree Top Apple Sauce
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 teaspoons cinnamon
3 cups finely chopped apples
Glaze:
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup milk

Directions:

1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. Make a well in the center and set aside.

2. In a medium bowl, combine eggs, oil, applesauce, and vanilla. Add the wet mixture to dry ingredients and stir just until moistened. Stir in apples.

3. Spread the batter in a greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan. Bake at 350°F for 45-50 minutes.

4. For the glaze, combine the brown sugar, butter, and milk in a small saucepan. Cook and stir until bubbly and all of the sugar is dissolved. Cool slightly. Drizzle warm over cake when it has cooled for 5 minutes, so it can seep into the cake and keep it moist and completely irresistible.

Vermont Village Pack the Pantry Giveaway

Logo Vermont Village began by gathering apples in the wild. Their  dream was to make these pure natural fruits of the land available to everyone. They learned from tradition, to bring out the goodness and the natural flavor from the fruit. “Cook them whole, cook them fast.  Don’t add anything that nature didn’t put there. That’s the best way.” It was in this motto that they  let its natural character and taste shine through. They still aim to make a wholesome, natural applesauce that would appeal to taste buds, wallets, and the nascent natural market. So they became the first company to sell additive-free, no sugar-added, all-natural applesauce to supermarkets.

Vermont Village sent me a sample of every flavor they make. They sent us so much applesauce I had to share it with everyone.

image This photo was taken before our playdate, before I opened every package. I let my kids choose which flavor they wanted and they both chose the strawberry banana. It’s the same flavor I would have chosen. This is only three of the samples we were sent. I’ve been handing out applesauce to all my neighbors and one of them used it in a recipe for banana muffins. I also love to substitute apple sauce for oil when it comes to baking. Adding applesauce is a healthy alternative to oil, keeping baked goods moist with less fat.

Not only does Vermont Village create great tasting applesauce in so many flavors your head will spin, they are USDA organic. The organic applesauces are available in 24 oz. jars and 4 oz. snack cups – unsweetened and with fresh fruit varieties including Peach, Strawberry Banana, Mixed Berry, Raspberry and Tropical Mango.

The organic apple butter is a sugarless fruit spread that’s great for sandwiches, waffles, crackers or just straight from the jar.

Taking GoGo squeeZ Applesauce on the airplane #giveaway

gogosqueez-logoGoGo squeeZ is a traveling food. It is so easy to grab and go. We received three boxes of GoGO squeeZ to review and it arrived just in time to take on our trip to Texas. I packed them in the diaper bag to take on the airplane and off we went. I have to admit, I was worried that they were going to take it away from me in the security line but they didn’t. They were more concerned about my car seat being dangerous than the applesauce.

I think we ate three different times when we were on the plane and one of the times we ate some of the GoGo SqueeZ applesauce.  I find GoGo squeez great because it is re-sealable. That’s an awesome thing for a child that might not finish their food. I don’t have that option because my kids always finish snack time, especially when it’s fruit. It’s not exactly no-mess, only because my little guy can find a way to make a mess of anything. He’s only 2, well not even 2 but he can get a little carried away while squeezing and exploring, but for the most part this is a mess free way to feed your kids. As long as they don’t over squeeze then they won’t have sticky fingers. My daughter did just fine and she is barely 3.

gogosqueez-appleboxMaterne GoGo SqueeZ  is a favorite fruit snack with over 1 billion pouches consumed internationally. They were released in the US in 2008 to introduce Americans to another convenience; the ability to feed our kids without a mess, without needing a spoon, and without being at home. I think that most snacks that are easy for on the go are not healthy. GoGo SqueeZ is one serving of fruit and supports their mission:

Helping parents feed their kids better foods when they are on the go.

GoGo squeeZ 4-packs are available for MSRP $2.99. GoGo squeeZ single pouches are available for MSRP 99 cents. Consumers can purchase GoGo squeeZ through Whole Foods, the natural section of supermarkets like Stop&Shop, Shaws and Jewel-Osco in select Toys ‘R Us/ Babies’ R US, and other retailers across the US. Currently available in “appleapple”, “applestrawberry” and new “applecinnamon,” “applepeach” and “applebanana” flavors, GoGo squeeZ is a 100 percent fruit, no added sugar product that are sure to keep kids squeezing. New  applecinnamon,” “applepeach” and “applebanana” flavors combine the health benefits of all-natural fruit with a great taste. All GoGo squeeZ  products contain no artificial flavors or preservatives and are gluten-free, dairy-free and kosher-certified.

To winners will each win 5 boxes of GoGo squeeZ applesauce.
