The Green in Me

This week the Parent Bloggers Network has teamed up with SC Johnson’s new product Nature’s Source. They both want to know how I am living more natural.

Two years ago, my husband and I were talking about how the craze on organics was growing. We were so anti-organic you would not believe. I mean, we didn’t have anything good to say about it. In fact we said we loved the taste of our pesticides, because if you have something organic, it really does taste different. It is that “natural” taste that I couldn’t handle.

I had a child!

There is some switch in women that flips when they become a mother. There isn’t a thing in the world I wouldn’t do to protect my child. I started to think about what I was eating. What is my child eating. I started buying organic fruit. I fed it to her, I fed it to myself. I actually liked it now. Yum!. I purchased more.

I had another child!!

Now we are eating organic fruit and vegetables. But what about the chemicals we are cleaning with. The chemical smell of most of them is bothersome. We watch what we clean with, now, we are even more particular. I’m not fully green or fully natural. It has been a very slow process for us to accept that maybe all of these chemicals aren’t so good for us. I find myself inspecting labels and buying recyclable containers. How green can a company be if their own materials are not biodegradable.

Labors of Love

My family is so loving and we have such a great time together. These are my labors of love.

How do I show my family I love them. I love to be a servant. I know, women’s lib and moms should work, and that’s just not me. I really do love to take care of them and be there for them. My job is to show them how much they mean to me. I cook, clean, do their laundry, now I blog for them. Blogging is also for me, but I have had more opportunities reaching out to others because of blogging. Sometimes I get things for me but I try to find opportunities for things for them. I get this craziness from my granny. Everyone thinks I’m just like her and I take that as a compliment. I hope that one day I can give just as easily as she does. She keeps practically nothing fer herself. I still like to complain and wine a bit.

Now, the best part is my children. They are so loving and they are so little. My husband was at the desk this evening after he got home from work, and I went and gave him a big hug. My daughter came over and said, hug daddy, hug daddy, and she threw her arms around him. I almost started crying. It is so special when our kids show their love.

As soon as my husband got home from work my daughter always says hi daddy and today, my son said, love dada. He is 10 months old. Can you imagine how precious this is? It just, another tear up moment is what that was. So tonight was perfect for this post. We all had wonderful hugs and loving.

This week PBN is collaborating with LIFE – the non-profit Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education – to bring some important resources to you. Maybe life insurance doesn’t sound like a romantic gift, but it provides financial protection. You can participate by writing your own post about how you and your family show your love.

Twas a month after Christmas

Twas a month after Christmas, when all through the house
Every creature was stirring, especially my spouse;
The stocking were thrown in the floor without a care
In hopes they would go away and disappear;
The children covered the floor toys all around
While mom had visions of peace and no sound
With Windex in one hand and Oust in the other
I set out to clean and thought “Why Bother?”
When I look at the tree and the lights all a glitter
I yell pack yourself in this box or go find me a babysitter.
Away to the shed I run in a dash
To grab all the boxes before the dust gives me a rash
The clear Zip Lock bags let all my junk show
With lustre and brilliance stacked all in a row
With all the hard work the stacks finally disappear
While I’m thinking Why repeat this next year?
With the joy it brings, so lively and quick
The Glade candles still burning I should cut the wick
The family is happy and oh what a sight
The cleaning is done, I’m sleeping tonight!
The Parent Bloggers Network has started up with the very fun Blog Blasts again. If you could tell by the poem they have teamed up with SC Johnson Right at Home.
To participate this week, blog about how you are cleaning up after Christmas this year.

We had a small family Christmas, we got out the tree, decorations, and lights not too much. Well add on the stockings, dishes, and nick nacks and putting it all away is daunting. I’m not really done. I’m still at the stage of asking it all to put itself away. That’s right, I haven’t even started yet. I’d rather sit on the couch and blog.

I have promised my son I would put it away before his first birthday in March. That is the best I can do.

Coupon Mastery

So today I did it. I got all this for 11.80

Total before coupons was 93.77

This is a Turkey, 2 Dr Peppers, 11 pouches of tuna, 4 packages of sausage, four more fresh packages of sausage, 7 cans of baby food 3 packages of pop tarts, and 1 kit kat. Now this is funny. I had to buy the kit kat so that I could use a 5.00 off 50.00 coupon. I was at 49.79 or something like that so she said I had to buy something else to use the coupon. It was worth it.

How did I do this?
Coupons!!!!
Albertsons, takes competitor coupons. My five dollars off 50 was from the Entertainment book.
I had a 15.00 off turkey coupon from The Parent Bloggers Network, I had 2 free coupons for the Dr. Pepper for buying a turkey, I had 11 1.00 off coupons for the tuna (on sale for 10 for 10). The sausage was on sale for 2 for 5 with a coupon machine giving me 1.00 off coupons, so it ends up 2 for 3. Then each sausage had a coupon for one free fresh package of sausage. I went to Albertsons earlier this week and for buying all of this sausage I got a Catalina coupon for three dollars off. So I got all 8 packages of sausage for 3.00. WOW. I did spend more than I planned on because some of the packages of tuna I purchaesd were not on sale, but I wanted them anyways because they looked like a good flavor. Coupons do work!!!

Handmade Holiday

The Parent bloggers Network has teamed up this week with Klutz. I love Klutz . I love lots of toys. Most of them actually, but Klutz usually come as books that show you how to create something and include the supplies.

They are brightly colored and spiral bound. So much fun.

Check out this special offer from Klutz – free shipping and a free copy of the award-winning Activity Book (a $14.95 value) when you order $50+ via this link. Just click it!

Well, the Parent Bloggers Network wants to know what you do for the holidays to save money? Do you make decorations or make the gifts.

Growing up I made a ton of decorations. I have no idea where they are now. I think the ones that have survived are now on my dad’s tree. Which, they might not even put up a tree this year. My sister and I are both having Christmas with our significant others. For me that means just my family here in WA.

We haven’t made anything yet. Last year I created an ornament for my daughter. I should make one for my son too. That way they both have one.

We’ll see.

I will make my daughter’s birthday cake from scratch. Her birthday is right after the holidays. This is the first time she had anything sweet. This was her first birthday. She loved Christmas and then getting to have cake. Oh man, my little girl just loves food and she knows what chocolate is. ;-) Well enjoy.

Recycling is Twice as Cute

Oh wow there are two separate things I want to blog about in this post, and I’ll show you why they are in the same post before I’m done.

First. Do you remember when i was talking about Smilebooks, Well it gets even better. How about Blurb. This is even better. You can create a 40 page book for 12.95. That is a great price for a photo book you create on your own. I am just really impressed with this and thankful to the Parent Bloggers Network for Showing this to me. You can even turn your blog into a book. WOW.

Two: Blurb and the Parent Bloggers Network are hosting a cute kid costume party contest. I have a costume that we used twice. Last year, my daughter wore it. She was just learning how to crawl. She was so cute. I am entering this into cutest costume under two.

I have another contest, and it is one that I have already posted but it is my favorite picture of the two of them in their costumes this year.

I just love how the two of them are looking at each other. It is so cute to me. So this one is the one I am entering into the Best photo Category. This picture was taken by a local photographer as part of a charity to my MOMS club. She only took five dollars and she only charged us 30 for this shoot and a Christmas shoot we have yet to do.

My final photo is my son in the tiger outfit. Both of my children are very happy children. We are so blessed in life to have these bundles of joy. This one I have having a very hard time picking which category to enter it into. I think I’ll put my little man in the Most creative costume. Now, you may look at it and say; that is not very creative, but if you notice, his costume was his sisters, his socks have some pink in them, they were also his sisters, and his diaper was his sisters. (NO it was not a used diaper, it was just purchased for her over a year ago.)
There are my entries.

Now what are we doing for Halloween. We are having a “trick” or “eat”. We are collecting food for the local food bank. My kids are two young for candy and I certainly don’t need it. We will also be going to one of the local malls with some friends and their son. He is the same age as my daughter so they play sometimes.

Bright Spot in the Dark

We all have things that we just can’t let go of from some special time in our life. I have some dolls from when I was 5 years old. I just can’t give them up. They’ve even been passed down to my sisters and I had to fight to get them back. These are my Rainbow Bright Dolls, that came out in the 80′s.

Just so you know, this is not my entire collection. I have a few more dolls and puzzles in hiding in our storage unit. I have Murky and Starlight. Do you think I’m crazy? Probably so, but at least I’ve been able to give them to my daughter to play with. She was playing with them until she got her Corduroy bear. Now this is her favorite toy.

Do you have anything hidden in a “cave”. I say “cave” because some people have a “man cave”. You know, that man’s domain and he won’t let you get rid of it or something in there. Well you can win a “man cave”. This is sponsored by Billmelater

You can use www.billmelater.com to start your Holiday Shopping. Check them out. You can also check out what is happening over at The Parent Bloggers Network. Have a great weekend.

Saving Time Doesn’t Always Save

When I was pregnant sleep meant everything to me. Let me re-phrase that. While I was pregnant with my second child I would do anything for 20 minutes of sleep. I was also trying to keep my daughter busy.

So we were going around trying to find places to go and things to do. I would get everything ready the night before. I would know where everything was and have directions printed out.

One morning we were all ready to go. I had snacks, sunblock, everything. I went to double check the directions and I laid my wonderful coffee on the table (in a to-go mug). I hear ah-oh. And I look behind me and Zoe had tried to drink my coffee. I don’t know how she didn’t burn herself.

Needless to say, there was coffee all over the floor. I hate being late. I absolutely hate being late. I did everything the night before to save time, and one little thing threw everything out of whack.
What do you do to save time?
What about a package of Ore-Ida Steam n’ Mash potatoes. Save time, by not pealing. This post was written for the Parent Bloggers Network.

Zoo, Farm, Tornados too.

I live in a zoo is just the beginning. My kids are both under two. One of them is walking and you can always tell where she has been by the trail of toys left behind. It’s like when she finds something else she wants to play with one toy gets left behind. Room to room we go where she stops no one knows. Now that my six month old is sitting up, she brings him toys. So they can sit and play together. But when she leaves him that’s when the noise starts. We have crying, or just grunting. Sometimes his screeches sound like chimpanzee. He loves to talk and tries to sound like his sister. She talks well, she tries to talk you can’t understand a word she says but it doesn’t stop her from trying.
We have a dog and she loves to feed him, but every now and then she likes to put her hands in his water dish and try his food. I’m sure it won’t be long before she’s letting her brother try the dog food. That reminds me of the first time she had dog food. She was just crawling found some on the floor and started choking on it. At least she was smart enough to crawl over to mommy and show me something was wrong. Life with kids. I know it won’t be long before she’s swinging from the chandeliers and her brother is hanging on to her feet with glee in his eyes.

I was inspired to write about my zoo adventures from The parent bloggers network. They are having a giveaway for Iknow products. They look really great. A fun way to learn about animals. Cd’s, flash cards, iKnow tv.
