Mom Start Saving with The Coupon Mom Show
The Coupon Mom Show, the new money-saving series from nationally known author, mom and coupon clipper Stephanie Nelson (aka Coupon Mom) teaches real families how to save BIG by sharing her infamous tips and tricks on how to get the biggest bang for your buck without sacrificing quality. My Ultimate Guide to Finding Coupons
From an early age, when I grew up with my parents, I always knew that it was wrong to purchase things at full price. Since I saw my Mom, and Dad use coupons on EVERYTHING, I knew it was just silly to go purchase something for full price, because I knew I could get a great deal. Today, I want to show you how you can save more than 10-20% on your purchase every time. Let me walk you step by step on how you should purchase something online.
Get the right price: Before you even start shopping, you should know what you have in mind. Don’t just head to a store for the fun of it, and purchase. Instead, you’ll want to find the best price possible on that product. You’ll want to use something such as PriceGrabber.com that will find the best price across the board. Use this to your advantage.
Have a cash back account: If you’re not earning cash back on your purchases, you’ll want to start doing this immediately. You can sign up with companies such as Ebates.com, FatWallet, or my personal favorite, Bank of America’s AdditUp. AdditUp is my favorite because they put the cash back savings right into your savings account, and they also offer some of the best rates possible in terms of cash back.
What is a cash back account?
Let me touch on this really quick. Let’s say that you wanted to purchase something from Sears. What you’ll do is log into your account, look for sears, and see how much you’re going to get back. With Bank of America, I would get 6% of my purchase back. I’ll click on the link, and do my shopping.
Browse for coupon codes: Coupons are everywhere, and no matter what you’re buying, you’re going to be able to save. Before you ever buy something online, make sure you always look for coupon codes. A simple Google search, such as “(company name) coupon codes” will suffice. When you do this search though, make sure you look at the recent results on Google, to ensure that you get fresh results.
Buy your coupons: If you’re extremely patient like me, you can buy your coupons. This sounds silly, doesn’t it? Let me explain though. You’re going to want to head to eBay, and search for coupons. I’ve searched for everything, and anything, and there’s always a coupon! Bid on it, but make sure you’re not paying too much, and wait for it to arrive.
Get a cash back credit card: Credit cards aren’t evil. You can save money with them, especially if you have a rewards card. For example, my Chase card will give me 1%-3% back on my purchases. As long as you pay your bill off in full, you can take full advantage. Make sure that you make your purchases with a card like this at the checkout. If you want, you can always bill pay the card right away, so that you don’t forget.
How I saved just the other day…
My nephew the other day wanted some clothes from American Eagle. Since I couldn’t really do the PriceGrabber.com thing, I was able to still get a great deal. First off, I bought him 2 pairs of jeans. They were both marked at $39.50, for a total of $79. I headed off to eBay, bought a $50 gift card for $47.50, with free shipping. I then was able to find a 15% off my purchase, with free shipping. After the 15% was applied, it brought my total down to $67.15. I already saved $2.50 with the gift card.
Here’s how it breaks down…
· $79 x 15% off = $67.15
· $50 gift card for $47.50 off eBay = $2.50 savings
· $67.15 – 4% with Bank of America ($2.69) = $64.46
· $64.46 – $2.50 (gift card savings) = $61.96
Now, if I wouldn’t have done this, I would have paid $79, plus shipping, which would have brought my purchase to $80+. As you can see, with some patience, and research, I was able to save $20+ off 2 pairs of jeans. I’m hoping this guide works for you, and I’m hoping that you can save big bucks as well. Good luck!

Second, My Parent Rewards sent me a card to review. The problem about the card is that you have to have it on you to use it. I mean, coupons are the same way you have to have them with you to use them. I went to Arby’s tonight and now that I’m home and looking at the site, I’m thinking good grief, I could have saved 5.00. Use the card four or five times and you’ve paid for the card.
After looking at all of the options for the discounts they seem to be pretty good. You can save 20 percent at some stores and 10 percent on others. Some offers offer you a free item with purchase and others offer you half off with purchase. You can print coupons from their site, but I would still print them from Mypoints because I get points for all of the coupons printed. You can also shop on-line from their site and they have coupon codes listed. It’s a great place to “save everyday” at one single location. Examples of locations included.
McDonalds, Subway, Arby’s, Quiznos, Dunkin’ Donuts, Burger King, Domino’s Pizza, El Pollo Loco, Marble Slab, Baskin Robbins, Cinnabon, Little Caesars, Sears, Ann Taylor, and many more, you can get a small preview on-line by entering your zipc ode.

Mom Start Saving: Get points for printing coupons at MyPoints
October 25, 2009 · Filed Under Mom Start Saving · 13 CommentsAnother way I save money and earn money at the same time is by printing my coupons at MyPoints. MyPoints is a site where you can earn points in quite a few different ways. Points can then be redeemed for gift cards at quite a few different locations. There really are 1000 of places to get gift cards from and you get all the great deals e-mailed to your inbox.
One, I am a buzz agent and I get free products in exchange for sharing buzz about the products. Then when I go back and fill out a report about all the buzz I shared I get 50 points for every time and then it is transferred to MyPoints.
Two, I get e-mails every day about three a day and for each click I get 5 points so that’s about 15 points a day. Sometimes I get more and sometimes I get less. Most of the time though I only click all of them on Sunday. I have a hard time getting through my e-mail because of my blog so MyPoints e-mails sometimes just get deleted.
They also send out surveys which would be number three for me but I get way to busy with everything in my life so I hardly ever do the surveys. You can do the profile surveys and get points that way too.
They also have a referral point system but I can’t ever remember my referral id so I hardly get points that way.
So thirdly for me. I get points for printing coupons and then I get points for redeeming them too. It’s nice that you get points for both.
Fourthly, I earn points by making purchases. I purchase entertainment books through mypoints and other things from time to time. I’m currently working towards a 50.00 Amazon.com gift card.
Points can also be earned by downloading their search bar and doing searches every month but I think it slows down my browser more than I like so I don’t use it. It is the fastest way other than making purchases to earn points on my points though.
I just noticed tonight that they have the frogpond at MyPoints. By visiting a certain site that they provide then coming back to my points and filling out a survey and sharing your opinion you can earn 25 points.
Now so you have an idea about how much points are worth.
1.00 = 140 points roughly

Mom Start Saving Money for the Holidays
In the current economic times, which is still pretty low, people need to be thinking about Christmas and how they are going to pay for it. I’m sure some families will have to get a payday advance and that still might not be enough. Other families may just decide not to get any presents but there are things you can do to make sure that you have money for the holidays. You can get cheap presents with just a little more effort.I look around me and realize how lucky my family and I are but even we still have to plan for Christmas. We have a budget and we only spend what is in our budget every month. That includes heating costs, clothing, groceries and extras. We even put aside a little money every month into our savings account. Here are a few tricks that I recommend for everyone.
Pay your bills on time, I know it can be difficult for some families but if you organize your bills and everything you are spending money on. I mean everything, keep a journal. All the fees and credit problems that are associated with paying something late are making you pay so much more than you need to.
Turn off recurring bills. If things really are tight consider cutting certain bills out. I know most people don’t want to sacrifice cable, but my family is. We don’t use cable so we don’t pay for it. Many families including my parents are cutting their land lines. I mean who wants a home phone that is just solicitors anyway?
Use Coupons, if you have been reading Mom Start Saving regularly then you know that there are a ton of sites out there that have on-line coupon codes. All you need to do is find them and use them. Even toy companies are printing coupons. Just this week in the Smart Source there were two different coupons for Playskool toys. One of them was for 10.00 off of a Sit and Spin and they are selling at Target for 20.00. That’s getting a toy for half price. Hasbro, Fisher Price, Playskool all have coupons for toys right now, on-line and in print.
Set money aside all year round. There are plenty of ways that you can save money all year round and gain interest on it. You could just put 5.00 away a month, now I know that’s only 60.00 at the end of the year but that could be used for 3 presents if you put a cap of 20.00 on each gift.
Use Credit Card Rewards programs. We use our credit card for every purchase. So we earn points that we can redeem for cash. Even in places like Fred Meyer, I’ll use my credit card, then we are getting Fred Meyer points and credit card points.
Sign up for Points Everywhere. Most stores have points programs now so make sure you find out what they are and how to take advantage of them. You can earn gift cards, coupons, free items. I have earned 40.00 at the Children’s place with their points programs and I get clothes from them off of the dollar rack at their outlet store.
Save your receipts. This is still one I’m trying to work on because I need to get more organized. I always find a rebate after I buy something and I feel like that’s such a waste because I didn’t have the receipt to send in with the rebate form. Also, you’ll be surprised at what you’re going to want to claim on your taxes.
Sell stuff you aren’t using anymore. You can make some quick cash by selling book and DVD’s at half price books. You can also use Half.com Amazon.com Ebay and Craigslist. Ebay is great because sometimes people just get caught up in a bidding war and end up paying more than something is worth.
Re-gift and tell people no. I know it feels like the end of the world when you can’t buy presents. I was there in college and I still felt bad. You can re-gift as long as you follow certain manners in the process. You can always make homemade gifts and those are always loved the most and often kept the longest. You can also always use the word no. I’m sorry, I can’t get you that for Christmas.
