Captain Marvel Set Visit #CaptainMarvel

March 7, 2019 by Momstart Leave a Comment

It never gets old.

It never gets old.IMG_0472

It Never Gets OLD!

I can’t express how lucky I’ve been in life. Visiting the set of Captain Marvel reminds me of the spectacular things that are possible with a dream. Marvel is a dream. Captain Marvel is a dream for women. Captain Marvel is above spectacular. Captain Marvel is going to save the world, the Marvel World. image

I won’t pretend to know things that I don’t know. I haven’t seen the movie, all I’ve seen are behind the scenes and the same footage that all of you have seen. I’ve watched and re-watched all the footage, I’ve watched all the conspiracy theories. Some of you may have seen a screening and know a few things. From reactions, I hear this movie is going to be fantastic.

All I know, is the set was fantastic.

IMG_0471We walked on the ship and it was larger than life. It’s really amazing how much work goes into making something look real. In a way it was real. This  is the spot where Captain Marvel was hanging upside down. It’s called a Mind Fracker. See where my hips are, that where my head should be. Maybe next time, I can hang by a wire and actually have my mind fracked!IMG_0470

They talked about each step in the set building. You could tell that some of it was brand new because you could smell that fresh wood scent.

We also ran into Samuel L. Jackson on set. He was reading a book in between shooting a scene and set up for the next scene. While we were talking to Brie Larson, he snuck up behind us and joined our photo. He also talked to use a bit. He seemed really interested in our blogging careers. My like for him went up two-fold and I already liked him a lot.

image

Now I can’t wait to see the movie and learn how each part of the set fits into the movie!!

Captain Marvel is in theaters tomorrow, March 8th!!

Strong Women Of Marvel: Evangeline Lilly

July 2, 2018 by Momstart Leave a Comment

Disney provided hotel and transportation to LA for the Ant-Man and the Wasp Press Event. At the Ant-Man and The Wasp Press Event we reviewed the Ant-Man and The Wasp while also interviewing the characters from the movie. One of those amazing Ant-Man and The Wasp interviews was with Evangeline Lilly who gave us the best quotes as her answers to our questions were strong and inspiring. She is the epitome of strength and poise and exactly what Hollywood needs right now.

Evangeline Lilly

Evangeline Lilly Quotes:

We talked about how strong her character, The Wasp is in Ant-Man and the Wasp. She is very centric to the theme and storyline. We accused her of doing all the heavy lifting in the movie. She gave plenty of credit to Paul Rudd and to her team of stunt doubles while also mentioning the CGI team. But she did accept that her character is a big deal.

“Marvel is just absolutely hell bent and passionate right now about representing women as fierce and capable and as equals to men.”

image

Michelle Pfeiffer

She talked more about being a super hero and she talked about how inspired she was by Michelle Pfeiffer“

“I used to fantasize about being Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman.”

It was one of the only strong female characters from a super hero movie. She remembered how her sisters and she would pretend to be Spiderman or Batman as they were playing, but now girls have more super heroes to look up to. She even said that there is a reversal because now boys can also pretend to be one of the strong female characters. She said her son likes to pretend to be The Wasp and “this is no small thing”.

image

She then talked about working with Michelle Pfeiffer. She set up the story by mentioned how we as press, we can be obsessed with a certain actor, or think very highly of someone then when we get the chance to interview them and meet them, we find that they are much less than we thought they were. Which I have experienced. Michelle was perfection.

“She’s perfect, like, there’s no flaws. She’s nice. She’s generous. She’s smart. She’s funny. She’s intelligent. She’s considerate. She’s talented, and of course, she is the hottest sixty-something or however old she is you’re ever gonna meet. And so playing her daughter was an incredible honor, and also, I had to just bite my tongue, ’cause every day, I wanted to just be like, “Can you be my mentor?”

Michael Douglas

She compared that to Michael Douglas and how she was ignorant of him. Meaning, she didn’t follow his career or know much about him. She knew he was a big name but that was it, and then when she worked with him she turned her attitude around.

image

“I started working with him and was like, “Oh. Whoa.” He’s so good. He’s such a charismatic, present, powerful human being that when he starts to perform, he just changes the molecules of the room. You’re suddenly transported to the place you’re pretending to be, and so when I read the script for the second film, and I found out that I was going to get an enormous amount of work with him, and that we would be like, super close and super…tactile and loving and like, we were partners after the really difficult journey that we went through in the first film?”

Strong Women Of Marvel

The theme of the day while talking with Evangeline Lilly was for sure about strong women. She would love to be in a movie of just the female avenger characters. Her favorite Marvel Female character is Okoye. She said one of her favorite moments in Avengers Infinity War was when Scarlet Witch was trapped and alone, Okoye showed up and said, “But she’s not alone.” Evangeline said that literally, in the theater at the premiere in her gown she said, image

“Fuck Yeah!”

The Wasp

We talked about her strength as a Marvel Character again. She talked about how important it was to her that she doesn’t bulk up.

I wanted to show that we are strong because of our femininity, not in spite of it.

The Way the Wasp moves in some of the scenes is like a dance. She is able to weave in and out of spots because of how agile females are. She didn’t want a rock hard body to be visible, she wanted her character to be strong while also being emotional and vulnerable. She wanted grace and elegance to shine through. It’s like ballet.

On Paul Rudd

imageAnother thing I really wanted to mention is how excited she was to work with Paul Rudd.

“No, I don’t really want to do a superhero movie. That doesn’t appeal to me.” Because I didn’t like superhero movies, because I’d never really seen Marvel’s superhero movies. It’s a totally — I mean, he was like, “Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. Hear me out, hear me out, hear me out, um, so they’re gonna use — they’re gonna cast Paul Rudd in the lead.” And I was like, “Hold the phone, wait, what? Paul Rudd’s gonna be a superhero? I’m in! Whatever they’re doing, it’s ridiculous, and I love it.” And it wasn’t as simple as that.”

Evangeline Lilly is always a pleasure to interview. She has so much excitement and energy and passion. You can really tell that she loves what she does and she truly believes in the power of women. You can see the power of The Wasp in theaters July 6th.

Power Mom Of Marvel: Victoria Alonso

April 30, 2018 by Momstart Leave a Comment

Disney provided hotel and transportation to LA for us to attend the Avengers Infinity War Premiere.

775139984CC00284_Los_Angele

HOLLYWOOD, CA – APRIL 23: (L-R) Marvel Studios Executive Vice President of Physical Production Victoria Alonso, actor Tom Hiddleston, President of Marvel Studios and Producer Kevin Feige, Mark Ruffalo, and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy attend the Los Angeles Global Premiere for Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War on April 23, 2018 in Hollywood, California. (Photo by Rich Polk/Getty Images for Disney) *** Local Caption *** Mark Ruffalo; Kathleen Kennedy; Tom Hiddleston; Kevin Feige; Victoria Alonso

Avengers: Infinity War is now in theaters and is in perfect position to break all kinds of box office records starting with the highest domestic opening of $250 Million and $630 Million World Wide. While we were in LA, we had the opportunity to sit down with one of the founders of Marvel Studios, Victoria Alonso. Marvel is celebrating 10 years of successful movies that lead up to this epic movie known as Avengers Infinity War and Victoria has been there through it all. She said Avengers Infinity War was her 18th and that there are 5 more in the works. I can’t even wrap my mind around that.

image

We asked Victoria what she does day to day and it seems like her days are always different. With 23 movies in the works, she has her hand in a bit of everything (costumes, sets, effects, writers, actors)  and where I would see a challenge she sees a hurdle. She said, “I don’t know about challenges. I don’t see them as challenges. I just see it as day-to-day hurdle” She went on further to say that it’s about changing your dynamic and how we see things. We need to “jump over and go” and not let challenges stop us. It’s this go to attitude I believe that makes her the successful business woman and fantastic mother at the same time.

Victoria Alonso came across as a very caring and loving individual. She made all of us cry when she told us which scenes in Avengers Infinity War moved her. I cried more listening to her talk than I did actually watching Avengers Infinity War. I was also inspired by how she talked about her daughter and how once you have a child, then you truly know what love is. You know you would die for them to keep them safe. We asked her to also tell us if being a mother influences any of the decisions made in the movies. She said that she is always asking about the violence. Like is that stab necessary or do we need to see that blood? Which led to the surprising fact that she is not a comic book fan. I was so surprised to hear that, but I think it’s something that makes the movies stronger because her perspective is different. She can watch a movie on the cutting floor and say, I’m bored. Try again.

775139984CC00311_Los_Angele

HOLLYWOOD, CA – APRIL 23: (L-R) Actor Danai Gurira, Marvel Studios Executive Vice President of Physical Production Victoria Alonso, and actor Letitia Wright attend the Los Angeles Global Premiere for Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War on April 23, 2018 in Hollywood, California. (Photo by Charley Gallay/Getty Images for Disney) *** Local Caption *** Victoria Alonso; Danai Gurira; Letitia Wright

We also asked her for advice on how to set up our children for success. For example what should they do if they wanted to have a job like hers one day. Basically she said to encourage them to find their passion and to follow that. They need to find what their heart is and follow it. She also said that for us to raise strong girls we need to believe we are strong too. We have to believe in our core that we as woman are equal to men in all ways. She also said to show our children the world. She said that we should inspire them with stories, with art, with music. We need to show our children the differences of this world and that the world is better together.

One final thing I want to share with you from the interview with Victoria Alonso is how Marvel is leading the charge in changing things for women in the corporate world. Victoria took her daughter to work three days a week for 18 months. And she encourages other parents to do the same. She also allows mothers to take parental leave and they come back just as they were. They don’t lose any time or position because they went away. They are not passed over. Also, if someone needs to go home at 5 or whatever for family then they are allowed to. She still expects work to get done but she feels that people are more likely to get their work done because of these things she allows them to do. People are happier and more productive. Changes are also coming in the movies. Women are getting better characters. A character in Ant Man and the Wasp was a man in the comics and will be a black woman in the movie. “And like that is gonna be change after change. And it’s not as earth-rocking as Black Panther perhaps was, but every little change is gonna create something that will allow for our girls and our boys to be identified and be included. “

What The Marvel Avengers: Infinity War Red Carpet Was Like

April 26, 2018 by Momstart Leave a Comment

Disney invited me to attend the red carpet premiere of Avengers Infinity War and paid for hotel and transportation. And we get to bring you What The Marvel Avengers: Infinity War Red Carpet Was Like.

775139984GB00001_Los_Angele

Wow, I knew when Marvel did things they did things big. For Marvel’s Avengers Infinity War they played the movie in three different theaters all at one time. So 4,000 people were in attendance at the Marvels Avengers Infinity War. It was an amazing event and even being a VIP there was a line because it’s Hollywood and everyone is a VIP in Marvel.

image

775139984KI00035_Los_Angele

We arrived at the Avengers Infinity Red Carpet Premiere and found the beautiful carpet to be a deep purple and it made for great photos. Oh and there were two different entrances so we didn’t really get to goggle at the actors this time as we walked down the purple runway.

image

Instead, we walked into a tent that was full of all the costumes the avengers have worn over the years, that’s 10 years of costumes. So of course i took pictures of as many of them as I could have. Take a look:

image

imageimageimage

image

image

imageimageThen I had the most epic photo taken:

image

And then, after we watched the Avengers Infinity War movie we attended the Marvel Avengers Infinity War after party. This is the first time that press has been allowed to go to the after party. It was full of A-list actors. I’m not the type to walk up to them and talk to them or anything. I don’t have the nerve plus I’m too worried they don’t want to be bothered. But I admired a few from afar.

Avengers Infinity War is in theaters 4/27. Go see it as soon as possible so you don’t run into any Avengers Infinity War Spoilers.

Premiere photos courtesy of Marvel.

The film opens 4/27. And can be seen is select theaters starting tonight.

The Excitement Of Avengers Infinity War and Marvel Special Effects

April 19, 2018 by Momstart 1 Comment

Disney has invited us out to be part of the crazy adventure in LA this next week that involves the Red Carpet Premiere of Avengers: Infinity War. SQUEEEEEE

Avengers Infinity War Title Image

Marvel doesn’t do anything small. This is going to be EPIC, and different from my other trips.

We get to do something amazing, something we’ve never done before. More about that in a second, first let’s talk about the anticipation that is Avengers: Infinity War…… OMG

avengers-infinity-war-poster

Everyone that is anyone has to have seen the movies leading up to this one, and even if you’ve missed one you can’t miss this one, this two part movie is surly going to have one of the biggest cliff hangers ever. I have a feeling, at the end of this movie we won’t know who is dead or alive, or we won’t know if anyone else is going to die. Surely Avengers Infinity War is going to leave us wanting more, and we’ll have to wait. So let’s review, what has led up to this…..

Iron Man
The Incredible Hulk
Iron Man 2
Thor
Captain America: The First Avenger
Marvel’s The Avengers
Iron Man 3
Thor: The Dark World
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Guardians of the Galaxy
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Ant-Man
Captain America: Civil War
Doctor Strange
Spider-man: Homecoming
Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2
Thor: Ragnarok
Black Panther

Each movie growing the Marvel franchise’s popularity. They have mastered the art of making a family super hero film and I love it. My kids love it we have easily become a Marvel family. So I know you will be going to the theater April 27th.

Now, what I’m really excited about is learning all about the special effects. We will be speaking with Victoria Alonso, EVP of Visual Effects and Post-Production of Marvel Studios. I can’t wait to delve into the special effects and find out her thoughts on the importance of STEM. Have you seen our latest STEM product reviews?quantico-new-season-abc-network

Ok, and we will be meeting with ABC too! ABC’s show Quantico is entering Season 3, and no you don’t have to start watching at Season 1 if you haven’t been watching this fun show. It’s sort of going to be like the show is starting over. It will make sense once we see Season 3 episode 1. Then we will have a Q&A with Executive Producer and Showrunner Michael Seitzman and Marlee Matlin (“Jocelyn Turner”). What would you have me ask?

Also will be a fun meeting with Marvel’s products team and some fun information for Black Panther and it’s Blu-ray release. SO STAY TUNED!!!
