Family Fun Celebrating National Donut Day With Entenmann’s

The coupons for product redemption, information, and gift card have been provided by Entenmann’s so that I could try the product and share my thoughts and information about Entenmann’s. The opinions expressed in this post are my own and do not reflect the opinions of Entenmann’s.

Did you know that National Donut Day is coming up this Friday, June 7th? Our family loves donuts – in fact, we even had a heart-shaped “Donut wall” at our wedding! I will always have fond memories of watching our flower girls run around eating donuts before the ceremony. Since donuts are synonymous with family fun for us, we naturally had to put together a National Donut Day celebration with a little help from our pals at Entenmann’s!

Entenmann’s Donuts

In honor of National Donut Day, we picked up a few packages of our favorite Entenmann’s donuts and took them over to Grandma’s house. We enjoyed an afternoon of tasty donuts, a game of Rummy-O, and a lot of laughs!

The flavor you'll go nuts for!

The flavor you’ll go nuts for!

Another favorite activity in our family is entering sweepstakes, as you may already know if you follow my adventures over on Contest Corner. So I’m super pumped about the Entenmann’s Fan Flavor Challenge & Sweepstakes! In honor of National Donut Day, Entenmann’s is looking for the next great donut flavor – and it might be created by you! Through June 14th, Entenmann’s fans can use the “Flavor Maker” on their website to create their own fabulous donut flavor. Choose a base, flavor, glaze, and a topping, then name your creation and submit it along with a little summary about what makes you an Entenmann’s donut fan. Each “Challenge Entry” will be reviewed by a panel of judges based on originality, passion and creativity. There are fab prizes up for grabs, including $5,000, a year’s supply of donuts, and a chance to have your donut creation made during the 2019 holiday season! And if that wasn’t enough, you’ll also have the chance to share the news about your donut creation on Facebook or Twitter to receive one entry into the bonus sweepstakes for a $1,000 prize and a year’s supply of donuts!

Entering the Entenmann’s Fan Flavor Challenge & Sweepstakes

Being the “Sweeper” that I am, I naturally hopped on my computer and got to work creating my own donut masterpiece! The donut I created is chocolate with Irish Creme glaze, topped with pink and rainbow sprinkles, which I named “Mom’s Treat” in honor of this blog. I chose the flavor and glaze because I think chocolate and Irish Creme is the perfect treat for busy moms at the end of a long day! The sprinkles are in tribute to my love of pink and bright colors. I hope this donut gets made someday just so I can eat it myself! 😉

Married, with donuts

From our family to ours, we wish you a happy National Donut Day and good luck in the Entenmann’s Fan Flavor Challenge & Sweepstakes! Here’s all the links you’ll need to enter:

Uncovering Lost Family Moments: Converting my Super 8 Home Movie With iMemories

iMemories converting a Super 8 movie into digital

Converting a Super 8 movie into digital – photo credit: iMemories

Thank you to iMemories for preserving my family memories and sponsoring this post!

As an “Elder Millennial”, I came of age at a very unique point in technological development. I learned to write on a typewriter, but composed all my articles on a computer just a few years later. When I was 12, I referred to our set of encyclopedias for information; when I was 17, Wikipedia launched. I also remember a time when you could leave the house without anyone being able to call you! And another telltale sign of my Millennial status? There is a lot less photographic documentation of my life. Don’t get me wrong, my parents took lots of photos – you know, on film cameras! – but pictures used to be something you took during a special occasion, not as a daily occurrence. And while our phones are now filled with videos of the most mundane activities, there are no videos of my childhood at all – except one.

When I was a toddler, my Mom knew someone who had a Super 8 camera and asked them to take a home movie of me. As a young family on a tight budget, my parents didn’t have a Super 8 projector at the time, but Mom thought it would be a great thing to have down the line. Super 8 became obsolete not too long afterwards, so we never did get a projector, and the film sat in storage for many years; none of us had ever seen it, but Mom knew it would come in handy one day.

She was absolutely right, but for different reasons than she anticipated. After my Mom passed away unexpectedly when I was 19, I inherited all the family photos and came across the film for the first time. When my Dad explained what was on it, I realized there was a good chance that my mom might would be on the footage, which made it so much more important than just looking at my baby photos.

Ever since I found the film, my husband and I have been keeping an eye out for Super 8 projectors at thrift stores, but they’re hard to come by. And the process of trying to convert and view the film myself made me really nervous: What if I try to play it and the film gets chewed up or burnt? What if I buy the wrong projector? After all, this movie was filmed in England before we immigrated to the US – would it even play on an American Super 8 projector? I wasn’t even sure until recently whether this was a Super 8 film or a regular 8mm film – they may sound like the same thing, but Super 8 and 8mm are two different formats requiring different projectors. Because of this, the home movie has sat in storage for the past 16 years, waiting until I figured out a way to watch it.

When I discovered iMemories, I knew immediately that I had found the solution. iMemories are a full-service digital conversion company based in Scottsdale, Arizona. They pride themselves on digitizing every format, from 8mm movie films and VHS tapes to slides, negatives and more. Here’s how it works: You mail your home movies and photos to their state-of-the-art facility, where they convert it to digital and then mail the originals back to you. Since iMemories handles such a wide range of now-obsolete formats, I thought they would be the best choice for converting my precious family movie.

To start the process, iMemories sent me their SafeShip Kit, which is currently on sale for $14.99. This kit includes a pre-paid shipping label and special packing materials to make sure your memories are protected and waterproof. You can also mail your items in using your own shipping supplies if you prefer not to order a SafeShip Kit, but given that this film is the only one of its kind, I wanted to make sure it was expertly packed and handled!

Assembling my package was simple: First, I dug my Super 8 film out of storage.

Next, I used the included waterproof bags and shock resistant bubble cushions to carefully secure the film. The waterproof bags ended up being important, because I dropped my package off at the UPS shipping center during a bout of pouring Oregon rain!

Handling this fragile home movie made me nervous, so I really appreciated how simple iMemories made it to protect and pack my film. The instructions that come in the SafeShip Kit are very clearly laid out and easy to follow. Knowing that the iMemories facility has a team of 200 people doing thousands of digital conversions every day made me feel secure that my priceless memories were in the best possible hands. This process is a mystery to most people, and it can make one understandably nervous to hand off such important items. So to help demystify the process for our readers in this post, iMemories actually took photos of the entire process of converting my film from start to finish, in order to show the journey my home movie took after it arrived at iMemories headquarters!

Once your memories have been converted, you can opt to just download your digital files, or you can create custom products from your files such as a DVD or thumb drive. I opted for a DVD, so that was included in my package when I received my original film back safe and sound. I was so delighted by the DVD, which features stills from my home movie on the cover. This would make such an awesome gift, and you can add a DVD to your order for just $9.99, so it’s definitely something I would recommend doing.

My iMemories order

My iMemories order

iMemories updates you via email in real time as your clips become available to view online through iMemories apps for iPhone, iPad, Android, PC and Mac, so you don’t have to wait until you receive a DVD or your originals back to watch the conversion! As soon as my movie was ready to watch, I received a message letting me know that it could be found in my secure iMemories account. Finally, after all these years, I was going to discover what was on this footage. Would I see my mom on the film? Where was the home movie taken? I had absolutely no idea; this would be the first time anyone had ever seen this family movie.

If you’re an Elder Millennial like me, you will marvel at the contrast of how our childhood home movies have the same film quality as the Zapruder footage, while our current home movies are shot in Ultra HD 4k on an iPhone!

The movie comprised of three short segments: One taken at a local park in Peterborough, England where I used to play; a clip filmed inside our home; and a portion filmed in the back garden. Based on how old I am in the film, I’d say this was taken roughly around 1985. I was completely blown away by the movie: Both my mom and dad are filmed alongside me, and it’s crazy to see these places I remember just as they were – a still image doesn’t really capture the feeling of seeing life in action. I have distinct memories of all the places shown in this film, including the slide shown at the park – I actually have a scar on my forehead from that very slide, which I got on a different occasion where another child pushed me down on its metal steps…

It was powerful enough to watch footage of my mom for the first time after so many years, but even more amazing to me is the moment that was captured. As I swing on the swings with my mom and run through the park with my dad, the joy on our faces is so clear. My mom looks so vibrant and happy – the way I would always like to remember her. Watching this was very profound for me and left a deep impact on me for some time after first watching it.

Losing a parent young is always tough, and the circumstances can make it hard to hang on to those memories of happier times. The 16th anniversary of my mom’s passing is coming up the same week as Mother’s Day, and this year, I feel like I have been given a wonderful gift with this footage. I never really talk about this publicly because I’m a very private person, but it just wouldn’t feel right to write about this service while glossing over its importance to me. This is more than just a cute little family movie or a cool product; this is something that carries deep meaning for me, and will be very special to my Dad and the rest of our family. I’m so grateful that my mom, being smart and resourceful as she always was, thought to have this movie taken; and I’m so grateful that I finally got to see it.

Since I’m anxious to send this film to everyone who loves and remembers my mom, I’m especially appreciative of just how easy iMemories make it to share your finished product. If you want to simply download your files or email them directly to people from you iMemories account, you can absolutely do that; but to make it much quicker and simpler, I would recommend purchasing one month of iMemories Cloud storage for $5.99. This is the easiest way to instantly share with your family, as it allows you to provide your loved ones with a direct link to view the video on the iMemories website and download it to their own computer directly from there. It also has one-click buttons built in to share the video to Facebook and Twitter. This is great for me, because some people in my life will want to watch the movie on Facebook, while others in the family don’t use social media and will need it emailed or text messaged to them in order to view it. Since I can send them straight to the iMemories website, I don’t have to worry about uploading it to a third-party storage website or going over email attachment limits. Click here to view my home movie on the iMemories website and see how easy it makes it to watch and share videos instantly!

The world has changed a lot, so if you’re an Elder Millennial stuck in between technologies and not sure how to even watch your old home movies, iMemories provides the perfect solution. It’s also an ideal service to help our parents and grandparents preserve their special moments – no technical know-how needed. And while I had assumed that video conversion would be expensive, I was shocked to discover what a bargain iMemories offers. You’ll always receive a free quote after mailing your SafeShip Kit to iMemories, so there’s no surprises or unexpected charges; the conversion of my entire Super 8 movie came to a mere $12.99. I was stunned by how inexpensive this was! I couldn’t buy a Super 8 projector for that, never mind the equipment to hook it into the computer and edit it – not to mention the experience needed to do so effectively! iMemories use state-of-the-art equipment that incorporates modern HD camera technology and LED lighting to bring these memories to life, which no one could replicate at home for $12.99. And even if you have a Super 8 projector and know how to use it, film has a limited lifespan, so having these precious films backed up makes sure that they will always be around – because as us Millennials have learned the hard way, the Internet is forever! 😉

I couldn’t think of a better Mother’s Day tribute to my own Mom than this video. Converting your precious family moments with iMemories is a wonderful gift idea for any Mom or Grandma this Mother’s Day, so I highly recommend visiting iMemories.com or following along on the iMemories Facebook and Instagram pages to learn how you can transform life’s precious moments into a gift that will be treasured forever.

Pin it For Later!

I created this handy step-by-step graphic showing how to prepare your family mementos to send to iMemories, so you can Pin this to your gift idea boards and refer back to it when you’re ready to order! No need to be intimidated by the idea of converting your old movies and photos to digital – all it takes is a few simple steps!

The Oregon Zoo: Your Family Holiday Destination

December 22, 2018 by Beeb Leave a Comment

ZooLights
Thank you to the Oregon Zoo for hosting my family and I!

This weekend is your last opportunity to see ZooLights at the Oregon Zoo before Christmas! If you want a magical night that provides fun for the whole family, head on down to the Oregon Zoo this weekend. Our family went to ZooLights a couple of years back and I can’t wait to experience it again!

Chilled out

The Oregon Zoo is the perfect place to meet up and connect with your loved ones. Over Labor Day weekend, my aunt from Montana came to the Pacific Northwest to visit her daughter who lives in Washington State. Her granddaughter also happens to live in Portland, so the Oregon Zoo was a great location for us to all rendezvous – especially since this was her one-year-old great-grandchild’s first-ever visit to a zoo!

Quack

So cute

Visiting the zoo with family provides so much entertainment for the whole group. There’s so much to see and enjoy, yet it’s the perfect setting to be able to connect with your loved ones, chat and catch up while you walk the grounds. And the kids won’t get bored of sitting around while the grownups talk, since they’ll be delighting in all the animals and activities just for little ones!

Through the eyes of a child

Seeing the wonder of a small child being exposed to new sights and animals for the first time is always very special. Even as an adult, watching these majestic creatures is just awe-inspiring. And the Oregon Zoo’s focus on conservation and education is crucial for young and old alike.

Species survival

One can’t-miss spot for families is the petting zoo. As MomStart’s resident rabbit lover, I must point out that the petting zoo is home to soft, sweet, and adorable BUNNIES!

BUNNIES!!!

BUNNIES!!!

And the buns weren’t the only fun friends we met at the petting zoo:

Tortoise

Goats

Baaaaa

Our family had a day to remember at the Oregon Zoo. I actually just got a Christmas card from my aunt where she specifically mentioned our zoo trip and thanked me for taking her there – so if you want to create lasting memories with your loved ones, I highly recommend it! Whether you have family traveling in from out of state or just want a fun spot to meet up with your local crew, the Oregon Zoo is the perfect destination to spend quality time. It offers something for all ages, and just gets even more magical this time of year. If your Christmas spirit needs a little pumping up, this will definitely do the trick!

Cheetah

ZooLights runs through January 5th, with the exception of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, when it will be closed for the holiday. For details on hours and tickets, visit OregonZoo.org.

Planning Your Next Family-Friendly Vacation at Palm Springs

October 16, 2018 by Momstart Leave a Comment

clip_image002

Settled prosperously at the base of Mt. San Jacinto, this place is famous for its perennial sunshine, beautiful landscapes, palm stress and of course the architecture. Hollywood stars such as Sinatra, Sonny Bono, and Bob Hope made their residential houses here. Amongst the contemporary stars, we have DiCaprio and Eastwood following their predecessors’ footsteps in settling down here at Palm Springs. Many people are under the impression that Palm Springs is not a great spot for a family vacation, but unfortunately, they are completely unaware of the fact that this place can be perfect for a family retreat. From its glorious art installation to aeroplane museums, this place has family-friendly activities lying all over itself. Palm Springs is easy to reach as it is just a two-hour long drive from LA or San Diego. Get yourself checked in one of the many rental homes in Palm Springs to get your adventure started.

Living Desert Zoo

Families love the zoo and the kids are often fascinated by the number of animals they can see in one place. The living desert that stretches to almost 1200 acre of land is a zoo cum botanical garden. Ranging from different kinds of cacti to a big section for desert foliage, you can expect a rich variety of plants in the botanical section. When it comes to biodiversity this place doesn’t lack any since it is home to numerous species of animals from North America to Africa. Some of the animals are birds, giraffes, lizards, zebras et al. If the heat is too intense and unbearable, visit the animal hospital for a quick tour. If you are tired of walking around the park, hitchhike a tram ride to go around the park. You can expect workshops and other activities if you arrive here in the morning.

Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

clip_image004

This tramway will elevate you up to around 8516 feet at the top of Santa Jacinto and Santa Rosa Mountain with the help of a rotating Tramcar. The floor of the boogie rotates so that the riders can have a complete view of the valley. Once you reach up top, you can expect other activities such as hiking or skiing. If you get tired after the hike, there are eateries that serve great food. The drinks lounge is great for tourists too. Once you reach up top, look for observation kiosk where you can have the panoramic view of the valley and its nearby towns. To be able to ride this tram, you’d need to take a small hike of two minutes to reach here.

Air Museum

This non-profit institution is run by many war veterans who can give you proper tours on the planes showcased there. There are more than eighty functional planes lying in that huge stretch inside the warehouse. You can also look out for artefacts, artworks, and documents related to aeroplanes. You can also talk to the veterans and learn more about each plane. They often share their personal accounts on the war which you wouldn’t find on any written texts. If you want a test flight then there you can try your hands-on simulation. Prices may vary depending on the hours you put in.

Jeep Tour

Kids love adventures as much as adults do. So, get yourself a jeep and book a tour to see the fault lines of San Andreas. The tour can get intense as it will be going through the desert where you can learn a lot about earthquakes, geology, Cahuilla et al. The backdrop of this place is quite amazing so you wouldn’t be bored exactly. The tour guides have a consolidated amount of knowledge about the geographical peculiarities of this place. Be sure to have a guide for your own convenience.

Art Museum

clip_image006

This museum is located at the heart of Palm Springs where art exhibits are shown that came from a diverse set of backgrounds. There are 28 galleries in the museum, all filled with mesmerizing artworks and artefacts. There is a sculpture garden as well which houses some of the best exhibits that this place has to offer. There are over 55,000 recorded objects found in this museum. The art shown here offers a rich cultural insight and also fills you with certain historical highlights.

Splashtopia

Located at the Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort and Spa, this place is the only resort in the area to have this kind of arrangement. There are about 20 water rides, 13 water slides, and other attractions. You can also head to the big pool section where you will be pitted against simulated waves. There is also a designated kid’s area of activity which is highly supervised. Food and other amenities are also being served here.

Walk of the stars

Palm Springs used to Hollywood’s best kept secret and was the getaway spot for many Hollywood stars. So, to pay tribute to these starts, they have made their own walk of the stars. Your kids can walk down the lane while learning about these legendary actors. It is quite obvious of a thing to introduce your children to big names like Sinatra, Rogers et al.

Horse Riding

Exploring the town on the back of the horse is a quite a unique thing to do. Your kids are probably going to love doing that as well. Head to the Smoke Tree Stables for horse rides. The place is quite easy to locate as it is situated right on the heart of Palm Springs. These stables are tidy, kid-friendly and have experts who can help you and your kids with relevant information.

Some of the places that are worth mentioning here are the Elmer’s Restaurant. Cabazon Dinosaur Museum, and Palm Springs Skatepark. This is a comprehensible list of places that you can look out for but obviously, there are activities which haven’t been listed here and neither places for you can discover them by yourself with the help of the locals. When it comes to family-friendly places, Palm Springs is not lagging behind.

5 Tips for Planning a Family Vacation

October 1, 2018 by Momstart Leave a Comment

Bringing the whole family together for a vacation can be a lot more work than you would think. You cannot just throw a few things into a suitcase, throw the suitcase into the back of your car, and then drive off, especially if you plan on vacationing for a week or longer. To have a memorable vacation, you need to plan things out, and there are a lot of factors you’ll have to juggle if you want to keep travel stress to a minimum.

1. Build a Budget

Vacations cost money. There’s fuel if you’re going by car and rental fees if you aren’t taking your personal vehicle. Consider other possible expenses, such as food, lodging, plane tickets, and entertainment costs. You must pay for suitcases and backpacks if you do not have them yet, and if your vacation takes you camping, you’ll need to buy necessary gear and possibly a camping trailer or an RV. You need to have your money on hand both before and during your vacation; therefore, it is wise to add up your expected costs and add approximately 25 percent more for emergencies.

2. Give Your Luggage a Dry Run

When the morning of your big vacation begins, you’ll want to get on the road early, whether it’s to reach an early flight or beat the morning traffic. Due to this, you will not want to waste time trying to fit your baggage into your vehicle. Otherwise, you might find out that you don’t have enough space. Ideally, you should pack as much into your vehicle, as you can, the night before and make sure the extra bags you will add in the morning will fit in the remaining space.

3. Develop Your Itinerary

clip_image002

Image via Flickr by Grand Canyon NPS

Before you head out on your family vacation, you should take some time to research your destination. What are the local tourist destinations? Where are all the best restaurants? Are there any big plays or concerts you’d want to see while you’re in the area? Use the answers to these questions to build your itinerary. Just remember you don’t have to follow it too strictly. You should not stress over fun things. In fact, you may find a hidden gem if you follow your child’s whim instead of your schedule.

4. Check Everyone’s Health

Medical emergencies are never good, but the situation is worse when they happen a thousand miles away from home. If you are going on a weeklong vacation or more, your family should check in with their doctors before they go, especially if they have ongoing health problems. You should also make sure everyone’s vaccines are updated, especially if you plan on going overseas.

It is wise to find out if your health insurance plan covers out of state or out of country doctor visits or emergencies. If possible, find an in-network provider prior to arriving at your destination. In the event you or your family needs medical care, you will know where to go ahead of time. Seniors over 65 can qualify for Medicare coverage and its supplemental insurance plans. Such individuals have an advantage because supplemental Medicare insurance plans allow them to use any Medicare health care provider within the United States.

5. Get Input from Everyone

The whole family should have some say on where they want to go and what they want to do when they get there. Young kids are not very good at planning, but by a certain age, they will know what activities they like and do not like. Older relatives might not be able to keep up if you stay too active, and a museum that is great fun for one person might be dull to everyone else.

A big family vacation can be just as stressful as it is fun, but you can do something about that stress. Plan your schedule and your budget, make sure everyone’s packed and healthy, and always remember to communicate with family members to make sure that all will enjoy the vacation.

Family Night A&W Root Beer Floats

August 6, 2018 by Momstart 1 Comment

We received samples and a gift card from A&W Root Beer to buy supplies for this blog post. All opinions are our own.

IMG_1197

Family Night in the summer is so different in our family from family night during the year, because during the summer our extended family can get together. This week, our family has flown from Seattle to Destin Florida to enjoy the beach where my mom lives.

IMG_1206My Uncle Thomas brought his girlfriend and my cousins with their kids from Texas which brings our family count to 16 and it’s insane and crazy and I wouldn’t have it any other way. We are all split between two rooms. 9 total adults and 7 children with two of those being babies. So yeah, we’re quite the rowdy bunch.

IMG_1208

Today is National Root Beer Float Day and A&W has a long history of creating family memories. Last night we created some memories with vanilla ice cream and A&W’s Original Root Beer Float. I bought some A&W Root Beer and some A&W diet Root Beer with the gift card they gave me and we made brownies too.

IMG_1219

I have to say that A&W is actually our family favorite Root Beer. The unique, creamy taste of A&W Root Beer is a simple treat that creates fun, care-free experiences for families and can help make any moment special. My uncle Thomas and his girlfriend last night told me that A&W is one of the only brands where their diet version is just as good if not better than the regular version. It was in his top three diet sodas.

A&W Root Beer helped us create the perfect timeless family night treat: an A&W Root Beer Float! I think we ended up making 8 floats total and everyone was all smiles. IMG_1227

Even the babies were having a good night. We talked for hours while the kids were out on the balcony watching the sunset and eating their Root Beer Floats. IMG_1228

My daughter she filled every glass with ice cream and then poured the A&W Root Beer over the ice cream. For some of them, I think brownie pieces were thrown in. If you need any “float how-tos” and recipe ideas please visit, www.rootbeer.com.

Summer Fun For The Family in Tacoma

July 25, 2018 by Beeb Leave a Comment

Moon Over Mount Rainier

We’ve become big fans of Tacoma as a PNW spot that’s perfect for a short vacation. If you want to take a break with the family this summer that won’t also break your bank account, check out some of the fun family activities Tacoma has to offer:

Extended families are starting to travel together, but struggle to find those rare destinations that can leave each generation feeling like they had the trip of a lifetime. For its history, museums, natural beauty and affordability, the Tacoma area is ripe for shared experiences.

Your trip to Tacoma and Pierce County could include a ghost tour, gondola ride, zip lining and the only combined zoo and aquarium in the Pacific Northwest. Add to the memories with a unique place to stay, from the glass-art centric Hotel Murano to a nine-person lodge near Mount Rainier.

Visit TravelTacoma.com for suggested itineraries and consider the following activities when your traveling group includes grandparents to toddlers.

Historic tours: Destiny Harbor Tours makes daily boat trips in the waters near Gig Harbor and Tacoma. If your group includes older kids, choose a ghost tour for a memorable perspective of the area. Explore Mount Rainier National Park with the Discover Nature shuttle and tour with naturalist Diann Sheldon.

Adrenaline-packed adventure: From mountains to sea level, you’ll find it all within 90 minutes of Tacoma. Hike at Mount Rainier National Park or zipline at Northwest Trek. Rent kayaks or stand-up paddleboards at multiple spots along Pierce County’s 25 miles of public shoreline.

Memorable transportation: Through Sept. 2 you can hop aboard the trolley from downtown Tacoma to Point Defiance on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (just $1!). Ride the gondola over alpine meadows at Crystal Mountain Resort, stopping at the highest-elevation restaurant in Washington state. Rent bikes, including four-person surreys, at Point Ruston for a ride along the flat, paved waterfront.

Animal encounters: At Northwest Trek Wildlife Park you can take a tram through 435 acres of animals’ free-roaming area, plus see dozens of other animal exhibits. Meet animals up close at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium’s hands-on stingray pool, budgie bird feedings, eye-to-eye shark tank and more. Point Defiance’s new Pacific Seas Aquarium opens Sept. 7.

Walkable museums: Classic cars, a glass art hot shop and hands-on learning for kids—you won’t find stuffy museums here. Tacoma’s walkable Museum District has six museums that will interest family members of all ages. There’s even the only pay-as-you-will children’s museum in the country.

Hungry? When it’s time to eat, try the nostalgic Shake Shake Shake and Frisco Freeze. Families also enjoy the classic choices at Carr’s Restaurant in Lakewood and the Buttered Biscuit in Sumner. Waterfront views and casual dining are plentiful at Point Ruston. Bonus: kids can cool off in the spray park while the adults enjoy a beverage in the shade at Wildfin’s outdoor wine bar.

Preserving Family Memories With EasyCanvasPrints.com

1980s family photo

Family photo of my Dad and I taken in the 1980s

This is a sponsored post in partnership with BraVoMark and EasyCanvasPrints.com.

I fell in love with canvas printing around 8 years ago when I had a family photo blown up. It was one of my favorite photos of my parents and I taken when I was a toddler, and it looked so beautiful enlarged on canvas. I realized then how much more detail a canvas can capture as opposed to just framing a regular-sized photo – it truly turns it into something special to be treasured.

Ever since then, I’ve been slowly getting my favorite pictures put onto canvas to display in our home. I’ve had several made from our bridal photos, and right now I’m working on blowing up all the family portraits that were taken at the wedding. My eventual goal is to have our dining room completely decorated with all my favorite family photos: I want to have that first canvas of my parents and I on one side of the room, a group of three different family portraits from the wedding on another wall, and then a photo of my mom on her wedding day on the opposite wall. This is longterm project that I’ve been doing piece by piece, as canvas prints can be pricey, so I like to wait until I can find a sale or coupon to take advantage of. That’s why I’m excited about the deal that EasyCanvasPrints.com has going on right now!

Easy Canvas Prints

EasyCanvasPrints.com is currently offering a 87% discount on their array of canvas prints. How awesome is that?! You can snag this deal by visiting EasyCanvasPrints.com; check out their FAQ page for more information and details on the deal. EasyCanvasPrints.com offers canvas printing in a wide variety of sizes and styles, all made right here in America at their headquarters in Austin, Texas. It’s a simple and quick way to preserve your family memories in a beautiful artform!

Have you ever had a photo put onto canvas before?

Woody Harrelson On Family, Happiness and Veganism A Solo Interview

May 25, 2018 by Momstart 1 Comment

Woody Harrelson surprised me in our Solo a Star Wars movie interview that Disney provided hotel and transportation for us to attend. Woody Harrelson was much more open about talking about his family and life than I ever thought he would be. He was relaxed and joyful throughout his entire interview. He seems like a really great guy enjoying life and ready to go back to his family and enjoy them.

Woody Harrelson plays the scoundrel known as Beckett in Solo: A Star Wars Story. He gives Solo so very sage advice in the movie. Woody was asked if he is anything like his character in our Solo interview and he said I don’t think I’m a hard ass. He said he wouldn’t be like Becket. Let me put it in his words,

image

And I think it’s probably good if you’re gonna want to try to make someone into a very street smart Survivor in that Universe, maybe that’s how he had to be.  But I wouldn’t be like that.  I mean, I’m like the most, i can’t even discipline my own child.  I don’t know how to do it because I always say to myself, well I would do that.

imageAbout Becket According To Woody

We asked him to describe his character:

he’s complicated in the sense that he doesn’t always, he’s not always as chummy as he could be but I’d say he’s a survivor who really also does have this image of life, wanting to be done with this life of Criminality and ultimately, just be playing the Valicord, living in a remote Planet somewhere.

Woody Harrelson Turned Down Solo

When Woody Harrelson was first approached to be part of Solo, he said no. He has been wanting to go spend some time on vacation and with his family. He said he would like to be in Europe and end up in Maui. The only reason he said yes was because Producer Ali Schermer wouldn’t take no for an answer. He also said it was the same story for Hunger Games.

Working With Alden

Alden was a treat to interview and everyone we talked to at the Solo Press Junket just loves him, including Woody. He said he was a really hard worker. He said that on the set they had little cubicles to rest in and that Alden would be taking piano lessons or reading a novel and Woody would be playing Speed Chess on his phone. He also admired his work ethic and said he was an extraordinary guy.

On Choosing To Be Happy

As I mentioned, Woody is a very jolly person. He was asked about what he wanted his legacy to be and his first response was he hopes it’s the smiling type and not the frowning type. He likes to make people laugh and hopes when people think of him they smile. He also talked about how he feels that he is a pretty genuinely happy person and credits that to gratitude. He said he was grateful for the life he has.

Being A Vegan

He talked a lot about how he gave up dairy and then decided to also give up meat. He had terrible acne and a woman told him he was lactose intolerant and it would clear up in three days if he gave up dairy. And it did. He said he also did a lot of reading and thinking about how other animals don’t need dairy or meat for protein. Maybe being a Vegan is his true secret to happiness.

Today is the day, Solo: A Star Wars Story is now in theaters.
