Oh My Disney Princesses Comes to Life #RalphBreaksTheInternetEvent

November 20, 2018 by Momstart Leave a Comment

Oh My, Oh My! Disney has created an adorable new adventure with Wreck-It Ralph as he travels through the internet with his best friend in the whole world. They are on the hunt for ways to make bank, because they need money to fix Vanellope’s game. As Vanellope is trying to help come up with some money, she ends up at Oh My Disney.

image

Oh My Disney has EVERYTHING Disney in it, including the infamous Princess Scene. Anything and everything you ever thought about the Disney princesses is said out loud, and it was all from the very creative writer Pamela Ribon. Co-writer Pamela Ribon discussed the inspiration for the scene, and Ami Thompson (Art Director, characters) and Kira Lehtomaki (Head of Animation) also sat down with us to talk about everything that went into creating this crazy busy Disney World.

RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNETThey spent hours and hours of time watching cat videos. Pamela talked a LOT about The Princess Scene because it was pretty much her baby. She was terrified to present this scene to the team that makes the decision of if it will make it into the movie or not. imageAs she was sweating buckets, she realized they were laughing and nodding and everyone loved it. But how did it come about? She reached out to her friends and asked for help understanding the princesses. She asked questions like, who was enslaved? Who was kidnapped? Who fit into

what trope? She took these tropes and created the scene. She then wrote it out, and did all voices for the presentation, and guess what? She is now the voice of Snow White. image

The three of them were very excited about the entire storyline and the process of creating Oh My Disney. There was an entire process to bringing the Princesses into CG and into the world of comfort. The designers had a lot of fun creating the princesses pajamas. The whole crew came up with ideas for each princess shirts. They had a really hard time narrowing it down into one for each princess. You’ll have fun checking out those Pj’s when you watch Ralph Breaks the Internet this weekend.

Another interesting fact was how they researched the princesses. They went to the parks to meet the real princesses. They met the original voices of all the princesses. They also had a Princesspaloza where they worked with the art and animation department and played with the rigging, the facial expressions and just everything they needed to understand to bring each character into this new world of animation. They also worked a lot with Disney legend Mark Henn. Which is incredible. He really helped them understand how the princesses would move. It’s amazing how they worked together to create this amazing scene..

Ralph Breaks the Internet is in theaters November 21st.

Disney Junior’s Fancy Nancy

July 12, 2018 by Momstart Leave a Comment

Disney provided hotel and transportation to LA for the Ant-Man and The Wasp Press Event and while we were there we got a sneak peek at Disney Junior’s new program Fancy Nancy and we are so excited to tell you all about this. Disney does now own the rights to Fancy Nancy and let’s just say they did a great job with turning one of our children’s most favorite book characters into an animated series. And, you can check out our sneak peek at the Fancy Nancy Toy Line from earlier this week.

image

My daughter, just like many daughters out there loved the Fancy Nancy books. These Little Readers brought exciting colors from the pages and fancy wording alive in the minds of our children. I remember having to get as many of the books we could from the library. My daughter owned quite a few of them though, which has to be where her love of them came.

image

How did they bring the colors alive?

You should know how much I love the world of animation and I was so excited to hear that for the creation of Fancy Nancy as an animated series they used the program called Maya. I learned how to use Maya in college and figured no one used it anymore but for this it allowed them to color and texturize these colorful characters in just the right way. I was very impressed.

What was Important to the creation of Fancy Nancy?

So, you know these characters are based on the book series Fancy Nancy, and they only re-created two of the stories so far. For everything else they have made their own stories and their goal is to continue down that line.

image

The stories that I saw really show children healthy friendships. They show how kids are imperfect and their expectations are imperfect but they also work together to fix things. They forgive and work to support each other. They find their imperfections and turn them into exceptional qualities in each other. Now if only the kids in our neighborhood could treat each other with such respect and kindness.

image

We were told that all the characters are going to go through ups and downs and that even Fancy Nancy’s best friend is going to be a strong character. They will butt heads but they will be able to recover. They are going to have arguments with their parents but they are going to be respectful about it. Which I adore the idea of that because so many programs now a-days have children disrespecting their parents wishes, and then everyone hugs like it’s ok. No, parents might be wrong about an idea but children have to do what their kids say. If there is a question it has to be brought up in the right way.

image

I’m really excited for a smart and fun program for children ages 3 – 7. Of course, children younger and older are probably still going to appreciate Fancy Nancy, my daughter might watch it just for nostalgic purposes. Tune in tomorrow on Disney Junior or one of the Disney channel apps.

What The Heck Is Disney’s Big City Greens

June 14, 2018 by Momstart Leave a Comment

Disney provided hotel and transportation so we could attend some press events. While we were there we visited some offices of Disney Channel’s animation and learned all about Disney’s new cartoon Big City Greens. We got to talk to the creators of the show who happen to also be brothers, Chris and Shane Houghton and how their childhood influenced this show, Big City Greens.

About Big City Greens

image

“Big City Greens” follows the offbeat adventures of 10-year-old Cricket Green, whose natural curiosity and enthusiasm lead him and his family – older sister Tilly, father Bill and Gramma Alice – on epic journeys and into the hearts of his new neighbors.

imageEric Coleman, senior vice president, Original Programming and general manager, Disney Television Animation, said, “Drawing upon their personal experiences, Chris and Shane have created a ‘fish-out-of-water’ series that consistently delivers stories with big laughs and plenty of heart. We’re eager for viewers to get to know the tight-knit Green family and their endearing relationships that will be universally appealing to kids and families.”

We got to watch the first episode and take a look into Chis and Shane’s inspiration. They showed us childhood pictures of themselves and their family. They told us some fun family stories too from growing up on the farm in Michigan, and my favorite was the one about their grandmother that the character in the cartoon is based off of. They said she was soft in the middle and very hard around the edges. She would give them money as a gift and they would tell her thank you. She would then tell them to shut up and put it  in your pocket and go away. Like she didn’t want anyone to know she had a soft heart, but sometimes they found her attitude very confusing. But of course they took the money and ran.

Big City Greens Show Characters:

Cricket – is to me a trouble maker. But he’s just that boy that is curious and will lead the way through trouble. They described him as being the person that will go through the door that says do no enter.

image

Tilly – Is a very sweet girl that marches to the beat of her own drum. She is confidently quiet.

image

Gramma Alice – is based off of their grandmother. She has that super hard exterior and a soft inside.

Bill Green – Is the dad that is always worrying about the farm and the weather and things that are out of his control.

image

Remmi – is the best friend and is everything that Cricket is not. He is very sheltered and scheduled and has no siblings. He is seeing life in a totally new way and becomes a surrogate member of the Green family.

Cat – they had a cat named Lucy and lived to be 21. So they had to put a cat in the show. They always had animals and the Green’s place had to feel like that.

You can look forward to the premiere of Big City Greens June 18th.

What To Do At Disneyland PixarFest In Photos

June 8, 2018 by Momstart 1 Comment

Disneyland provided us with park hopper tickets so we could experience Disneyland’s Pixarfest first hand and I have to say OH MY! What a treat it was to visit Pixarfest and it is bigger and better than I even imagined. So, out of all the things we did, we came up with a few things you must do at Disneyland Pixarfest: Get tickets to Disneyland.

image

What To Do At Disneyland PixarFest

Eat a Fun Flavored Churro – Disneyland has so many new flavors of Churros. Each one has a subtle flavor like Pineapple, or Carrot Cake. They seem to change them because I was told they did have Cookies and Cream Churros.

image

Watch the Pixar Play Parade – Holy wow this parade was so colorful and fantastic. Be prepared to get a little wet though as the rides will squirt you with water as they pass by. I really enjoyed how cute the floats were and the dancers in the street were very talented as they danced to the great Pixar themed songs.

imageimageimageimageimageimageimage

Watch the Pixar Fireworks – The “Together Forever” night time spectacular includes all of the Pixar films and I’m pretty sure there was a small nod to the Space movie that doesn’t have a release date yet. This fireworks display can be seen from locations all over the park.

image

Visit Pixar Pier – is home to the sweetest treats from the Abonimable Snowman Frosted Treats. image

image

image

Eat at Alien Pizza Planet. – This is a must because the food is amazing. I had The Antipasta Salad and it was delicious. I also had the opportunity to taste the Cheeseburger Pizza and all the desserts. OMG, they were so good. It was super hard to have one bite. In fact, I almost finished the Parfait.

imageimageimageimageimageimage

imageimage

A few other things you might want to experience that we did not get to experience are things like the Pain the Night Parade, Ride some rides, on June 22 Mickey’s roller coaster Mickey’s Screamin will be redone as an Incredibles themed roller coaster.Animation Academy is now teaching people how to draw your favorite Pixar characters. The Monorail is all decked out in Finding Nemo and Downtown Disney contains some Pixar nods as well. And because this post was made possible due to Incredibles 2 coming to theaters June 15th I have to share all my “Incredible” Incredibles 2 coverage.

The Signature Edition of Peter Pan is celebrating the 65th anniversary of the timeless classic with new and original bonus features. That’s right people more artwork and extra movie magic. You can learn more about what went into making the movie Peter Pan.

  • Bambi
  • The Lion King
  • Lady and the Tramp

image

In “Peter Pan,” fantastic adventures await the Darling children—Wendy, John and Michael—when Peter Pan, the hero of their stories, whisks them away to the magical world of Never Land.  After flying with Peter and the delightfully impish Tinker Bell past the “second star to the right and straight on till morning,” they explore the enchanted island and Peter’s secret hideout with the Lost Boys, and leap into high-flying battles with swashbuckling pirates and the infamous villain Captain Hook.

The Signature Collection edition of “Peter Pan” has over two hours of extra features. These include some never-before-seen extras, including the latest installment of “Stories from Walt’s Office,” which explores Walt’s love of flying and the company planes; a nostalgic reunion between Kathryn Beaumont (the voice of Wendy) and Paul Collins (the voice of John); and new “Oke” renditions of the classic song “You Can Fly” and deleted song “Never Smile at a Crocodile” accompanied by on-screen lyrics and the film’s unforgettable animated characters.

BONUS FEATURES

BLU-RAY & DIGITAL*:

New Signature Collection Bonus

· Stories from Walt’s Office: Walt & Flight – “Think of the happiest things, it’s the same as having wings”. As a continuation of the “Stories from Walt’s Office” series, we’ll soar into the world of one of Walt’s favorite pastimes and look at the history behind the company airplane he used to scout Central Florida looking for the perfect place to build his second theme park.

A parallel of sorts to that duality can be found in Walt Disney and his core group of animators, the Nine Old Men, in their lives and in their work. Our short film will look at who they were and the parts they played in one of the most remarkable team of artists that ever worked together.

· Deleted Song: “The Pirate’s Song” – Original demo recording of the song played over concept art.

· Deleted Song: “Never Smile at a Crocodile” – With music played over static concept art of the crocodile from Pater Pan.

How Disney Animation Research Library Helps

May 31, 2018 by Momstart 1 Comment

We received travel and hotel to LA for A Peter Pan Press Day. During our Peter Pan Signature Collection Press Day we spent a little time over at the Disney Animation Research Library, the morgue, aka the Disney archives center. We’ve been to the Disney research library before. It’s much like the Pixar Archives. I’ve been here before many years ago for a re-release of Beauty and the Beast it was my very first press event with the Walt Disney Company and one other time but I can’t remember for which movie. I do however remember that every time I’m there I feel like I’m in the middle of where the magic happens.

Peter Pan Signature Collection released on Digital 5/29 and  will release on Blu-ray 6/5.

image

The Disney Animation Research Library

The Disney company saves as much as they can and what they have saved for the movie Peter Pan is fantastic and was quite the treat to look at. So what goes on at the Disney Animation Research Library and how does it help animators?

image

How Does Disney Animation Research Library Help Animators?

So an animator might call up the Disney Animation Research Library and say hey I need to see everything for a movie like Peter Pan. The employees at the ARL will ask if the animator can be more specific. It’s their job to help the animator know exactly what they want to see and pull that animation for them. Now, you may say, but I thought you said they are digitalizing all of the animation. Well, for the artwork, there is nothing like seeing it in person. image

All photos and artwork credit goes to Disney Animation Research Library.

Peter Pan Original Art Work

Original Peter Pan artwork

What Goes on at Disney Animation Research Library, ARL?

The Disney Animation Research Library houses all of the animation cells, drawing and anything used in the process of creating a Walt Disney Animation production of any kind. They have it all organized and stored for safety. They are currently in the process of digitizing all of the animation. And that is easily accessible by the animators. More about that in a minute.

Disney Animation Research Library

They do more than digitize the work, they also repair it or send it off to be repaired. They help in curations for museum all over the world. ARL also helps with the creation of the Live Action movies based on the animated features. For example, In The Jungle Book, they used an actual book from the animated movie. A member of the Disney Animation Research Library was on set with the art work the entire time. The art kept here is extremely precious and they keep their  eyes on it at all times.

Peter Pan ARL

And for re-releases of the animated films, it’s the Disney Animation Research library that helps come up with what will be in the extras or the special features on the Blu-ray. Check out the animation we saw for Peter Pan.

A Walk Through Walt Disney’s Office #PeterPanBluray

May 29, 2018 by Momstart Leave a Comment

Disney provided hotel and transportation so I could attend a press Day on the Disney lot for Peter Pan. During the Peter Pan press day we took a tour of Walt Disney’s office. Walt Disney’s office has been recreated down to the last detail. As much as possible the furniture and items you will see pictured below are original items. So take a walk with me through Walt Disney’s office.

Walt Disney had such a creative and innovative mind. Such a person like Walt Disney needed his own space and he had it. He had a reception area, his office and then an entertaining office that had a kitchen where Walt Disney’s Chili was served. We had the opportunity to check out what his space looked like years ago when he was alive and making movies. Walt Disney's Office

It looks a little like I remember from ABC’s “A Wonderful World of Disney” or “Walt Disney Presents”. I think both of those were shows I used to watch. Oh and a fun tidbit, his brother’s office was VERY far away from his. Sometimes, they needed some space. Other than that TV show, how do we know what his office looked like?

Walt Disney's hallway

How Do We Know What Walt Disney’s Office Looked Like

Disney archives keeps a little bit of everything so that history is accurately remembered. This includes what Walt Disney’s office looked like.  I had the opportunity to walk inside Walt Disney’s office on the Disney lot in Burbank California. You know, you can also see what his office looked like in the movie Saving Mr. Banks. I believe our tour guide said that it was even filmed there.

What Walt Disney’s Office looked like

He had an office where he would write, he had an office where he would formally meet with people, and then he also had an office where he would be creative.

I find Walt Disney to be a very inspiring man. I’ve been lucky enough to visit many of his personal locations. I’ve been to the house Walt Disney lived in for many years. I’ve also visited the Walt Disney Family Museum. Of course I’ve also been to Walt Disney world and to Disneyland on many occasions. His dreams never seem to have died.

The first four photos in this blog post are courtesy of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment. The rest of the photos I took myself on my tour of Walt Disney’s Office. I’m going to let you know that I have now visited his office twice now and I’m going to share with you a few photos I took on my most recent visit. I even learned a little more about the office.
