Wreck-It Ralph Breaks The Internet: The Princess Scene

July 17, 2017 by Momstart Leave a Comment

WOW! This last weekend at the D23Expo John Lasseter gave us a ton of information about everything coming down the pipeline for Pixar, and Disney Animation. But what I want to focus on is Wreck-It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks The Internet. My favorite scene from everything we saw during his presentation was The Princess Scene. The Princess Scene includes all of the official Disney Princesses and we were treated with their appearances on stage as each of them came back to voice their parts.

Wreck-It Ralph 2

The Princess Scene

ANAHEIM, CA – JULY 14: (L-R) Chief Creative Officer of Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios John Lasseter, actors Paige O’Hara (Belle/BEAUTY AND THE BEAST), Irene Bedard (POCAHONTAS), Mandy Moore (Rapunzel/TANGLED), Auli’i Cravalho (MOANA), Sarah Silverman (Vanellope von Schweetz/RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET: WRECK-IT RALPH 2), Kristen Bell (Anna/FROZEN), Kelly Macdonald (Merida/BRAVE), Anika Noni Rose (Tiana/THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG), Linda Larkin (Jasmine/ALADDIN), and Jodi Benson (Ariel/THE LITTLE MERMAID) of RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET: WRECK-IT RALPH 2 took part today in the Walt Disney Studios live action/animation presentation at Disney’s D23 EXPO 2017 in Anaheim, Calif. RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET: WRECK-IT RALPH 2 will be released in U.S. theaters on November 21, 2018……….(name of talent) of (name of film) took part today in the Walt Disney Studios animation presentation at Disney’s D23 EXPO 2017 in Anaheim, Calif. We saw some footage, The Princess Scene, from Wreck-It Ralph and it was hilarious. This Princess Scene from Ralph Breaks The Internet has Vanellope who has decided to give the princesses, all the Disney Princesses voiced by the original actresses, a hard time. Right after she sneaks into their room all the princesses turn on her in classic fighting moves. Then she tries to convince them that she’s a princess and that’s when you will start laughing and not stop until the scene is over. You will hear each princess practically break the third wall. They all say what we’ve thought about them for years. Bell admits to being held captive, Ariel wants to break out into song and everyone is annoyed. I mean, I can’t even properly give this scene it’s due credit trying to describe it to you. It was SO FREAKING good that as I was watching it, I was beginning to think it was a fake scene that won’t be in the final version of the movie. Would John Lasseter allow such humor against the precious Disney Princesses? I sure hope so and I have to say it’s about time!

Wreck-It Ralph 2

This Princess Scene is Genius! I can’t wait for all of you to see it when Wreck-It Ralph 2 hits theaters November 21, 2018.

Just in case you want it here is the Wreck-It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks The Internet Synopsis:

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ follow-up to 2012’s “Wreck-It Ralph” leaves the arcade behind, venturing into the expansive universe of the internet—which may or may not survive Ralph’s not-so-light touch. Outcasts-turned-BFFs Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) and Vanellope von Schweetz are reuniting with Fix-It Felix (voice of Jack McBrayer) and Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Jane Lynch). Filmmakers revealed a new character, Yesss, an algorithm who plays an important role in Ralph and Vanellope’s journey within the internet. Golden Globe®-winning actress Taraji P. Henson (“Empire”) lends her voice to the character. “Yesss is a new character who owns the website Buzzaholic,” said Henson. “Yesss knows about everything cool and on trend. And she does spell her name with a triple ‘s.’ Yesss is very savvy, smart and sexy.”

Stay tuned we will bring you updates on Wreck-It Ralph 2 as we receive them.

I Made Wreck-It Ralph Dance: Disney Animation Studios Let Me Play With Maya #WreckItRalph

February 27, 2013 by Momstart 7 Comments

It was my dream as a little girl to be an animator. I’ve always loved to draw and I’ve been into computers for as long as I can remember which is why I majored in Computer Science with an Art Emphasis in college. I played with all kinds of media, water color, oil and sketches and on the tech side, I learned programming and Photoshop. Some of my college friends had a copy of Maya which is a super cool software package that’s MEGA expensive. I tried to dabble in it but failed and gave up. Then on my most recent Press day at Disney Animation Studios, they gave me a lesson and let me play with Wreck-It Ralph’s body.

 IMG_3687

So by using Maya, I made him dance. They showed me that with a few shortcut keys I can move different parts of his body in different directions. Clicking brought up some nodes and then I could pick and make slight changes and then I got to watch my work. I LOVED IT. Check out my Ralph dancing:

We did spend the day learning about other things, like digital download that comes with movies. It’s super easy with your DisneyMovieRewards account. If you don’t have one. GET ONE. We also had the opportunity to see the transitions of Ralph. I think I showed you guys that in an older post, but had to bring it up because some of the deleted scenes (and transitions of Ralph) are expected to be on the Blu-ray DVD Combo Pack of Wreck-It Ralph.

It’s with great anticipation that I’m awaiting the Blu-ray DVD Combo Pack of Wreck-It Ralph to come out so I can relive all those sugar filled moments.

Disney’s WRECK-IT RALPH Motion Camera Capture video, The Rigging Process

February 16, 2013 by Momstart 6 Comments

I love the tech behind animation, while I was at Disney Animation Studios this week I was able to play with Maya. I LOVE the Maya software, I played with it a brief amount during college and having a professional animator at my disposal was so helpful and made my day. Then after that we were taken into a room where we learned all about the rigging process. A director or someone that doesn’t know the technical aspects of animation or maybe he does know it but just wants to show someone how to change the camera view can use the rigging process. Check out this video of me walking through a scene of Wreck It Ralph while playing with the rigging cameras.

IMG_3690

So they set up a box with tape with cameras all around to create a virtual box that can become a set. With all the cameras they create a virtual world and place some objects with tracking balls on them and you can use that to change the view within the virtual world. It’s like taking an armature and using it to animate a model, usually a human like model to animate the model. the armature isn’t rendered but the model moving is.IMG_3691 IMG_3694IMG_3688IMG_3695

It’s amazing and I might not be describing it correctly but it really is amazing.

Wreck It Ralph is now available via digital download however the Blu-ray and DVD Combo Packs will be out on March 5th!

Watching Wreck-It Ralph is Color-Sweetastic: Movie Review

October 30, 2012 by Momstart 13 Comments

Wreck-It Ralph is so good I’m pre-buying tickets to see it opening weekend. I saw Wreck-It Ralph almost two months ago and I loved it. It’s full of color, imagination, and humor. You know Ralph, he’s every man’s man. He goes to work every day, never appreciated always forgotten and he’s tired of it. He’s actually even considered the bad guy, when it’s just his job, he’s a “bad guy, but not a bad guy”.

GAME CENTRAL STATION -- Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly)—tired of being overshadowed by Fix-It Felix, Jr. (voice of Jack McBrayer), the "good guy" star of their game—sets off on a quest to prove he's got what it takes to be a hero. His arcade-game-hopping journey kicks off at Game Central Station, an industrial power strip that serves as the central hub connecting every game in the arcade. In theaters Nov. 2, 2012, "Wreck-It Ralph" also features the voices of Jane Lynch and Sarah Silverman. ©2012 Disney. All Rights Reserved.

Next thing you know he’s gone turbo and left his game. While he’s away his game doesn’t work and is threatened to be shut down making him hated even more, all the while he’s just trying to prove that he can be a hero too. Where does Ralph go?

Ralph travels into two other worlds where they are completely different from his own. His own world is quite square, it’s a retro game that has somehow survived 30 years. He enters the world of Hero’s Duty where the world is very triangular and sharp. It’s like stepping into Halo where the visuals are amazing and the characters are scary inside and out. Even the woman in charge seems to have no heart, but that’s the key to her back story.

"WRECK-IT RALPH" (Pictured) SERGEANT CALHOUN (voice of Jane Lynch) in the video game world of Hero's Duty. ©2012 Disney. All Rights Reserved.

He then collects what he thinks will make him a Hero, the prize medallion that he loses in Sugar Rush. I’m leaving some of the major plot details out so you’ll feel that you need to go watch the movie, and here’s the key question, why would he go into Sugar Rush after getting his prize? Why would that grumpy old man want to go into the world of swirls of color? Maybe you should ask, What went wrong in Hero’s Duty? All Questions to think about, as I was watching Wreck-It Ralph, I was surprised to find out how much Hero’s Duty was a part of the movie. Seemed to me that all the movie was going to be about at first was Vanellope and Ralph. They are quite the humorous pair as they banter back and fourth with each other, and it’s interesting to know that most of their humor was ad-libbed.  As they antagonize each other they find out how much in common they have and forge an unlikely friendship that ends up saving the day.

Wreck_It_Ralph_EW_Exclusive_RGB-7

I highly recommend this movie and will be going to see it on Saturday with my four and five year old. It’s so colorful and playful, and sweet and fantastic. So saddle up kids, get turbo and wreck it this weekend as Wreck-It Ralph smashes into theaters Friday.

Wreck-It Ralph Interview with Director Rich Moore and Producer Clark Spencer

October 21, 2012 by Momstart 15 Comments

The movie for the entire family is about to crash into a theater near you. Disasters and wrecking are sure to follow as you run out to the movies November 2nd to see Wreck-It Ralph

You’ll notice when watching Wreck-It Ralph that there are lots of actual video game characters and theme music weaved in and out during the movie. Clark Spencer said that it was really easy to get the brands to collaborate with them.

I remember when Rich first pitched the idea, and Rich talked a lot about wanting authenticity, which means you have to have the real video game characters. Otherwise it’s all –  Clark

If you’re going to do it, you should do it right. You know…..Rich Moore

image

We always wondered, what will we be able to get? And I think we always said, well, if we can get a few characters, that’ll really help ground it. But amazingly when we went out to the companies and they heard the idea for the film, they were very excited about it. And I think we had this moment when we both went to E3, the big gaming convention here in Los Angeles… And they got really excited very quickly. And then it was a process over the course of many months, where we were talking with the companies, and the legal teams were all meeting with each other to talk about what can and can’t get done. Not simply, but surprisingly, it went a lot smoother than you might ever expect….But I think it was one of those things where it felt — because there were going to be a lot of characters in the film and because the characters weren’t going to be the main characters, companies were interested in being a part of it. And I think in some ways, TOY STORY blazed the trail for that. When people saw, well, it’s great to be a part of the TOY STORY franchise, and, and film, because it’s ways for different toys to be in the same world, and be represented. So I think it was one of those things where we were sort of able to use that as a reference point, in game company stock. This could be an exciting project to be a part of….Clark Spencer

Video Games?? Why make a movie about video games?

I was sitting and thinking about what would make a good movie and someone had brought up that they had a notion,  of a story about video games. An idea that had been kind of floating around here for many years. And had kind of appeared in different iterations. But never really got off the ground. It always ended up being shelved, and it had been shelved about a year before I started here. And I thought, well, that’s an interesting world, you know, video games. I like video games, and it seems like, [LAUGHS] it’d be fun. It’s like the audience would really like to visit something like that. I could see the potential for spectacle and comedy, and drama. And so it seemed, like a great idea. I just started from square one, the world of video games and their characters and what their lives are like.

WRECK-IT RALPH

After about two days I thought, well, this is the worst idea ever because they have one job that they do, day in and day out. There’s no free will. They’re programmed to do things. This would make a horrible movie. Then it hit me, that would be great if you had a main character who didn’t like his job and was wondering is this all there is to life, this one thing that I do? So it really simply began with just those two things, a big overarching world or universe of video games and a very kind of personal conflict, an internal conflict between the character and his world. And I’ve been moving on with that ever since. So, about three and a half years. – Clark Spencer

Voices, How did you decide on the voices?

There’s an old saying, “Directing — good directing is 75% good casting.” And I believe that. So it was important to me that we not just cast voices just for the sake of casting a popular voice. I wanted really the actors to come from the heart of the characters. Phil Johnston is the writer and he and I were developing the characters in the story and we would say, “Well, now who is this like, who, who would be good doing this?”……Clark SpencerGAME CENTRAL STATION -- Ralph (voice of John C.

We had a big board that we would put up pictures of people and say, “Well, Ralph is kind of like this person.” And sometimes it would change day to day, “No, he’s more like this.” That was our process of focusing in to who the character is and who would really bring justice to that character. We knew pretty early on that John C. Reilly would be great for this character. And Sarah was on that original pitch to John. I knew that we wanted to have a candy world. And that Sarah is the voice of little candy……Clark Spencer

"WRECK-IT RALPH" (Pictured) VANELLOPE VON SCHWEETZ in the video game world of Sugar Rush. ©2012 Disney. All Rights Reserved.

The role of the character Sergeant Calhoun was a man and at one point we just said, well, why, what if Calhoun’s a woman? You know, and, and this was all like Jane on, on GLEE. Phil and I liked her from a lot of movies that she had done previous to GLEE……Clark Spencer

"WRECK-IT RALPH" (Pictured) SERGEANT CALHOUN (voice of Jane Lynch) in the video game world of Hero's Duty. ©2012 Disney. All Rights Reserved.

And Felix needs to be the nicest man in the world. So if Ron Howard’s not available. [LAUGHS] No, we knew from the beginning Jack would be perfect for Felix. So it was all kind of developed in tandem….Clark Spencer

Ralph Travels through the game system from one world to another world. How did you decide on the worlds?

I knew early on that I wanted to celebrate the different worlds. You know video games have been around long enough now, that they have history to them. You can look at games from the beginning like PONG and you can put it next to HALO the most modern game of today. And you wonder at how far we’ve come. [LAUGHS] So I wanted to celebrate that difference. So we chose different genres of games that would illustrate that history of games.— Clark Spencer

"WRECK-IT RALPH" Niceland Apartments visual development. ©2012 Disney. All Rights Reserved.

We wanted an old arcade game. You know an old 9-bit one. We wanted  a modern one a shooter game, and we wanted to do a car racing game, a whimsical one. And Everything within those worlds. We wanted to celebrate what made those different genres unique and special…..Rich Moore

WRECK-IT RALPH

With Fix-It Felix, Jr. world, it was all simple from the design to the camera work in it. We wanted it to be kind when you’re in that world, everything about it says that it’s simple. There’s no circles or round or anything. It’s all based on squares. And it was tough. It was a big challenge in this movie convincing the artists that worked on it that you know everything that you usually do when you’re working on a movie, don’t do that. I wanted the audience to feel like they’re seeing three different movies. So we had to make things simple to really celebrate what makes 8-bit an 8-bit world. And then when we get to Hero’s Duty, now go very realistic, super realistic. From the character designs to the animation to the design of the world. There is a huge difference between the two, simple to very detailed. And then to be kind thrown into to Sugar Rush a very whimsical world that celebrates classic Disney animation… Rich Moore

Walt Disney Animation Studios' "Wreck-It Ralph" takes place in the world of arcade video games and features the brightly colored, deceptively sweet game of "Sugar Rush," in which competitors race candy go-karts around a world make entirely of edible sweets...©2012 Disney. All Rights Reserved.

It really did require people’s brains in all departments, Effects, Lighting, the camera work, Animation, to be continually changing. And then it did mean that Rich had to always be trying to stay on top of them, to make sure that they were pushing it as far as we could push it, to make it be great….Clark Spencer

And the movie Wreck-It-Ralph Really is great.

Thank you to Disney for travel and accommodations to participate in this interview
