TV personality and mom Melissa Rycroft knows the importance of balancing home life with a hectic career. The former Dancing With The Stars and The Bachelor contestant carves out special “Mommy and me” bonding time with her daughter, Ava, and spoke to me last week about her tips for a great girl’s day, along with her beauty advice for on-the-go moms.
Beeb Ashcroft: You’re a busy woman – what are your tips for looking good on the go?
Melissa Rycroft: I like to keep my look simple and clean on a day to day basis. I usually stick to some BB cream and bronzer on my face, and throw my hair in a top knot. Keeping it simple is key for looking put together, but not having to take a lot of time to do it!
Beeb Ashcroft: What are your top five beauty products that you can’t live without?
Melissa Rycroft: Definitely a bronzer for my face. It never hurts to fake a little color! And I love BB cream! It covers up all my blemishes and creates a natural look! Obviously a good lip gloss is key. A touch of color on your lips makes such a difference! And for my hair, the new Goody Spin Pin has been a miracle find! I’m queen of the messy bun, and it has been such a time saver when putting my hair up! Also, the Goody Ouchless Girls Brush has been amazing as well. Ava’s hair tends to get really tangled throughout the day, and finding a brush that gets her tangles out gently without her even noticing has been life saving for us! Getting ready in the morning has become a fun process for us, and not something that we dread!
Beeb Ashcroft: There’s nothing like a pampering girl’s day painting nails and doing hair. What are some mommy/daughter “Spa day” rituals that you have fun with?
Melissa Rycroft: Oh my gosh, Ava LOVES when we get to do fun, girly things together! She loves getting her nails done, and she has just started having fun painting her own nails, and painting mine as well. All my nails look like they were done with my left hand, but I love when she paints mine – it’s really sweet! And she also really likes when we get to do each other’s hair. She’s big on wanting to give me a hairstyle, and then have me give her the same one! Right now, she’s really working on her braid, and she’s starting to get the hang of it! It’s just a really special time for us when we can take some girl time, pamper each other, and create memories we will both carry with us forever!
