Beauty and the Beast: Belle’s Magical World Special Edition

By Summer

I love watching Disney shows. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast: Belle’s Magical World is just that; there are 4 mini-movies or episodes on this one disc – “The Perfect Word”, “Fifi’s Folly”, “Mrs. Pott’s Party”, and “Broken Wing”. These shows were intended by Disney to be used in the TV series the “Princess Power Hour”. Thought this didn’t happen these cartoons offer some fun Beauty and the Beast entertainment as these shows fill in the months Belle spent in the castle with her enchanted friends.

clip_image002

The stories, SPOILER ALERT:

The Perfect Word – In this addition to Beauty and the Beast you meet Webster, the castle’s dictionary. The short feature is about emotions and explains many of the emotions using synonyms. Belle and the Beast are in a fight as are Lumiere and a new character, Chandeliera; their differences are solved with understanding and apologies. This short also includes a new song.

Fifi’s Folly – This cartoon is about jealousy. Many children face jealousy over toys, friends, and sibling-parent relationships. In this episode Belle is helping Lumiere prepare an anniversary celebration for Fifi; however, Fifi over hears and thinks Belle and Lumiere are pairing up. In the end it all gets straightened out, as usual, and all is well in the castle again!

Mrs. Potts’ Party – The beloved character, Mrs. Potts, suffers from SAD – Seasonal Affective Disorder – and the castle just can’t get it together enough to cheer her up as all the friends are fighting instead of working together to throw Mrs. Potts a “cheer up” party. Everyone is being mean and bitter which continues to bring Mrs. Potts down. In the end all friends work together AND the sun makes an appearance; all of this helps Mrs. Potts’ feel better. Belle caps off this episode with a cheerful song about friendship.

Broken Wing – Belle’s compassionate hearts again gets her into a pickle with the Beast when she rescues a bird with a broken wing. The wing is bandaged and on the mend, but the Beast tries to keep the bird for his own enjoyment. Belle turns her heart and eventually Beast releases the bird, but because of the kindness shown to the bird, it decides to stick around. This is a classic “If you love something so much then set it free to see if it returns” tale.

The animation is very close to the original. The colors are not as vivid as the original movie but they’re better than Beauty and the Beast: Enchanted Christmas. The talent of the shows is most of the original cast.

I really enjoyed these shows. The full disc is 92 minutes long. The length all in one stretch was too long for my straying kids. We had to take a snack break, but the best thing is you can select the stories you like best, and watch from there. You can’t however just choose the feature, you have to do a scene selection.

All and all we liked each! I do think Beauty and the Beast: Belle’s Magical World is worth owning on DVD.

Monster.com: Dress For Success Present A Better You

My best interview experience happened about 7 years ago. I was looking for a job in retail, something to keep me busy. I was dressed for an interview, which means I had on nice clothes, wore makeup and did my hair, even though all I was doing was picking up applications and then turning them back in. I also had prepared a resume with all of my past experience and in one store they interviewed and hired me right on the spot. I was even hired to be the manager of that store, so it never hurts to be prepared for success by presenting a better you with how you dress.

Fast Forward 7 years I’m still always prepared for success. Whenever I go on a blogging trip I dress as if it’s a job interview. I would love to one day become a corporate blogger or the mom that represent that brand on a long term basis. Meeting these companies face to face is the best way to make an impression, so whenever I’m getting ready to go on a brand trip, I tear my closet apart making cute, fashionable yet quite update and professional outfits for our events. 318541_10150344037245205_707085204_8302581_884309740_n[1]

This is what I brought on my trip to Kissimmee with Global Resort Homes.

Then, I’ve also been known to run through the streets of New York dressed like this for Movie Premieres like War Horse with Disney & DreamWorks. You never ever know what life is going to bring you so always present a better you and dress for success.

A Glamorous Red Carpet For War Horse

I must admit that being in the presence of Steven Spielberg was jaw dropping. I just felt like I was in the presence of greatness, I mean everything he has accomplished and many of my all time favorite movies have his name on the project somewhere. He’s fantastic and I loved how he introduced the cast to all of us before beginning the movie.

New York, NY - December 04, 2011: David Thewlis, Robert Emms, Jeremy Irvine, Tom Hiddleston, Director/Producer Steven Spielberg, Emily Watson, Toby Kebbell, Matt Milne and Patrick Kennedy at The World Premiere of DreamWorks Pictures' "War Horse" at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center for The Performing Arts on December 04, 2011 in New York City, NY.

We would have met Joey too, if it wasn’t for the fact that there were 14 of them and Steven didn’t want the other 13 to get jealous.

It was a night of glamour for my friends and I too as all of us had the opportunity to get all dressed up. Before we even left the hotel I took photos of as many of the bloggers as I could and had a friend take a photo of me. I can’t remember the last time I had the opportunity to get this glammed up. While I was at the premier I felt like people thought I was someone famous. I actually had people come up to me, telling me how much they loved my dress and how spectacular I looked. It was a wonderful and humbling experience.

Flying with Marry Poppins on Broadway

We tried to fly with Marry Poppins while we were waiting for our backstage tour of the New Amsterdam Theater. I had no balance, I didn’t even notice that I could use Mary as support like Jeana did.

IMG_6379

Look at her fly.

IMG_6390

Mary Poppins on Broadway in New York City was spectacular. It was Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious even though the sound if it is something quite atrocious. Sorry, I can’t help but break out into song after watching it. I have so many different Mary Poppins songs just running through my head.

image

I love that on Broadway you get a different version of the story with all your favorite songs. They capture the essence of what everyone already knows and loves with live actors through singing and dancing and a little bit of magic. More like a ton of magic. There are so many wholes in the floor, and entire house fits in the back of the theater and they move it forward, they have the biggest umbrella I’ve ever seen come out of the floor, and statues come to life as they are rolled across the stage.

MARY_POPPINS_Gavin_Lee

The kids were amazing, They were practically perfect, in everyway, which if you have seen Mary Poppins on broadways you’ll realize that was one of the songs. When Mary introduces herself to the children she tells them she’s practically perfect. I loved it. The actress playing Mary was an amazing talent. She was only 24 with the most amazing voice and I had no idea how fast someone could change clothes and get from the above the balcony of the audience back down to the stage in front of us so fast. That theater is HUGE I tell you with secret passages everywhere. Even the actor playing Burt was amazing. The singing captivated me from beginning to end and the sets. WOW, I’ve never seen such elaborate sets. They come out of the floor they come down from the ceiling. Burt even walked the ceiling. He walked up the side of the wall, across the ceiling and back down all while dancing and singing. I was watching his face and thinking that man is an amazing athlete. I used to play in a marching band and playing and doing something like a dance is quite exhausting. I think I just found Marry Poppins to be magical. She flew several times while singing and she never once lost her hat. I tried on her hat, Her head was quite small.

Warm Holiday Wishes from California Wine Club

Oh no, my last shipment of wine was delivered a few weeks ago and I don’t know what I’m going to do. Do I go to Costco and start getting what I was getting before I started receiving wine from the California Wine Club or Do I sign up for a continuous shipment. I do really enjoy how the wine shows up ever month. I love how neatly it’s packaged and I love that I get to try new wines every month, even when they end up being wines I don’t prefer I love that I got to try them out. I also love the fact that I don’t have to leave my house. I hate going out to any store after Thanksgiving day. The crowds and lines are insane not to mention the parking and traffic that is generated with everyone going out to buy something. So anything I can order and enjoy from an on-line purchase I’m all about it. And I’d love someone to get this for me as a Christmas Present, hint hint. Of course, I know that this would be an amazing gift for my mom, my grandma and my neighbors, so don’t forget to think about California Wines Premier Club subscription as a Christmas present for someone you know.

wine

This last month, I received two Holiday Wines from California Wine Club and the award winning Tulip Hill Winery. These two estate wines were a great addition to the wine’s I’ve been able to try so far. One was the silver medal-winning Red win. The other was a white wine. The Red wine is a luscious blend of Montepulciano grapes grown in California and Cabernet Sauvignon. It bursts with flavors of summer-ripened berries and a kiss of dark chocolate. MMM The other bottle we received was a Reserve Chardonnay. If you have really good taste buds which I do not, you might be able to taste hints of pineapple and lemon and a touch of creamy oak.

Twas The Night Before Mocha Recipe

By Summer:

These are a fun little cold weather dessert. I loved thinking up this idea and making them because they’re my own little not cake and not cookie … they’re a mini-“cookake” or something like that. Honestly naming isn’t my strong suit! Anyhow, these desserts were inspired by my husband who has to have his cup every day … or twice a day.

IMG_8945

This cold weather dessert is lower in sugar and whole grain healthy using Hodgson Mill Whole Wheat Flour. These are plain mocha, but you can “spice” them up by adding flavoring: add a teaspoon of peppermint extract the frosting and sprinkle the top with crusted candy cane, or add a teaspoon of caramel flavoring syrup to the frosting and drizzle a caramel sauce on top. Limitless variations and mocha flavoring ideas!

Twas the Night before Mocha Recipe
By Summer

Ingredients:
4 ounces unsweetened baking chocolate
½ cup butter
1 cup light brown sugar, packed
2 cups Hodgson Mill Whole Wheat Flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
2 large or extra-large eggs
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1 cup powdered sugar
8g about 1/8 cup finest ground espresso beans
You’ll Need:
Set of each measure spoons and cups
Stand Mixer with Flat Beater and Wire Whisk attachments
Double Boiler
Plastic Spatula
mini-muffin tin
frosting tube with preferred gage OR zip-top bag

1. Preheat oven to 350oF.

2. In a double boiler melt chocolate. Using your stand mixer with flat beater cream together the butter and brown sugar on speed 2, and then pour in chocolate. Combine.IMG_8937

3. Add one cup of Hodgson Mill Whole Wheat Flour, baking powder, and salt, and stir in stand mixer. While stirring add in an egg. When combined add another cup of Hodgson Mill Whole Wheat Flour and continue stirring. Add second egg. Stir until completely combined.IMG_8939

4. Place 1 Tablespoon of chocolate mixture into each cup. Press mixture against base and walls of each cup. Cook in preheated oven for 9 minutes or until crust appears firm (not moist but not dry; do not overcook or the crust will crumble).

5. Remove from oven and allow to cool in tin for 2 minutes. Press into each crust making a crater in the center of each chocolate mini-cake. Allow to cool 5 minutes more then use your fingers to carefully grip an edge of each cup and remove all pieces for the cooking tin. Allow to cool completely.

6. In the meantime, whip together cream, powdered sugar and espresso in stand mixer with whisk attachment; work up to highest speed and maintain for 1 minute until mixture is frosting consistency.

7. Full tub or bag with frosting. Pipe into each cup. Serve or refrigerate until time to serve.

Swanson Unsalted Stock Flavor Boost & Beef With Caramelized Shallots Recipe

By: Ashley

Thanksgiving may be over, but Holiday dinners, parties, and even New Year’s meals are EVERYWHERE on the calendar. When you’re trying to figure out what to make, or how to make your go-to dishes even better, make sure you check out Swanson Cooking Stock. Swanson is not a new name to the kitchen kingdom, but they have continued to develop innovative products that are easy to incorporate into your favorite recipes.

Swanson Unsalted Stock

Swanson has recently introduced Swanson Flavor Boost to their line of stocks and broths. Usually broth is used to provide a richly-seasoned base for soups, sauces, etc. Sometimes it can even be used to add flavor or that extra moistness you are looking for in rice, vegetables, pasta, and even stuffing. Swanson Flavor Boost provides the hearty flavor of their regular broth products, but in a tiny concentrated liquid packet. Your eyebrows might go up a little as you wonder if that means it has added chemicals and products. Good news! Swanson Flavor Boost is 100% natural and has no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives, and no added MSG. It’s designed to be used as a finishing touch by adding lots of flavor at the end of some of your favorite meals without all of the excess liquid. It comes in three different flavors: chicken, beef, and vegetable.

While the Swanson Flavor Boost is an amazing product that I can personally say adds some juicy goodness to some otherwise bland dishes, I’m also a huge fan of cooking with Swanson Unsalted Cooking broths. Swanson Cooking Stock is made with premium meat that has been simmered with just the right herbs, spices, and veggies.

Broth is something that I ALWAYS keep on hand. You never know when you might need it to spunk up a bland dish. I can honestly say that there is a slight taste and quality difference between Swanson and my store variety. After having Swanson products in my kitchen for the review, I’m pretty sure that I will never go back to any of the other brands.

swanson recipe

In order to test out the Swanson products I made 2 different dishes. You can check out the recipe for my Swanson Turkey Burgers on Momicles. I also wanted to share another great recipe here on MomStart. The Turkey Burger Recipe features the Swanson Flavor Boost while this one features their unsalted Cooking Stock. Both are DELICIOUS!

Beef With Caramelized Shallots Recipe

Also found on Momicles

Ingredients:

2 T olive oil
1 boneless beef sirloin steak, 3/4-inch thick (about 1 lb), cut into thin strips
6 medium shallots cut into quarters (about 1 cup)
1/2 c. dry red wine
1 T balsamic vinegar
1 T Dijon style mustard
1 T minced garlic
1 1/2 c Swanson Cooking Broth (Beef Flavor)
1 package of egg noodles

Directions:

Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a 10-inch skillet over medium heat.
Add the beef and cook until well browned, stirring often.
Remove the beef from the skillet.
Heat the remaining oil in the skillet.
Add the shallots and garlic and cook for 5 minutes or until the shallots are lightly browned, stirring occasionally.
Stir the wine and vinegar and Swanson Cooking Broth into the skillet and cook on for 5 – 10 minutes, or until the mixture is reduced by 1/2.
Stir in the mustard.
Return the beef to the skillet and cook until the mixture is hot and bubbling.
Serve the beef mixture with the egg noodles.

Want to try out one of the recipes for yourself? GOOD! Swanson has teamed up with MomStart for a great giveaway. You’ll be able to add some extra, flavory, goodness to some dishes of your own!

A Walk Through New Amsterdam Theater New York

Thanks to Disney we had a backstage tour of the Amsterdam Theater. Our tour guide gave us the whole history of the theater which is quite impressive.

IMG_6400The theater is actually so old it’s a historical landmark.

When they refurbished it, they had to remove a tree, mushrooms on the walls and rats. Yuck! The renovation cost about 45 million dollars which was also the price if you consider inflation that it cost to build the building originally. During the renovation they found that they were quite lucky really because before the theater ran down, all the walls were painted a chocolate brown that preserved everything underneath it. It was so well preserved that they had to actually go in and antique the walls to make the building look historical.

 IMG_6402IMG_6403IMG_6406

There was only one mishap during the renovation. One of the men cleaning the walls broke off the finger on the lady below. To fix it they had to make sure that it looked different from the original so the man made a mold of his thumb and plastered it in place.

IMG_6408

The details on the walls, the elevator and ceilings were ornate and so very beautiful. They did a fantastic job with the renovation if you ask me.

I got to be the Little Mermaid, even though I bet my husband says I look like a cylon. (it’s an inside joke)

IMG_6426IMG_6445

I had such a great time back stage at the New Amsterdam Theater. You might remember that I love to try on costumes and get dressed up. Learning about the history of the theater was interesting and getting to play around with everything was priceless. Some things that looked incredibly heavy were actually lighter than air. And it makes sense, how can a dancer jump around the stage while singing if they have to worry about losing parts of their costumes. Which reminds me, each costume is tailored to fit the cast member specifically. Once you are in you shouldn’t lose or gain any weight and forget about changing your hair at all. If you change your hair then how would your head piece fit. Ready for some fun? Can you guess what this costume is?
