Disney Junior Mickey Mouse ClubHouse Space Adventure Review

The star of one of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment’s newly released movies needs no introduction. He is an icon, the symbol of everything Disney, and the most beloved cartoon character of all time: Mickey Mouse! He has fans throughout the world and of all ages; even my youngest daughter before turning one, wanted her first birthday to be all about Mickey. So if you’ve never heard of Mickey Mouse, then you must be living on Mars!

MMCH_Space_Adventure_DVD_ArtAnd Mars is just where Mickey and his friends are off to in Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment’s newly released movie Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Space Adventure. This 45 minute, full-length intergalactic adventure takes the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse gang – Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and Daisy – into outer space to search for the ultimate space treasure. Geared for kids 2 to 5 years of age, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Space Adventure invites young viewers to discover outer space and use their problem- solving skills while they watch. In this specific adventure, Mickey and pals head to space where they tour the Moon, Mars and the Rings of Saturn as well as meet new alien friends while on the hunt for a unique space treasure.

My daughters couldn’t wait to get the chance to watch this video when it arrived. My youngest daughter, now two and a half, watches Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on Disney Channel daily. This movie did not disappoint her one bit. It stays true to the television show’s objective which is intended to help children use specific age-appropriate problem solving skills, such as identifying shapes, counting, and memory in an entertaining way.

My older daughter, the kindergartner, is a huge Disney fan and has enjoyed just about every Disney movie she has seen. Well, maybe not the ones with scary parts, but that wasn’t an issue with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Space Adventure. Space Pirate Pete is the only character up to no good, but before you know it even he becomes friends with the rest of the gang.

Both my daughters loved the special “treats” included with this DVD: a surprise, never-before-seen “Goofy’s Thinking Cap” episode and fun, glow-in-the-dark space-themed stickers! It’s an out-of-this-world package the kids won’t want to miss!

Released November 8, 2011 as a 2-Disc (DVD + Digital Copy) Combo Pack. Available online and at your favorite retail store. Suggested retail price $19.99 U.S./$24.99 Canada.

From Apps To Games To Groceries Safeway Has Your Holiday Covered

I was spoiled at our old house with home delivery by Safeway. We lived about 20 minutes from the grocery store and I hated to drive that far with two babies. They would always fall asleep on the way home and then that would just mess up my day. So (yes I know 20 minutes is nothing compared to some people) we indulged in Safeway’s home delivery. Now that the kids are older and Safeway is barely 5 minutes away I juts can’t justify the home delivery but it’s SOOOOO tempting, especially during the holiday season.

Not only can you indulge in home delivery but you can also from the comfort of your couch, visit Safeway.com/Holiday to review recipes, entertaining ideas, wine pairings and other helpful tips. I love a good glass of wine. Play a fun game on their Facebook page, the Facebook LOL Turkey Game. Make the turkey laugh to be entered for a chance to win a $100 Safeway gift card!

Then build your list of favorites and come back to see what other inspirations you want to create for your family.  Safeway has created inspirational ideas, recipes, saving tips and tools to make the holidays easier for you and me and I’m all about making things simple. Complication makes me grumpy!

Of course if you have to leave the comfort of your home you can always use your phone. While you’re on the go, use your phone to visit Safeway.com and dive into all of those Holiday Hints that dole out servings of much needed inspiration in my case  to make Thanksgiving special, or make the most of your Thanksgiving leftovers with the array of Leftover Makeover recipes. I hate letting food go to waste and it’s always fun to see new leftover recipes that I haven’t thought of. I use the same one every year.

Safeway

I’m a windows phone kind of girl, but if you’re an iPhone user then download the Safeway Chef Assistant app featuring the Safeway exclusive 2-Hour Turkey Recipe™. The app guides you through step-by-step instructions on how to prep a simply delicious turkey in 2 hours or less. You can also use the app while shopping for your ingredients and cooking tools or as a timer to remind you of important time and temp checks.

Pixar’s Brave Excites Girls

Pixar’s Brave Excites Girls, at least my little girl! Zoe and I have been talking a lot about princesses. My daughter is a little princess. She’s seen most of the Disney princess movies from start to finish, there are a few missing from our collection but as Disney keeps remastering we keep picking them up. Disney’s so smart they know how to get us parents. Anyways, I have a knack at getting way off topic.

Brave posterI was telling Zoe, did you know there’s a princess with red hair like your brother?

“No there’s not mom”

“yes, she’s a new princess”

“WHAT, a new Princess….When, WHY? Can I see her”

“Yes, it’s a new movie out by the people that made Toy Story, Bug’s Life, Cars, ….”

“OHHHHHH MIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLES, did you know there’s a new movie coming out about a new princess and she has hair just like you, I can’t wait to see it can you wait to see it. It’s Coming!”

And I think she mentions this about every day, poor girl, I think I got her too excited too early. She’s going to be talking about it until June 22, 2012!.

BRAVE hits theatres everywhere in Disney Digital 3D on June 22, 2012!

This Brave Trailer makes her even more excited to see the movie. Are your girls excited to see it?

Season Of Giving Day 17: Schools Are Always in Need

By Summer

If you’re a parent, chances are you have a child in school, even if it’s a toddler group or preschool. The thing is schools always need money. ALWAYS! Give and find ways to give savvy.

Toddler Groups / Co-ops – Find out if your program is a 501(c), this will help increase your giving power. Your work might be able to match your donation and/or use the tax deduction. These types of programs might also like to take your physical donations such as gently used books, toys and puzzles.

Woodinville Toddler Group-0002-20100308

Preschool / Kindergarten Prep – Your program might also be a 501(c), check with them and remember to match and/or use the tax deduction. Some programs have fundraisers, which actually fall on the parents, not the children! Some preschools will take physical donations of used books, toys, puzzles, and art supplies.

FWPreschool Dad's Day-0027-20110211

Elementary Schools – Most of their outside funds come from the PTA which will do multiple fundraisers a year to acquire funds to improve the school. Some schools also accept Box Tops for Education and Campbell’s Soup Labels, so collect and turn them in!

Middle School / Junior High – Different programs and clubs will accept private donations, such as rhetoric or band. Students at this age still end up doing fundraisers for the PTA or for extracurricular activities.

High School – This is all about private sponsorship. The yearbook offers ads for the parents of seniors, the newspaper and football programs offer ad space for profit, and uniforms are bought by the participant. Fundraisers are typically held inside the school where students are raising money from students, such as candy-grams at holidays like Halloween or Valentine’s Day. Find a place you’d want to give to your child’s high school or your alma mater.

College / University / Technical SchoolsSometimes you cringle at the money you spent to attend a higher education program where you feel it was worth it or not. Then about 2 years after graduation they want to contact you to donate to the alumni association, your particular program, a dean’s or chancellor’s fund, or other divisions. I’d actually encourage you to join your alumni association if your school has one. Also give at least annually, and if your school is a public or state school check out if the division you’re giving to is a 501(c) which means matching by companies and/or tax deductions.

2000.07.17 - Model Picture 1- Before

One more way you might be able to give money to your schools is to check with your human resources about getting paid to volunteer. My husband’s employer will pay an organization for each hour he volunteers for them. I don’t remember the pay rate, but he has to work 10+ hours within the year. Also the “deal” is non-transferable, so I can’t volunteer in his place.

Giving back to education is paying it forward for your children.

Inside The Muppets: Kermit Says It’s Much Easier Being Green

During that interview with Miss Piggy, I also had the chance to sit down and talk to Kermit the Frog. He’s much more level headed than Miss Piggy and wanted to know about my daughter Zoe, which thrilled me to death when he asked me what her favorite color was. In case you guys don’t know which you should because I talk about Zoe all the time, her favorite color is any shade of purple, lavender just like Miss Piggy is what she would probably say today.

The Muppets

Here are the rest of the highlights from the interview with Kermit.

Q : So what were you doing all these years before you started production on this last movie?

Kermit’s Response:

Oh, lots of stuff. You know, it’s been, it’s been quite a few years since we’ve done a big movie. You know, we haven’t done that in a long time but, uh, we’ve done lots of other stuff that we can talk about. We just thought we were trying to come back to the big screen. We did do the Bohemian Rhapsody so we’ve been together.

Q : Do you find it’s easier to be green, now?

Before I give you his response, you’ve all heard of The Rainbow connection and his song about It isn’t easy being green right. He’s a great singer and one of the best I know at expressing his feelings. So if you hvaen’t seen Being Green, then here it is. It’s not Easy being Green!

Kermit’s Response:

I think so. It’s taken on all these new meanings. When I said that originally, when I sang that song it was about being accepted in the world and these days it’s a lot more about the environment I think, you know. People are kind of taking it to mean that. But, uh, I think it’s just about being comfortable in your own skin. And It can be tough especially in Hollywood so you have to make your place in the film industry.

Q : How did you like your new costars?

Kermit’s Response:

Oh, wonderful. It was wonderful working with Jason. You know, Jason actually wrote this thing to begin with and it went through about 17 thousand rewrites but he’s the guy who wanted to make this movie with us.

The Muppets Are Coming

When asked about children, he said they’re a big responsibility and then Miss Piggy mentioned something about wanting some and well he changed the subject as quickly as he possibly could.

Interview Opportunity and Travel Expenses covered by Disney.

A Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Treat Vanilla! Mega Prize Pack

Most of the time when I think of Ben & Jerry’s Ice cream I think of crazy flavor options. But what’s at the basis of most of those flavors? It’s just plain vanilla ice cream and you have to start out with good ice cream for your concoction to taste good too.

imageCo-founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield knew there needed to be a creamy, delicious ice cream that could stand on its own before adding any chunks and swirls. Since 1978 the duo stirred up every imaginable flavor combination – many that had never been tried before. Still, Greenfield and Cohen are quick to point out that the first flavor an ice cream maker must perfect is the one without any chunks or swirls whatsoever. That’s why their first flavor was: Vanilla.

I really do love ice cream and could eat it at any time. Vanilla is nice because it’s so versatile, a complement to pie, banana splits, shakes, and sundae’s. YUM! Ben & Jerry’s Vanilla ice cream is made with fresh wholesome milk from Vermont Family Farmers and Fair Trade vanilla beans, meaning that third world farmers are paid a fair price for their harvest. Ben & Jerry’s vanilla mixes rich and creamy taste with socially conscious business, making the flavor a sweet treat for all!

You may even be surprised to learn that Ben & Jerry’s plain old Vanilla has won tons of awards and accolades over the years and Vanilla is the best-selling flavor in Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shops nationwide. So that being said, just in time for Thanksgiving, I’m teaming up with Ben & Jerry’s to offer you a reader giveaway for the perfect holiday pie complement: Ben & Jerry’s Vanilla Ice Cream.

You can learn more about Ben & Jerry’s or find your local Scoop Shop by visiting www.benjerry.com or by becoming a fan of Ben & Jerry’s on Facebook.
