Sends Some Cheer Cheerios® and the USO #MyBlogSpark

I love working with MyBlogSpark because I love General Mills and their products. You can just look through my archives to know it’s true. It feels like forever since I’ve worked with them and this time we’re bringing you a bit more charity. This is something that’s really easy to do with Cheerios for the USO. Send some Cheer, Cheerios Cheer.

cheerios_logo

When our troops are called to serve, their families must rise to meet the challenges of service as well. To thank them, Cheerios® and the USO have partnered in a postcard campaign that spreads Cheer directly to these honorable military families and supports USO programs.

Here´s how it works:

  • Now through November, 2011 at your local grocer, specially-marked boxes of Cheerios cereal will feature Cheer postcards on the front of the box. Consumers can simply cut out the postcard from the Cheerios logo, write a message of thanks on the back, add a stamp and mail the pre-addressed card to the USO. The USO will deliver the Cheer card to military families across the country.
  • For each postcard received through November 2012, Cheerios will make a $1 donation to the USO to help fund programs that support military families.
  • To kick off the campaign, Cheerios has already donated $150,000 to the USO and will donate up to an additional $100,000 based upon the number of postcards received from specially marked boxes now through November 30th, 2012.

Barista Prima Coffeehouse K-Cup Portion Packs & GreenMountain Discount Code

This month I received the Barista Prima Coffeehouse® K-Cup® portion packs from GreenMountain as part of the Your Perfect Cup Ambassador program that I’m part of and for the first time, I really didn’t like the coffee very much. Now, before you X this coffee brand off your list you need to know why I don’t like it because it might just be your next coffee brand. You see, this coffee is STOUT, strong, deep, rich, it’s not a sweet cup of Joe. I like sweet, my husband on the other hand, he likes a stronger cup of coffee than I do so this has been his month.

IMG_5836

the Barista Prima Coffeehouse® K-Cup® portion packs from GreenMountain  are an exclusive collection of the world’s finest Arabica coffees roasted in the tradition of Europe’s most celebrated coffee houses. They are designed for the passionate coffee lover, the richest, darkest varieties for the Keurig® brewer are now available at the touch of a button.

· Barista Prima Coffeehouse® K-Cup® portion packs are available in four varieties:

Colombia

Medium-dark Roast
High-altitude treasure from a land of legendary coffee
Accented by wondrously bright, bold fruit notes and a distinctive hint of walnut, this deeply roasted cup elevates satisfaction into a realm all its own

House Blend

Medium-dark Roast
The timeless perfection of your best-loved coffee house cup
Classically balanced with a lively splash of citrus, subtle hints of bittersweet chocolate and a well-rounded, toasted-nut finish

Italian Roast

Dark Roast
A deep, dark-roasted delight, done right
This robust, heavy-bodied cup with its ripe fruit and berry notes epitomizes the time-honored Italian tradition of dark-roasted coffee house brews
Subtle hint of smokiness and a bright clean finish

French Roast

Darkest Roast
Sweet, smoky love song to the cafés of Paris
Daringly dark, smoky-sweet brew with a surprisingly light mouth feel
This intensely bold, elegantly-bodied cup provides indisputable proof of our roast masters’ consummate artistry

Out of these four blends the only one that I kind of liked was the House Blend, the next one I would drink would be the Columbia but I really gave all of these flavors to my husband because for me to like them I had to have half a cup of creamer with them. Really, I like my coffee sweet! I’m a sugar girl.

Crazy Stupid Love

Crazy Stupid Love came out earlier this month to DVD and Blu-ray. Crazy Stupid Love is a romantic comedy that’s warm and tender. It’s a movie you’re husband would probably call a chick flick but one that you’ll want him to watch with you.

1000206289BRDFLTOCrazy Stupid Love Synopsis: At fortysomething, straight-laced Cal Weaver (Steve Carell) is living the dream—good job, nice house, great kids and marriage to his high school sweetheart.  But when Cal learns that his wife, Emily (Julianne Moore), has cheated on him and wants a divorce, his “perfect” life quickly unravels.  Worse, in today’s single world, Cal, who hasn’t dated in decades, stands out as the epitome of un-smooth.  Now spending his free evenings sulking alone at a local bar, the hapless Cal is taken on as wingman and protégé to handsome, thirtysomething player Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling).  In an effort to help Cal get over his wife and start living his life, Jacob opens Cal’s eyes to the many options before him: flirty women, manly drinks and a sense of style that can’t be found at Supercuts or The Gap.  Cal and Emily aren’t the only ones looking for love in what might be all the wrong places: Cal’s 13-year-old son, Robbie (Jonah Bobo), is crazy about his 17-year-old babysitter, Jessica (Analeigh Tipton), who harbors a crush on Cal.  And despite Cal’s makeover and his many new conquests, the one thing that can’t be made over is his heart, which seems to keep leading him back to where he began.

This film has been rated PG-13 for coarse humor, sexual content and language. Crazy Stupid Love is now available on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital download. Emma Stone is adorable in everything she’s in. She’s an amazing actress and was spot on in Crazy Stupid Love.

We received a sample from Warner Brothers for this review.

Doctor Who: The Complete Sixth Series

DR WHO COMPLETE S6 BD and SD

I’ve been waiting for Doctor Who The Complete Sixth Series to come out after being teased with only the first half of the series. I had to know what happened to River and wow, the series is getting interesting. In the first half of the Series Dr. Who was killed, but we didn’t know who did it they were wearing a space suit. Now as I was watching that episode we found out that there was a little girl a space suit back in 1969, I think was the year. That girl was River, but I never once thought it was the same spacesuit, but now it makes sense why the doctor would send them there. Are you confused yet?

Doctor Who has a way of confusing you into enjoying what you’re watching. On November 22nd, Whovians can join The Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) and Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) as they make their triumphant return in a season filled with fresh thrills, new monsters and pulse-pounding adventures. Plentiful extras include a 60-minute Christmas Special; Doctor Who Confidential, an inside look at each episode; audio commentary; trailers and more.

Doctor Who: The Complete Sixth Series is excellent. I think when I reviewed the first half of Doctor Who The Complete Sixth Series I said that I miss David Tennant, well, I’m over it. Matt Smith is a really good Doctor Who. I’m really interested to see how it ends and if they are planning on ending the series all together or if the Doctor finds a way to save his own life even if it creates the biggest time paradox ever. Did River really kill The Doctor? Does she even know who she killed. I need Spoilers people!

Season of Giving Day 26: Help Zoos And Aquariums

By Summer:

If you have a house of animals lovers like I do (my sons, 2YO and 4YO), give to your local zoos and aquariums. Zoo and aquariums don’t only offer entertainment but they offer animal care to creatures both domestic and foreign. Ways to give to your zoo or aquarium include:

· Attendance – GO! GO! GO! By simply showing a zoo or aquarium to your children you’re supporting their animal causes. If you want to take your attendance to the next level support your local zoo and/or aquarium by purchasing a membership. Memberships also make a great eco gift.

Omaha-0058-20110614

· Adopt – Many zoos and aquariums offer animal “adoption” which is actually more like sponsorship. This helps support a specific animals for a year; you’d help feed and maintain the animal with your adoption. Your zoo or aquarium might also offer thank you gifts for your support, such as a picture and profile of your animal, a stuffed animal representation of your animal, special membership admissions and packages, year’s calendar, and other swag.

· Education – Through camps and special programs your zoo and aquarium will not only help peak the interest of animal lovers, but they will inform them as well. Thus helps the cycle of loving it so much you want to help which usually means giving, whether that’s of time or money.

· Volunteer – Nothing is really more valuable than time. Time is money but almost anyone can give money; to show you really care, give time! Check with your local zoo or aquarium for information on how you or our family can volunteer. Keep in mind so dedicated hours of training may be required. There is also usually a minimum age requirement due to responsibility.

If you’re not sure what is available in your area check out the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). AZA also offers the same opportunities presented above though if you get or give a membership the pass applies to all the associations’ partnering zoos and aquariums nationally.

Get involved locally and give to your zoo or aquarium. This is a great cause as it’s fun at ANY age!

Sweet & Sour Pineapple Turkey Recipe

So Thanksgiving was last week and you might have quite a bit of Turkey left over. We usually have a lot of turkey left over because it’s usually just the four of us and one big bird. Which leaves me racking my brain for tasty left over ideas. Use World Harbors Marinade to turn these Turkey leftovers into Sweet & Sour Pineapple Turkey.

Mattel’s Disney Princess Ultimate Dream Castle

Matte’s Disney Princess Ultimate Dream Castle is amazing in detail and stature. In the box it actually looks a little small but once it’s all put together it’s taller than the kids. It took my husband an hour and 20 minutes to put together (of course that was with four little hands helping, perhaps it could have gone faster).

IMG_5779

IMG_5784

A little tea party while daddy was putting a few things together.

 IMG_5789

No tools needed for assembly, well except to put in 2 double A batteries for the doorbell, and toilet that flushes. Zoe snapped a few pieces into place all by herself

IMG_5792

Once the Disney Princess Ultimate Dream Castle was finished the playtime began. One, Zoe already has a few princesses plus Mattel sent us one of the  2-in-1 Ballgown Surprise Princesses (sold separately from the castle). So the kids put the furniture in and we found that each princess had their own room. Zoe was sad to find out that Mulan and Jasmine didn’t get their own room. Jasmine did have a flying carpet elevator, but Zoe felt that just wasn’t enough.

But that didn’t hold her attention long, she played and played and played with the Disney Princess Ultimate Dream Castle. Of course Miles got in on the fun too. He played with Rapunzel, but she doesn’t have a room either. . IMG_5807

So, who does have a room? Ariel has a bathtub in the bathroom, Sleeping Beauty has a bed in the bedroom, Snow white has a mirror and make up dresser, Tiana has the kitchen to cook in, and Belle has the dining room to serve in. I suppose you could say the tower is for Rapunzel to let down her hair, either way, this castle is not lacking at all. Everything you need except the batteries is included in the castle. The furniture is outstanding, the entire dining room set and even a bath towel. It’s amazing. Plus Zoe was tickled pink when she found that it made sounds. I remember her running from her room, Mommy, Daddy, you have to come see the sounds it makes. She’s in heaven, and even understand that we’re going to donate it to a child that is in need.

Now for the 2-in-1 Ballgown Surprise Princesses. They sent us two Cinderella’s so we’re donating one of those the The Holiday 2011 Tweetdrive. But the other one we had to open and play with it. Zoe loves that the dress changes from one dress to another and she even took it to show in tell for the letter C.

Watch how easy it is to change the princess’s dresses. I love the two-in-one costumes:

Inside The Muppets Domination with James Bobin

James Bobin, the director of the Muppets took the time to sit down with us for an interview about The Muppets and his journey with bringing them back to the big screen. Just in case you don’t know who James Bobin is, he’s a British director and producer and one of the most inventive comedic writers in television. He created, wrote and executive produced the hit series “Flight of the Conchords” for HBO and played a key role in making it one of “Time” magazine’s top five new television series in 2007. The show garnered seven Emmy® nominations including Outstanding Comedy Series. For his work on “Flight of the Conchords,” Bobin received back-to-back nominations for Outstanding Directing and Writing as well as a Writers Guild Award nomination. Bobin currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife Francesca, daughter Madelaine and son Jack.

The Muppets

Way back in January I was on the movie set of The Muppets and I saw a lot of the secrets in making the movie. Making a movie with puppets and puppeteers is quite complicated and takes twice as long as filming a regular movie because they have to cut holes in the set, and film twice as many times. Bobin knew going into this that it would take a very long time filming, but he said,

I knew, coming into this that that was what it would involve ’cause, you know, the moment you start using puppets and you don’t have legs, then the world gets a lot harder for you. So I knew it coming into it.

We also asked him if there was a different in directing Muppets verses people. He said it was the same:

I say none because you are directing them to act in a certain way and humans deal with their emotional things with their face and with puppeteers it is with their hands. But the direction you give is the same.

The MuppetsIf you read my review you know that I found The Muppet movie to be great for my generation but it was also a movie to introduce a new generation to  The Muppets. So we asked Bobin “What did you do to make the Muppets fresh for this generation?” He said the secret to that was just letting The Muppets be true to themselves and Miss Piggy, well all of them I thought were very true to who they always have been.

But each character would then have their own moment to show the thing they do, so it could make sense if you had no idea who they are.

An interesting fact that I learned was that The Muppets were filmed in England for 5 years.

It was written by Americans and performed by Americans, but the director and the technical staff were all English. And the actual Muppet Theater itself is an old musical theater, which is a London thing rather than a New York thing. So it felt very English in a weird way. But also I think the tone of it, the sense of the, sense of humor is really quite English.

We also asked him what he thought of working with Jason Segel and he said it was quite easy. It turns out that they had the same vision and wanted the same thing for the movie so they got along great.

I mean, you can’t ask for more than that because I mean he really cares about it and so really always gives extra a hundred and ten percent which is fantastic. So as a director I couldn’t ask for more.

THE MUPPETS

The Muppets is now in theaters and you should go see it. It’s a fantastic generational movie.

Disney/Dreamworks paid for my travel and expenses for the press junket.

You can show your support by Liking the Small Business Saturday Facebook page and don’t forget to shop.
