Monopoly: Electronic Banking Edition Review

I’ve mentioned Monopoly a few times here at MomStart. It’s one of my all time favorite games to play and my completely favorite collectors item. I have more than a few different varieties in my closet. So when Hasbro sent out their monthly media news blast and there was a review opportunity to review Monopoly: Electronic Banking Edition Review I jumped right on that.

image

The Monopoly Electronic Banking Edition is very much like the Monopoly Revolution that we reviewed before, but it’s not as cool. The board is square as opposed to circular and the electronic calculator doesn’t sing Elton John music to me during the game.

Electronic Monopoly board game

What it does have is 6 really fun modern tokens. There is a cell phone, a skateboard, a race car, an airplane and a cheeseburger. The houses are blue, the usual 2 dice, 32 houses and 12 hotels in blue and sliver. You have credit cards instead of paper money. That was always the worst part about playing, putting back all the money and organizing it.  It retails for 32.99.

The game play is the same, and as I mentioned above much like Monopoly Revolution. It’s a much faster paced version of Monopoly and it’s much easier to keep up with the money since the electronic device does all of it for you. You just swipe your card to pay and to get money every time you pass go. Thanks to the handheld banking unit, you can check your cash balance immediately and track your cash electronically as you buy properties, pay bills, or collect gifts and debts from your opponents.

image

I think I just played this game in the wrong order. If I had played this first and then went to Monopoly Revolution I would have loved both, but after having played Monopoly Revolution this one pales in comparison. One thing to mention is is much quieter than Monopoly Revolution.

Ben 10 Toy Line Up & D3 Ben 10 Galactic Racing Nintendo DS

I had quite a unique opportunity when Time To Play invited me to their Time To Play Holiday Showcase two months ago. At that time it was really hard for me to start thinking about Christmas but here I am now ready and already feeling a bit behind in Holiday Shopping. Ben 10 is a special treat for our family because it’s the most memorable time our family had as a family as far as blogging trips go. My kids still talk about the trip D3 took us on to introduce us to their Holiday Christmas Line Up a few years ago, and that included Ben 10. So I had to share the Ben 10 Toy Line up for 2011 along with the newest D3 Video game Ben 10 Galactic Racing.

The Ben 10 Galactic Racing Game, this time featuring the Nintendo DS

ben 10 galactic racing

So all of the basic information is the same about D3’s Ben 10 Galactic Racing video game as the previous post I wrote. It’s the same premise, but made smaller and was harder for me to play. The Kids had no problem with it.

Key Features

  • Become a Champion! – Select a character and compete against opponents in a circuit of action-packed, high-speed races in increasingly challenging tracks filled with offensive and defensive pick-ups, where players earn awards along the way.
  • Enjoy a BEN 10 Multiplayer Experience Like Never Before – The first BEN 10 racing game allows players to compete against up to three friends to become the champion racer.
  • Race as Your Favorite Characters – Players can race as Ben, who can transform into aliens mid-race, or as other characters from the BEN 10 universe, each of which can use unique attacks themed to that character’s abilities. New alien hero Fasttrack makes his video game debut and as a DS exclusive, play as popular alien hero Diamondhead.
  • Fun and Challenging Grand Prix Tracks – Players can burn rubber on more than 12 distinct race tracks on three massive worlds. Players can also race in 12 fun karts, some based on vehicles seen in the BEN 10 series.

D3 Presents Ben 10 Galactic Racing Xbox 360

Racing games are my favorite kind of video games, always have been and always will be. I just love racing around the track and Ben 10 Galactic Racing brings a new fun adventure to the screen with the Omnimatrix of changing characters and powers. It’s like Mario Kart in a way but at the same time different. It’s Ben 10 and you can play as either Ben, Kevin or choose from 13 fan-favorite aliens. BEN 10 Galactic Racing presents the ultimate racing experience, where every character has a special ability to utilize on the race track and even Ben can transform into different aliens mid-race!  We played this as a family one night. Zoe against dad, mom against Miles and Zoe against Miles and Dad against Mom. We just kept taking turns until our hands hurt. It was a fun family night in. I had a great time playing and loved using my power ups to make my husband crash! Yep, I’m that kind of wife.

The Game Premise:

Every one thousand years, the Galvan alien species holds a celebration in space, where aliens from all over the galaxy attend a high-speed race. In BEN 10 Galactic Racing, players will compete as Ben himself, or choose from 15 fan-favorite aliens, in the Galactic Grand Prix Race that takes place in more than 25 exhilarating and challenging grand-prix tracks spread across five different planets from the BEN 10 universe.

This fast-paced and interstellar racer is coming this Fall to PS3, PSP, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, Nintendo 3DS and Wii.Img2

New alien hero Fasttrack makes his video game debut!
  • Fun and Challenging Grand Prix Tracks – Players can burn rubber on more than 25 distinct race tracks, which include extreme courses that shift mid-race, on five massive worlds. Players can also choose from more than 30 karts, some based on vehicles seen in the BEN 10 series, and others are available as special unlockables.

Our only complaint would be that the Xbox 360 gamer points are only available in single person mode. It’s quite a bit of fun earning gamer points. It’s one of my husband’s main objectives when he’s playing a game.

Season of Giving Day 14 The Pajama Program

Season of Giving has been going quite well and we’re up to day 14. What does that mean, this is the 14th idea that Summer has shared with all of us to get us into the giving spirit. What are you going to give this season?

By Summer:

One of my favorite things is my pajamas. I love to be comfortable … all the time. Even now at 32YO, I can be caught in public in my pajamas. Everyone should have a nice comfy pair of pajamas. That’s where Pajama Program comes in “delivering warm sleepwear and nurturing books to children in need”. There are chapters all around the United States and Internationally.

Pajama Program logo

Pajama Program celebrated 10 years this year. Their goal for 2011 is 500,000 items and they’re at 208,205 items – 92,599 new pajamas and 115,606 new books – and counting! Since their beginning in 2001, Pajama Program has collected 891,808 new pajamas and 511,599 new books. Pajama Program is sponsored by corporate supporters Carter’s, Scholastic Book Club, PBS Sprout, Blackman-Rakowitz Public Relations, and UPS as well as other partners. Nothing is possible, however, without contributions from caring individuals.Pajama Program - PJ & Book

To financial help Pajama Program you can donate money (a minimum of $5). Find your local chapter and hold your own pajama and book drive. If you’re feeling called to start your own chapter and there’s not one in your area contact Pajama Program.

To stay connected you can register to receive their newsletter or follow co-founder, Genevieve Piturro’s blog. Or simply support Pajama Program by liking them on Facebook and following them on Twitter @PajamaProgram.

The Family Storybook Treasury

One of Miles’ favorite stories is the one about the monkeys jumping off the bed. We have one that’s 8 little monkeys jumping off the bed but I think the original story is called Five Little Monkeys. He knows the book and can recite it over and over again. I even heard him singing the song to himself as he was getting ready for bed tonight. He’s my silly little monkey you know!

My Little monkey

I recently received The Family Storybook Treasury and I was looking through it this evening and saw Five little Monkeys and of course I thought of him. Now my daughter, she just loves any story. She loves to have us read to her and has since she was a baby. So I know she’s going to love this book when she sees it.

Now what was unexpected was my husband’s reaction to the book.

As I was looking through it he recognized one of the stories in it. He recognized the story Mike Mulligan. He said he can’t remember why he remembers it but he does and he’s going to enjoy reading it to the kids. That’s what The Family Storybook Treasure is all about sharing it and passing it on from generation to generation.

Here is the Full Family Storybook Treasury Synopsis

Family, friends, your favorite characters…bring them all together at story time! Share the book that is sure to entertain, delight, and make the whole gang laugh. The Family Storybook Treasury is a collection of your most well-loved picture books and poetry, now available in one beautiful keepsake volume with bonus audio CD!

Includes eight complete picture books:

•          Curious George and the Firefighters by Margret and H. A. Rey

•          Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed by Eileen Christelow

American Express Savvy Shopping Top 10 Reader Mistakes

For the American Express Savvy Shopping Mistakes giveaway you guys were asked to list your personal shopping mistakes. While we were sifting through all of them we found that many of you, myself included are making the same mistakes. Oh and the winner of the giveaway was scottsgal.

AMEX-Logo

Not signing up for and using a store rewards/points program.

I believe in signing up for any and all free points programs like the American Express Membership Rewards. If a store has a points program, I sign up, then use my credit card and wrap up points from the store and from the credit card. Costco is a really great store that gives you twice the rewards using American Express.

Buying something you don’t need just because it’s a good deal.

Buying clothes when you can’t check their size or return them when they don’t fit.

I’m guilty of this one, but have worked on it quite a bit. My advice is, if you can get it for free then don’t pass it up. But if it’s not free and you don’t NEED it and you’re not giving it to charity keep walking! Don’t buy it.

Not returning something you really should return.

Oh I’ve been guilty of this one too. Sometimes returning something seems like a pain in the rear. You have to get out of the house and back to the store and returning things on-line is a hassle too. It’s best just to think about every purchase before you make it, but sometimes it happens and you determine it wasn’t right for you. Make sure you return it and pay attention to the store’s return policy. If you wait too long you might not even be able to return it.

Bought something that was a good deal, but the product ended up being poor quality.

Impulse buying and not searching for the best deal or using coupons.

Not reading the checking the product details, reading reviews, and reading the fine print and store policies.

Do your research before buying a products. I know that I’ve been guilty of buying something just because it’s a good deal. I may not have needed it or it may have turned out to be a dud. Well, just a little research, reading reviews, looking at product demos, or by going into a store and actually playing with the product would save you the trouble. Do your homework before buying.

American Express Return Protection can be used when a Cardmember no longer wants an item they purchased but the merchant’s return policy has expired and they will no longer take the item back. Return Protection refunds the full purchase price of an item up to $300, excluding shipping and handling of eligible items bought with the Card for up to 90 days from the date of purchase. The maximum annual refund is $1,000 annually per Card account.

Buying from third party sellers, auctions and shady websites.

You need to make sure that people you buy from are verified sellers, or trusted retailers. Also, it’s important to understand how your credit card will protect you when you purchase something on-line from an untrusted vendor. American Express Purchase Protection can protect eligible purchases made with the Card against accidental damage and theft for up to 90 days from the date of purchase. This service can be used when something a Cardmember buys is broken or stolen. With Purchase Protection, American Express will repair, replace, or reimburse up to the amount charged to the Card, not to exceed the original purchase price. Coverage is up to $1,000 per Occurrence, up to $50,000 per Cardmember Account per Calendar Year.

Buying a car or other big purchases that can’t be returned.

Again, you need to do your research before buying a larger item.

And the final mistake…..Having your credit card info stolen (online or at a store) or even accidentally leaving your card at a store.

American Express does protect you against stolen credit cards and identity theft.

ID Theft Assistance:

Identity Theft Assistance provides 24/7 service for Cardmembers who suspect they may be a victim of identity theft. This service helps Cardmembers detect identity theft and navigate the process of recovering their good name.  (Provided at no cost on all Cards)

Fraud Protection Guarantee:

All Cardmembers will not be held responsible for any fraudulent charges when they use their American Express Card.

I’m receiving products from the American Express Membership Rewards program as compensation for this program.

Chuggington Die-Cast Chugger Championship Deluxe Race Playset

When I was at the Time To Play Event I saw everything that Tomy (used to be Learning Curve) is putting out this Holiday Season the way of Trains. It’s an exciting line up for boys like my son that just love anything with wheels. Miles has three train sets already. One being a plastic Thomas set, one being a wooden Chuggington set we got last year and the last being a LEGO set. He plays with them all and the cars go on all the tracks even thought they don’t fit. Size is no limit to children’s imagination. They remind me of that every day. Anyways, new toys from Learning Curve include:

The Dinosaur Train Time Tunnel Mountain Set

image

Thomas’s Percy at the Diesel Works Set

image

And the big one, the Chuggington Die-Cast Chugger Championship Rev’n Race Railway Deluxe Playset. Now, our kids are fan of all three shows, however, Chuggington is the top choice when it comes to what we watch. We watch Chuggington all the time.

image

This year, we’re getting the Chuggington Die-Cast Chugger Championship Rev’n Race Railway Deluxe Playset for Miles for Christmas. It was sent to us on behalf of the Chuggington Brand for us to review and it’s been impossible to review it without Miles being home. I really want this to be a surprise so I’ve finally decided that it’s just time to host this giveaway.

Chuggington Die-Cast Chugger Championship Deluxe Race Playset

Kids will love racing engines around this multi-level continuous loop track layout to win the championship trophy. Turn the crank to start the race and watch the Chugger Championship engines race around the track. Set includes Chugger Championship Koko and Harrison. Ages 3 and up. SRP: $59.99

This set is a HUGE set. It was so big at the time to play event it was impossible to get a god picture of. Actually, I’m not even sure it was on the table. It is kid-powered meaning it does not require batteries. Place Koko in the automatic gate and start cranking to watch her zoom through the track! When Koko wins, the trophy pops up as she completes a victory lap and refuels at the fuel depot. Miles has a toy for cars similar to this so I know just by looking at it that it’s going to be a HUGE hit. It’s Trains!

Also in the Chuggington Line up are the new Chuggington “Chugger Championship” DVD and fun puzzle featuring some of your favorite Chuggington characters and destinations.

Chugger Championship DVD

In “The Chugger Championship,” the traintastic trio is ready to put their “wheels to the rails” for the biggest race in Chuggington!  These six, action-packed adventures will have the whole family cheering. Young fans join Wilson, Brewster and Koko as they prepare for a test, invent a new contest and pick up a fun hobby, while learning about the importance of accountability and responsibility.  Along the way, the three friends – and viewers at home – discover that a true champion isn’t always the one who finishes first!

Season of Giving Day 13 Soap Hope

I don’t know about you guys, but I know that I’ve really enjoyed reading about all of the different giving opportunities.  It’s Day 13 and today’s giving is a review and how the purchase of Soap Hope has Good Return!

By Summer:

Soap Hope is a for-profit company with a non-profit mission. Soap Hope is different than other companies, even other “giving” companies Mom Start has introduced this month, because with your shopping trip ALL (yes, 100%) of the profits from any purchase go to provide opportunities to empower women in poverty in the United States and around the world. Soap Hope wants to help lift these women out of poverty using resources such as healthcare, education, and opportunity (such as starting a business with a low-interest loan). Soap Hope calls these efforts Good ReturnsTM.

IMG_4087

Soap Hope sells amazing products. Soap Hope’s products are either all-natural, eco-friendly or socially conscious though many are all three! Mom Start got a little sample kit of Soap Hope products and they were all great products for my body and clothing. Soap Hope offers soap, cosmetics, face, bath, body, and home products. I received Biokleen Laundry Liquid, Pangea Organics Balancing Oil, two mini soap bars – Indigo Wild’s Zum Bar Soap in Oatmeal Lavendar and A Wild Soap Bar in Sassafras, Acure Day Cream, Zum – body and wash – liquid soaps, and Mahya blush. My one complaint was the soaps are VERY fragrant, so be sure you like the scent you’re ordering!Soap Hope - Soap

Soap Hope is for smart shoppers who care about high quality products and about helping other people. Soap Hope is another retailer you can really feel good about purchasing from this holiday season and year round as they practice Good ReturnsTM. Soap Hope helps women as they are the key in ending the cycle of poverty as moms/women typically save more, invest more, and are most likely to use their earnings to educate their children thus break the cycle of poverty.Soap Hope - mission

Don’t only shop at Soap Hope, but Like them at Soap Hope Facebook and follow them on Twitter @SoapHope. All methods show your support for their mission.

Sears Presents People’s Pick Your Own Sale

Everyone loves a good sale right, I know I do and right now I need a new dress, a glamorous dress to wear to the red carpet premier of War Horse in New York City with Stephen Spielberg. Ok, I’ll be lucky if I even get to meet him, but he will be there and I’ll be there and I’m going to see his amazing interpretation of the play War Horse. So I need the perfect dress because this is big. But not just any dress will do and it has to be the right price.

So if I could pick the dress I want and have it go on sale just in time for my event I would feel like I won the lottery. Well that’s kind of the idea behind Sears People’s Pick. Sears will have a list of popular items for us to vote what goes on sale next.

Sears People's Pick

Everything is listed in a category, so the first thing you do is pick a category. Then you vote for what you want to go on sale. You can vote for products in the categories every Sunday through Tuesday. The categories are for him, Techie, Kids, Chef, Entertainer, Her, Teens, Trendsetters, Sports Fan, and DIY-er.  So go pick your People’s Pick tomorrow, which happens to be Sunday in the category that meets your needs. Then the winning items will have incredible limited-time savings online and in stores nationwide.

Monica Woo, Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer at Sears says that, "The Sears People’s Pick feature allows our customer to win—by getting the most value for their money on the products they want." So it’s all about getting what you want this Holiday Season at a great value. I’m hoping that tomorrow when the voting starts they have some really fancy dresses or other fabulous shoes to vote on in the Trendsetters or Her category that I can purchase for my upcoming red carpet premiere of War Horse in New York December 4th.

I have been compensated to work with Sears over the next few weeks, but I’ve shopped at Sears for so many years, and will continue to shop there. My opinion is not swayed by compensation.
