Whirlpool Duet Washer & Dryer Specialty Cycles & Fun Features #Whirlpoolmoms

The Whirlpool Duet Washer and Dryer have been in my home for a few months now. I’ve used the Affresh Clean cycle twice now and I’m still very happy with how it works. Today, I wanted to take you all a little deeper into the Specialty cycles. I made a video for all of you to watch but understand that some of you just aren’t into watching videos. So you can read about the specialty cycles down below.

The washer’s easy-‐to-‐fill liquid detergent reservoir can hold up to 36 loads in one fill! I love how it just knows how much soap to use for each cycle and I can run it quite a few times before needing to refill it. I must not be filling it all the way because I’ve never made it 36 loads. I’m only filling it to the line, which must be the halfway mark and not the fill line, because I would say that I get about 15 loads in-between each fill.

The washer senses load conditions and manages the precise release of each additive at the right time during the cycle for optimal fabric care and cleaning. So far the only additive I have used is the laundry detergent. There is also a place for bleach and fabric softener.

whirlpool specialty features

Smart temperature control helps reduce shrinking and color bleeding and the washer offers 14 specialty fabric care cycles. One thing I hate is fading, so I love that I can keep my blacks black and my colors bright! I used to always thing that it had nothing to do with the washing machine. I always thought it relied solely on what type of laundry detergent you use. Care control temperature management enabled by 6th Sense technology helps protect your clothes by controlling water amount and temperature.

With so many cycle options you can choose from Hand Wash Cycle, which mimics washing in the sink for care of hand wash only garments, to Deep Clean Steam Option, which penetrates deep into fabric fibers, breaking down and dissolving stains like grass and grease without pretreating. The specialty cycles let you wash kids clothes as if they were dirtier than everything else. Cause you know they are. Also you can wash blankets on a blanket setting and jeans on a jeans setting. Many of the settings you can change the water temperature or how hard the spin cycle runs. There is a my specialty cycle that is completely customizable and saved on the machine for your next run.

Then and Now A 10 Year Anniversary or Two

Do you remember what your life was like 10 years ago? Has anything improved or changed? For me 10 years ago I was getting ready for a special day. I was still in college and counting down the days to graduation. I was also looking forward to moving from Oklahoma/Texas to start a new life with my fiancé. Andrew and I have been together for over 10 years, but this next June we’re going to be celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary. So when I was asked to share a picture of myself from 10 years ago, I figured a wedding picture was close enough.

image

Life was simple then. I had work, school and time for friends.

Flash forward ten years and I’m a mother of two, working from home, and even with preschooler’s feel like a mad mom in a mini van. We have school, groceries, activities, cleaning. I’m running the house, I’m running a business, and raising kids. I would say the one thing that hasn’t changed is that I was on my computer as much then as I am now. 10 years ago I was using my laptop to find a job for after graduation. Now I’m using it to work. I never would have seen myself 10 years ago being a stay at home mom and having my own business at the same time. I never would have imagined myself getting to experience things like waling the red carpet, interviewing celebrities weekly, and having the two adorable children that I have. I wouldn’t trade the job of being a mom for anything though!

In the technology field 10 years feels like 100 given how quickly products morph, grow and fall out of fashion. The price of a computer has gown down and everything inside of them is bigger and better. Speaking of technology,  did you know that Windows XP and Office are 10 years old this month too? Time flies by!

Celebrate Windows XP’s 10 year anniversary by sharing what life was like 10 years ago for you.

Date Night at the Movies: The Way

By Summer

clip_image002

The Way [PG-13] is an inspiring movie about living life. This is a father-son relationship movie about Tom and Daniel Avery, staring father Martin Sheen (born Ramon Antonio Gerard Estevez) and his son Emilio Estevez. Tom, played by Sheen, needs to be reminded how to live life again, and he learns how to thanks to his son Daniel while walking the Camino de Santiago or The Way of Saint James. During The Way, Tom’s fast pace, well-connected LA regime is challenged by the contrasting lifestyle of Daniel. This is a deep movie but is lightened with the friendships of a Dutchman, Canadian, and Irishman. For any softies, such as me, I’d recommend a tissue or two as you might need it between laughs.

I really liked the movie and felt inspired to get out and make a difference in my life and even walk the Camino de Santiago, though I saw it at night so we didn’t walk anywhere afterwards besides to our car. I enjoyed the personal paradigm shift of the characters in the movie; not everyone is who you think they are in the beginning. I’d recommend seeing The Way in theaters firstly because it’s a movie about being with other people who are complete strangers and sharing similar feelings despite different backgrounds just like sitting in the theater, and secondly because I believe in supporting independent films.

The Way is an independent film not only staring Estevez, but Estevez wrote the screenplay and directed the movie. The Way is being theatrically released throughout the United States; it came out on October 7, but didn’t make it to Seattle until today (October 21). Be sure and check your local theater for availability and viewing times. If you see The Way this weekend then take a picture of you and your spouse in front of the movie poster, and you could win one of five movie posters signed by Sheen and Estevez by posting to Facebook. You can also follow The Way Team on Twitter @TheWayTheMovie and join others in discussions about the movie using hashtag #thewaymovie.

A Front Door Makeover From Brown To Red Glidden Trim & Door Paint

Earlier this year Glidden introduced a brand new type of paint. No mixing, shaking or second coats needed. Really! I didn’t believe it so Glidden sent me 1 quart of paint to put it to the test, I transformed my front door from brown to red.

IMG_5416

First I made sure the door was clean and then taped off the window and door frame. We also took all the handles and knobs off. The paint said no drip, no spill, but I’m quite accident prone so, I was extra careful. When I opened the can, I found that the paint was very thick. That’s part of the secret, the technology behind the paint keeps you from spilling and dripping. The new Glidden Trim & Door, is an industry-first innovation that amazingly leaves behind no drips or brush marks, making it easier than ever to paint interior and exterior trim, doors, furniture and more. As I was painting I felt like I was getting all kinds of paint brush marks. So I had to look at the directions again.

IMG_5420

The can says that you need to apply a generous even amount of paint to the surface. So I went back and made sure that I had an even amount of paint on the entire door. It wasn’t exactly a second coat because the paint was still wet and most of it was fine. My husband looked at the door and said you’re probably going to have to do a second coat. I thought, the same but told him we needed to wait and see how it dried.

IMG_5436

The next day we both agreed, the door looked great and didn’t need a second coat. Also I didn’t spill one single drop of paint. The only paint I got on the floor was from paint I got on my hands. I put my hand down to balance myself and oops. paint on the floor.

Available in eight classic colors, Glidden Trim & Door fills and covers wood grain and minor surface imperfections to provide an exceptional high gloss, no brush mark finish. In addition, this ultra durable, oil-based paint stands up to wear and tear far better than traditional, acrylic paints.

Stay tuned, next week we have another fun painting project and a giveaway to accompany it. It’s an awesome room makeover giveaway.

We received a sample quart of paint on behalf of Glidden.

Halloween Sugar Cookies Recipe To the Rescue!

I needed a pick me up last week and the pick me up didn’t last long because it was gobbled right up. The kids made Halloween Sugar Cookies. We didn’t make the icing or sprinkles though!

IMG_5388

We got out all the ingredients and mixed them together. Then we had to let it cool in the fridge overnight. So the next day we rolled them out, cut out our fun Halloween shapes and the decorated them.

IMG_5360

My husband tried his hand at rolling out the dough and he quickly passed the baton onto me. This particular cookie recipe was very sticky and hard to roll out. We found that letting the dough warm up just a tad helped us in the rolling out process, that and extra flour everywhere. The other thing about this recipe is that it doesn’t make very many cookies so you should double or even triple it.

Halloween Sugar Cookies Recipe

This is yet another great recipe from Southern Plate.

Mom’s A Hero $2500 Allstate Cash Giveaway #heroicmom

Thinking about my mom makes me realize, I never truly appreciated how much of a hero she was until I had children of my own. Mom’s do everything and once you have children you realize how BIG everything is and I have to mention, I’m lucky enough to have two mom heroes. One mother gave birth to me, raised me for about five years and then I spent time with her on weekends and during the summer time. The other mother took on part time duties which were not part time at all because I lived with her and my dad for about seven year. You see, being a step mom has to be even more challenging at time because it’s hard to fit into each other’s lives. That’s one reason why I can’t pick just one hero, I have two.

One of my moms taught me how to cook and have fun, while the other taught me about responsibility and strength. When my daughter was born, my stepmom flew out to help out with the baby. Holy cow having children is hard work.

She cooked, she cleaned, she took care of Zoe so I could sleep and get used to being a new mom. She was my hero just for letting me sleep.

image

Remembering back to when I was a kid…

I had to be told to clean my room, brush my teeth, don’t hit my sister, play with my sister, do my homework, go play outside. I was told that I would ask question after question and that it drove my parents crazy. But through it all my mother (both of them equally) turned me into the strong independent mother that I am today.

image

My mom came out when my second child was born and again I was reminded how I want to be a great mom for my children. I want to teach Zoe and Miles everything they need to be great parents and loving adults. I want to make them feel like I felt, loved, secure, and safe.

Perhaps you know a heroic mom or see one when you look in the mirror. Share your story and be entered for a chance to win $2,500 cash from Allstate. Plus four runner-ups will receive a $100 Visa Gift Card. *The five finalists will be chosen from the Entries receiving the most votes.

Zoe’s DXG 1080p Slim Camcorder Her Dream HD Video Camera Review

Zoe’s dream camera would be purple and the DXG Luxe 1080p Slim HD Camcorder comes in purple and in red. Of course they have much fancier names for purple and red, try violet riviera with Maui hibiscus patterns, Monaco funky polka dots, Ipanema flower designs, and Riviera quilted patterns. This camera pictured below has the quilted pattern.

 image

Zoe also loves a video camera that’s easy to use and great quality. The DXG Luxe 1080p Slim HD Camcorder creates high quality video with recording features, including full 1080p high definition and captures still pictures up to 12 megapixels AND has a 3-inch LCD touch screen display. Oh yeah,Zoe also loves a touch screen. So many screens are touch screens now that kids assume every screen should be a touch screen. So there is another plus.

image

Measuring less than 1-inch thick with a sleek pistol-grip design, the 2011 Luxe Collection easily slips right into a shirt pocket or purse to accessorize any adventure.  Each camcorder comes with a matching clutch case perfect for every little Zoe my mini  fashionista. Oh and the clutch, she’s taken that and put it somewhere in her room because she things it’s her new purse.

imageThis camcorder comes with everything you need to start recording your precious memories right away including an HDMI interface so it can easily be connected to your HDTV. This DXG Camcorder retails for 249.99.

image

The things I’m not so fond of:

It doesn’t have enough internal memory to record any video. Maybe you can record 2 seconds witch isn’t really much at all.

The door that you take off to insert the memory card doesn’t really go back on after you take it off. It’s connected by a ribbon and the ribbon is impossible to shove back into the camera. Maybe you will have more success than me.

Other than that I think it’s great.

The Tempur-Pedic Cloud Pillow #tempurpedic

CloudPillow_5x7

It’s been a while since I haven’t had a glowing report to give a product. I usually just LOVE everything. I guess I’m just as picky when it comes to pillows as my husband is. We’re picky in different ways. He likes Firm and I like them so soft that they are practically flat. I love to roll it up in my arms under my head and that’s how I sleep. The pillow should fit just under my neck and my head is actually on the mattress. That’s my favorite set up. So the Tempur-Pedic Cloud Pillow is not for my sleep habits. It is for my sitting up in bed reading habits thought. From there the rest of this review is GLOWING.

If you prefer both a soft and supportive, shapeable pillow you’ll love the new TEMPUR-Cloud® Pillow. Tempur-Pedic’s newest pillow combines pillowy-soft TEMPUR® material with the company’s patented ComfortPillow design for Tempur-Pedic’s softest, most responsive pillow. Thousands of micro-cushions inside an inner sleeve create an ultra-huggable pillow, which can be shaped and fluffed to fit your individual needs.

Features and benefits include:

  • Material sleeve filled with shapeable micro-cushions that adjust as you need
  • Supports head, neck and shoulders, allowing muscles to fully relax for more restful sleep
  • Removable and washable cover
  • MSRP: $129
It’s a great pillow. If I had two of them I’d be the perfect height while reading. It’s a very soft pillow and I have to agree with the product description. It’s soft and supportive. I never thought a pillow could do both, which is one reason why I think I just love flat pillows. I’m just used to it.
We received product samples from the company to facilitate this review.

Cracker Barrel Butterflies Doll Collection Review

Review By Emily:

When it comes to finding the perfect toy for a little girl, it’s no doubt that dolls are your best bet. But if you’ve walked the doll aisle of any big box store, you can immediately become overwhelmed with the assortment of dolls available. There is a doll that does just about everything these days! Seriously, it’s a doll, why does it need all the fancy, expensive (and usually breakable) bells and whistles? And then there are the batteries…had I known how many batteries I’d be going through when I had my first child, I would have put them at the top of my baby registry! Add the price of batteries to that $30 burping doll and that becomes one pricey toy. I find the simple, classic toys far more valuable in the long run since they help stimulate my child’s imagination and enhance their creativity. Kylie hugging Hannah

Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores hold this same belief and has created a new line of dolls, the Butterflies Doll Collection, which are the latest in interactive toys. Not interactive in a high tech way, but interactive because of all the things can do with them. The Butterflies are rag dolls reminiscent of days gone but with a twist, featuring the interests of modern day kids.

Available November 1 exclusively in over 600 Cracker Barrel Old Country Store locations, these eight different huggable dolls come complete with their own story, a unique outfit and an embroidered butterfly on the heart. There is definitely a doll (or two!) that would be a perfect fit for any little girl:

IsabellaELIZABETH loves helping mom.

MADISON enjoys being a cheerleader

JASMINE loves being a ballerina

ISABELLA believes she is a princess

HANNAH dreams of a slumber party

MARIA loves taking care of horses

GRACE likes feeding farm animals

SAVANNAH enjoys going to school

Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores kindly provided me with two different dolls for my daughters to try out. We received the Isabella and Hannah dolls. When I opened the boxes, the girls squealed about how beautiful they were. I was happy that I didn’t have to unwrap or put together a bunch of accessories. Plus, there are no batteries to install or directions to read before playing. It’s just straight from the box fun! Swapping Doll Clothing

The girls immediately began swapping the clothing, dressing and undressing them for some time. Afterwards, they decided to raid our craft cupboard and make their own jewelry for them. Using pipe cleaners, our dolls became adorned with new necklaces, bracelets, belts and crowns! All the while, I made dinner without the annoying sounds of beeps and whirls and computerized “mama” sounds. My daughters didn’t need me to press any buttons or help them with the settings on their toys. They just enjoyed good old fashioned pretend play with a simple, charming toy.

At bedtime, the girls wanted to sleep with their Butterflies dolls since they are so soft and cuddly. It’s been a week now that they have snuggled with their dolls each night. My oldest has enjoyed reading books to Isabella and my youngest rocks Hannah to sleep. Both dolls have been joining us daily at the breakfast table as well. Caitlyn Doll Jewelry

The dolls are not machine-washable, but just need a hand washing now and then. We have plenty of baby wipes around the house that do the trick for some of the lighter spots. I am truly pleased with the quality material and sewing construction of these dolls. They really are just too cute!

Each doll is priced at an affordable $19.99. Additional clothes and accessories for both dolls a girls age two to six will be available for purchase at all Cracker Barrel Old Country Store locations as well.
