The Way [PG-13] is an inspiring movie about living life. This is a father-son relationship movie about Tom and Daniel Avery, staring father Martin Sheen (born Ramon Antonio Gerard Estevez) and his son Emilio Estevez. Tom, played by Sheen, needs to be reminded how to live life again, and he learns how to thanks to his son Daniel while walking the Camino de Santiago or The Way of Saint James. During The Way, Tom’s fast pace, well-connected LA regime is challenged by the contrasting lifestyle of Daniel. This is a deep movie but is lightened with the friendships of a Dutchman, Canadian, and Irishman. For any softies, such as me, I’d recommend a tissue or two as you might need it between laughs.
I really liked the movie and felt inspired to get out and make a difference in my life and even walk the Camino de Santiago, though I saw it at night so we didn’t walk anywhere afterwards besides to our car. I enjoyed the personal paradigm shift of the characters in the movie; not everyone is who you think they are in the beginning. I’d recommend seeing The Way in theaters firstly because it’s a movie about being with other people who are complete strangers and sharing similar feelings despite different backgrounds just like sitting in the theater, and secondly because I believe in supporting independent films.
The Way is an independent film not only staring Estevez, but Estevez wrote the screenplay and directed the movie. The Way is being theatrically released throughout the United States; it came out on October 7, but didn’t make it to Seattle until today (October 21). Be sure and check your local theater for availability and viewing times. If you see The Way this weekend then take a picture of you and your spouse in front of the movie poster, and you could win one of five movie posters signed by Sheen and Estevez by posting to Facebook.
