Yo Ho! Jake and The Never Land Pirates

In anticipation of the September 27th release of Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Yo Ho, Mateys Away! on DVD, I have some fun clips to share with our review. Which all I can say is Jake and the Never Land Pirates is a hands down hit with all the kids in the neighborhood. My kids keep singing the song over and over and over and over, you get the picture.

The Never Land Games

It’s a DVD packed full with seven episodes from the series and two incredible bonus features including Yo Ho, You Want To Be A Pirate?, where Jake teaches viewers how to talk like a pirate, and Pirate Party With Pirate-oke, a collection of music videos performed by The Never Land Pirate Band that allow viewers to enjoy with or without the sing-along/karaoke-like feature.
Retailing for the suggested price of $19.99 in the U.S. and $24.99 in Canada, the Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Yo Ho, Mateys Away! DVD also comes packaged with a bonus 7-track CD sampler and a pirate eye patch.

Izzy’s Pirate Puzzle:

The Jake and the Never Land Pirates Album features:

The album features a variety of songs that kids and parents can enjoy together. Songs include the kooky, comical "Hot Lava," “Aw Coconuts,” "Pirate Password,” and the arrrghhh-rated “Talk Like a Pirate.” Some songs refer to popular characters in the show, such as “What’s Cookin’ Smee,” "Captain Hook (Is A Cranky Crook)," “Tick Tock Croc” and “Bucky’s Shanty.” Others capture the island spirit of Never Land, such as “Castaway on Pirate Island," "Shipwreck Shuffle" and "Never Sky," as well as the "Jake and the Never Land Pirates" theme song. All songs can be heard in episodes of the show.
Portland, Oregon-based Hoskins and Hendrickson have been creating pirate rock music for kids of all ages for more than a decade. The duo produced four previous children’s albums and even led their own pirate band.  The pirate rockers also provide the musical score for “Jake and the Never Land Pirates.”

I think as far as children’s DVD’s go this one is a must because I haven’t found a child yet that doesn’t like it. They all LOVE it.

It retails for 9.99 for 10 issues a year and it’s well worth 1.00 an issue because it is jam packed with fun valuable information you can use to have loads of fun with your family. From Costumes to Review: The Tempest Now Available on Blu-ray

The Tempest captured my attention with words, action, and costumes. I love period pieces and the wardrobes that accompany them. I’m not saying I wish we dressed up as the Shakespearean people did but I do really love full dresses. The men’s clothing, not so much.

THE TEMPESTTHE TEMPEST

THE TEMPESTTHE TEMPEST

Here is a full peek behind the scenes with this slideshow of images of the cast, and original sketches of their costumes!

Synopsis: This modern retelling of William Shakespeare’s final masterpiece is an exciting, mystical and magical fantasy with Academy Award®-winner Helen Mirren (Best Actress, The Queen, 2006) leading a star-studded cast including Russell Brand (Get Him To The Greek) and Alfred Molina (The Sorcerer’s apprentice). Exiled to a magical island, the sorceress Prospera (Mirren) conjures up a storm that shipwrecks her enemies, and then unleashes her powers for revenge. Directed by Julie Taymor (Frida) — and complete with exclusive bonus features — The Tempest, with its innovative twist, is a supernatural dramedy filled with Shakespearean villains, lovers and fools that will leave you spellbound.

A New Wardrobe

I always love watching Shakespearean movies. I feel like I’ve been shipped off in a time capsule when they’ve been done well and The Tempest was done well. Not only that but it has a touch of supernatural with witch powers and of course a bit of romance. The Tempest is now available on Blu-ray and DVD.

Top 10 Eco and Wallet-Friendly School Year Tips

I’ve been working with Recyclebank for the last two months and I wanted to share this exciting eco friendly tip list with you. Recyclebank went through more than 100,000 submissions to date and compiled the best eco- and wallet-friendly advice from members across the country. The most common themes? Get your family involved, and make it fun! Here are some highlights: image

1. Swap it out. Hold a clothing and school gear swap party with other families in the neighborhood. It’s a great way for the kids to get “new” clothes and backpacks without hurting the planet, plus it saves money. Another great tip was to visit trading sites like ThredUP.com to swap clothes your kids no longer wear for newer duds.

2. Throw a closet-cleaning party. Clean out closets before going shopping to see what fits, what can be repurposed or what can be donated. Make it a fun activity for the whole family to do together—turn on some music, serve some snacks and have a fashion show!

3. Put a new twist on something old. Pull out your sewing machine, material stockpile and accessories to re-invent hand-me-downs. It’s a fun and creative activity for the family, saves money and encourages the kids to enjoy recycled clothing.

4. Extend the life of your crayons. Take crayons from the previous school year, melt them and pour them into molds to create different shaped crayons. Once cooled, you have cool “new” crayons.

5. Save on textbooks and conserve paper. Buy used text books from students who were previously in your kids’ grades. College students can use textbook renting sites such as Chegg.com, which even plants a tree for each book rented. And if you buy a textbook on Amazon.com, you can sell them back for gift cards to use towards next year’s books!

6. Plan a supply hunt. Organize a pen, pencil and notebook scavenger hunt around the house—you’d be amazed what you can find in drawers and bags. It’s a fun rainy day project for kids, and a great way to reuse the supplies you’ve already bought.

7. Give supplies a facelift. You can add some flair to old school supplies that are still useable. Fill an old binder with un-used pages from cast-off notebooks, recover them with sturdy fabric and then break open the craft drawer and let your kids go wild! Last year’s binder becomes a work of art.

8. Make it a game. Each morning, get out the stopwatch and have everyone race through the house to ensure all lights are off and appliances and electronics are unplugged. This helps save energy, and reduces your electricity bill and burns off excess energy!

9. Paint the classroom green. Encourage your child’s school administrators to have recycle bins in the schoolyard, classroom and hallways so kids develop the habit early. If your school doesn’t have recycling, bring in your own bins and set up a collection schedule with other parents! If your town is a Recyclebank community, families can take turns collecting bins and share the coupons with the classroom. Many towns supply recycling bins to residents, but if yours doesn’t places like Home Depot and Target sell them.

10. Form a club. If you have junior high or high school aged kids, ask your school if you can form a “Green Club.” Members can serve as green ambassadors in their respective classrooms, and help raise awareness and implement school-wide eco-friendly actions.

To learn more easy and inspiring tips for going green this school year from Recyclebank.

To share your tips and get rewarded for the simple things you do to live greener lives, take the Recyclebank Green Your School Year Challenge, a nationwide effort to inspire families to make eco-friendly decisions throughout the school year. The Challenge, which runs until September 30, sets Recyclebank members on an interactive school year journey with opportunities to earn points along the way towards winning over 100 incredible prizes, including a grand prize package designed to green all elements of the school year valued at $7,500.

Ten Amazing Photos

I love taking photos and editing photos is even more fun, even though I don’t have that much time for either. I wish that Adobe could make more time in the day as easily as it makes photos and images look fantastic.

Train

With so many different photo editing programs out there, which one is the best one for the job. You know, I think it depends on what you want to do with your photos. Did you take a picture of your family out in the sun and it’s all washed out?

red leaves

Or maybe you tried to take a picture at night and you didn’t quite get enough light in the photo.

clouds

What about taking photos of the sky. Sometimes you get lucky and the sky looks perfect as it is, and other times the photo would benefit so much with a little bump up in the colors.

sky

A really good digital picture editor can make your life so much easier.

wolves

I use a few different programs right now. I use Adobe Photoshop to liven up some of my recipes and I also use Windows Live Writer to make a few of my photos shine. Then for web development, my husband has been using Adobe Photoshop to cut the people out of the photos and we’re using Microsoft elements for some of the design work.

All of the photos in this post were found at morgueFile. I have no idea how or if they were edited but I know that to me each one has an interesting perspective.
