Holland House: Find an Everyday use for Red Wine Vinegar

When I think of cooking with wine and vinegar, I just can’t think of very many uses for it. I think over the past 10 years the only time I cooked with wine was maybe once. I was making risotto and my recipe required white wine. I never thought cooking with white wine, or red wine vinegar could be used in every day meals, and since I have to cook every day of the week, I’m always open to new FUN ideas. Next time I make a pork dish I’m going to use the Holland House Red Wine Vinegar to pump up the flavor.

image

Holland House cooking wine or vinegar varieties can be used in sauces, marinades, glazes or sautes without even turning on your oven. Now I’m really impressed. Use the Holland House Red Wine Vinegar to increase the flavor in a gravy, beef stock, or to tenderize your meat. I like to buy food when it’s on sale and the last time pork was buy one get one free, I actually had coupons for the pork too so I majorly stocked up on pork. Now I’m collecting pork recipes and I have my eye on this simple grilled chipotle pork recipe from Holland House Red Wine Vinegarthe Holland House Recipes.

Grilled Chipotle Pork Recipe

Ingredients:

2 chipotle chilies in adobo sauce
1/2 cup ketchup
1/3 cup Holland House Red Wine Vinegar
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1 Tbsp. ground cumin
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 – 1/2 yellow onion, cut into chunks
3 large cloves garlic
1 whole pork tenderloin

Directions:

Mix all of the ingredients except the pork in a food processor, until everything is smooth.

Place the pork in a sealable plastic container and pour the sauce over the meat to marinate overnight.

Remove pork from the marinade and preheat your grill. If you want to use the marinade be sure to boil it for 1 minute.

Cook the pork over indirect medium heat for 30-35 minutes, turning once or until temperature is 160 degrees. Slice pork to serve.

Get Ready For Baby with VTech Toys

Planning a Get Ready For Baby Party began with cleaning my house. After Cleaning, we set up the house with a few party decorations, balloons and party favors. My kids had a great time making the party balloons themselves.

imageimage

Mommies love to talk over food, I’m not sure I’ve ever been to a baby shower that didn’t have food. So we had to work on having enough snacks, chocolate covered strawberries, veggies and dip, and in our house you can’t have a party without cake. We were very busy the day before.

Chocolate Covered Ganache Strawberriesimageimage

The Get Ready for Baby party was sponsored by VTech; they sent us a very large assortment of toys to check out with my family and friends. They also shared some really important learning tips from Dr. Lise Eliot, Associate Professor of Neuroscience at the Chicago Medical School of Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine & Science. Dr. Lise Eliot says it’s never too early to start infant development and learning. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you are getting ready for baby:

Parents Play a Key Role:

  • For babies, parental interaction is their whole world, so moms and dads play a pivotal role in influencing a child’s cognitive language, motor and social emotional development. Through repeated, positive experiences, parents and other caregivers have a lasting positive impact on brain development.

Nurture Language and Sound:

  • The nurture of language and sound is critical in the first few years. Engage your baby in face-to-face interaction so he can hear language spoken, read aloud, and object association with words. Music is also a great way to help babies because of the memorable context with sounds. Singing is a great way to stimulate your baby.

Healthy Body, Healthy Mind:

  • Movement is crucial to a baby’s ability to learn. From the third month of life onward, a abyab’s limb movement increases significantly as she begins to crawl, stand and walk, so make sure she has a safe place to move and age-appropriate toys to grasp, push and pull.

Eyes on the Prize:

  • As anyone who has ever looked into those big, wide eyes knows, babies are very visual, especially beginning around four months of age. As your child grows and discovers the world around him, he’ll start to recognize different colors, textures, designs and shapes. Help him along by surrounding him with bold, vivid examples that engage these new optical abilities. One great time to do this is during bath time. VTech introduced a full line of bath toys that engage baby with sound, colors and numbers and make bath time more fun.

Repetition Drives It All Home:

  • All of these tips work together to become part of a routine you can incorporate into your baby’s daily life. The mind develops through repeated experiences, and the earlier you begin, the better. Find ways to make these tips fun for you and your baby, it’s a lot easier with a happy motivated child.

So we used the materials sent to us from VTech and had a play date and as always the play date was chaotic to say the least so we don’t have a lot of photos, but my son Miles made sure that his friends played with his favorite VTech Toy out of the bunch, the Vtech learning laptop. The Baby’s Learning Laptop is for ages 6 – 36 months, and older kids will like it too. Miles just turned 3 and he loved playing with it. I think developmentally he’s beyond it but it’s a laptop he’s allowed to play on, so I see why he likes it so much. The colorful keyboard interacts with a bright light-up screen to teach shapes, common objects and feelings. The sound effects, melodies and a movable mouse round out the fun of this electronic learning toy. It retails for 15.99

The Peek At Me Bunny was my favorite out of the toys we received from VTech. He was soft and cute and cuddly and still great for baby’s development. The bunny is geared for 6 – 36 months and retails for 14.99. There are two playful sensors creating an interactive play experience. The sound sensor activates peaceful sounds, endearing phrases, and short tunes in the “night” mode. The light sensor engages infants in a game of peek-a-boo in the “playtime” mode.

The other toys we received:

The Submarine Learning Boat:

Bath time is much more fun with a toy!! The VTech Submarine Learning Boat’s dolphin captain teaches children about colors, numbers, animals, animal sounds and animal characteristics. The dolphin also likes to play hide and seek, asking toddlers to help find his animal friends. Each press of a button on this electronic learning toy is rewarded with a squirt of water from the submarine’s spout. Two different intensities of squirting add to the surprise and fun of this submarine bath toy. Equipped with a water sensor, this little submarine knows when it’s diving into the water for some wet and wild fun or if it’s reached dry land for a little quieter play time.

The 3-in-1 Learning Zebra Scooter:

All the kids love ride on toys and push toys. Our neighborhood is out almost every afternoon riding and pushing things across the cul-de-sac. The VTech 3-in-1 Learning Zebra Scooter converts easily from push walker to ride-on scooter. Kids can discover their wild side as they move with the zebra and explore new territory with the scooter’s walkie-talkie, compass and flashlight. The zebra’s mane features five light-up buttons that teach colors, animals and destinations. This learning toy also features a fun horn button with a volume control switch.

I Can Finally Wear My Wedding Ring

You know it took me almost three years to get all of the pregnancy weight off. It wasn’t until just this last year that I am finally back down to my pre-pregnancy weight. Which means I can finally wear my wedding ring again. I can wear all my rings again. Well all of them except one. I have quite a few different rings, I have a replacement wedding ring  (yes, I lost my wedding ring (we had a cat and the cat liked to play with things at night while we were sleeping (at least that’s my excuse)))(have you ever noticed I like to use parenthesis?) my dad’s wedding band, my mom’s wedding band, and a graduation present. All of the bands fit except for one of them. Nope it’s not my dads ring his fits on my thumb, it’s my moms. Her wedding ring was so small the only finger I can get it on would be my pinky, but then it’s a little too big so I can’t wear it at all. And it’s too bad because it’s really cute. I’ve never been really big on owning a lot of jewelry but I do like a few pieces.

While I’m sitting here thinking about the jewelry I do like, I thought I would check out Since1910.com. Since 1910.com has quite a few really nice pieces. I’m a really big fan of white gold, polished silver, or platinum, even though the latter of the three will never ever be in my budget. I still LOVE to look at it.

What kind of jewelry do you like to wear?

FishEyes Rod & Reel with Underwater Video Camera Giveaway

Fishing and my dad go together like peanut butter and jelly. I grew up really close to a HUGE lake, I mean they only make lakes this size in Texas, unless it’s one of the great lakes. Ok, you know what I mean, things in Texas are BIG. I grew up in north Texas right along the Oklahoma boarder and the lake is Lake Texhoma. We went fishing and swimming and boating and as a result I love being on the water. I would even say if it wasn’t for baiting a hook, and actually having to touch a fish, I enjoy fishing. It’s relaxing to cast your rod into the water and reel it back in.

I was approached on behalf of Nextsport Inc, the creators of FishEyes Rod & Reel with Underwater Camera for a product review. Thinking of Father’s Day and my own dad who loves to go fishing, I though, I had to check this out.

Product Description

FishEyes Rod & Reel with Underwater Video Camera allows you to see what’s happening underwater in real time! No more guess work or long waiting periods with no action. Now spend your time bringing in more fish than ever! Great for dock, lake or even ocean fishing! Catch more fish or just explore underwater! Includes: one FishEyes Rod & Reel, two bait baskets, two sinkers and 10 line attachment clip sets.

FE300x250Now when I think of my dad, I think of old fashioned (my dad is by no means old, I have young parents) and I wonder if he would like having a video camera attached to his fishing pole. I think it’s awesome and if we lived closer to him, it would be quite the adventure for Miles to go fishing with his papa. Miles loves picking up worms and other bugs already and since he’s so young, being able to see the fish on the LCD screen would help him to understand what they are doing. The FishEyes Rod & Reel with Underwater Video Camera does not include the 4 batteries that it needs, and it also doesn’t include hooks and lures, which isn’t a problem for a seasoned fisherman like my dad.

The video camera with built in LED for all underwater conditions is a really cool feature. I remember riding on a boat that had sonar capabilities and it showed schools of fish under or around the boat as we went by them. This is even cooler. The screen is in full-color, it’s a camera and not sonar. The screen comes with a sun shade making it easier to look into, and you can actually catch fish, instead of just watching them. The footage you see on the FishEyes Rod & Reel Undwater Video Camera is live footage, you actually see what is in the water. FishEyes Rod & Reel Undwater Video Camera is geared towards ages 8 & up and requires some adult assembly.  Thinking of me and taking my kids out myself. I love the idea of the video camera and just watching the fish swim by. I’m not going to bate the hook, just cast it in and watch the fish.

Ester-C Gummies

I think it’s hard to find a great tasting easy to take vitamin c supplement that’s not chalking/powdering and even your kids won’t mind taking it. But, Ester-C has you covered with Gummies for the extra immune system support to fight off spring and summer illness and close encounters such as plane flights. Gummies absorb into your system quickly and stay there for immune system support.

clip_image001

Ester-C Gummies are designed for people 4 years and older. My husband LOVES to take them (and so do my kids) but my DH is a big deal because he never asks to take his vitamins … believe it or not, my kids do! Getting my DH to take vitamins is the hardest one in our family, but he’s been taking his Ester-C two gummies two times per day. I like that Ester-C Gummies can be taken all year long to support heart health, antioxidant health, healthy bones and joints, and healthy skin, hair and nails.

Besides special patented Ester-C the Gummies contain corn syrup [not to be confused with high fructose corn syrup], sugar, gelatin, and less than 2% of acacia gum, annatto (color), carnauba wax, citric acid, natural orange flavor, and vegetable oil (coconut). Ester-C contains NO artificial flavors, NO artificial sweeteners, NO preservatives, NO starch, NO milk, NO lactose, NO soy, NO gluten, NO wheat, NO yeast, NO fish, and is sodium free.

Reusable Foldable Sip N’ Go Summer Fun

My family and I made a recently trip to Disneyland; making a trip like this for our family means a plane flight, some car time, and then 12 hours or so inside the park each day. In planning for all of these travels I was approached by Sip N’ Go to review their water bottle.

clip_image002

I was excited to see I could roll these bottles up and “stick them in my back pocket” before or after use, and they’re light at only 1 ounce. I use the carabineer to hook the bottle to my backpack, full and empty. Empty – I had it on hand to fill like post airport security. Full – I had it on hand for thirst mouths in need, and frozen full meant cool water at Disneyland all day long. I really love this “Sip ‘N Go” concept. For only $7.99 you can own one too.

image

There is no better way to always have a water bottle one hand. This is a great product to attach to your playground bag and not take up room as there are always water fountains available. Sip ‘N Go is an easy water bottle to store in a glove compartment or other emergency car storage, or to add to an at-home emergency supply kits (I live in earthquake country and you know you won’t be carrying your gallons of water around with you!).

The simple design makes it easy for everyone in the family to drink from and almost everyone can fill it (my 4YO can). The one family-friendly flaw is that the bottle doesn’t have a valve to stop spills in case the bottle is dropped or tipped without being seal shut first. That said, this is no different than any other water bottle with a pop top drink spout, and sippy kids are more my 21MO’s style anyway. [wink] Always remember to have the base expanded before placing upright on a surface and always remember to pop the top closed and cover with the provided lid when not using (for even of basic sanitary reasons).

clip_image007 clip_image009

I like that Sip ‘N Go is good for your body as they replenish your water supply in BPA free bottles made in the USA. Sip ‘N Go is also reusable and is top-rack dishwasher safe. Once you’re done with the product simply recycle it like a typical bulky water bottle. Sip ‘N Go is also a 1% For The Planet company, which means they give 1% of their sales to a network of 2,504 environmental organizations worldwide.

Sip ‘N Go also makes a great His and Her gift in their nifty pink and blue. Wedding shower gift for the outdoors couple? Baby shower couples gift for their hospital bag? Pick a favorite color for: Father’s Day gift for the athletic type? Sports camps for your children whether at home or away? On the “back side” of the bottle is a little tab at the bottom to label your bottle so there isn’t any confusing if your child has the same bottle as classmate!
