Kidgit Easter Eggstravaganza Egg Hunt Saturday April 16th Northgate Mall

Looking for a local Easter Egg Hunt, I know of lots going on on Saturday April 22nd, The City of Bothell, The City of Monroe, I’m sure most local cities are putting on some kind of Easter Egg hunt so check your local city’s website for details and times. Our church is having one too and everyone is invited, check out local churches as I’m sure it’s quite common for churches to host and Easter Egg hunt. However I’m happy to announce there is one this weekend on a day that no one else is having one. Saturday April 16th (that’s this Saturday) Northgate Mall in Seattle is hosting a Kidgit Easter Eggstravaganza.

Kidgits Easter Characters_2010This Egg Hunt is a scavenger hunt for the whole family. Follow the clues around the mall to different stores participating to collect the eggs. The cost is 5.00 per child (but the cost is actually covering membership into a full years worth of Kidget activities). You will also receive a ton of coupon opportunities that pay for the Kidget membership in no time at all.

Our Family Italian Sausage Meatball Recipe

On Monday night I let the kids help me make meatballs. Now, with all of our hands covered in raw meat, I wasn’t able to get any shots of the kids making meatballs but they had a blast. Actually, Miles’ fun was very short lived because he really wanted to taste the meat and as soon as it was in his mouth he was off the chair at the sink getting his hands face and mouth washed by mom. Anyways, yesterday, I posted the Johnsonville Italian Sausage Recipe and today I’m posting the Bishop family, no onion extra cheese with carrots meatball version of Italian Sausage Meatballs. Yum!

Italian Sausage Meatballs

Ingredients:

1 Package of Johnsonville Mild Italian Sausage Links
1 egg
1 cup Cheddar Cheese (1/2 cup more if you want)
1/2 package of Saltine Crackers
1 cup cooked carrots

Directions:

De-case the Sausage
In a Food Processor, combine sausage, egg, cheese, cracker, and carrots. Then process until well blended.
Make as many meatballs as you can in the size you desire. I prefer them small so they are easier to tell when they are done.
In a pan, cook until brown and done in the middle (160 degrees)

Serve over your favorite pasta and sauce.

This was a family hit. Zoe has issues eating meat sometimes and she LOVED it and has requested that I make it again.

Stay tuned for the entire scoop on my visit to Milwaukee!

Disclosure: Johnsonville paid for all of my trip expenses to Milwaukee.

Rocket Town By Bob Logan Children’s Book Review

We love to read. My sons both enjoy books, though my older son loves to read more than my younger son. Rocket Town by Bob Logan showing up on our doorstep was a hit for both of my boys. My youngest (20MO) needs board books and he is captivated by the pictures for the color contrasts; my oldest (4YO) just loves to read and is captivated by the pictures because THEY’RE ROCKETS!

FrontCover_003_82op

In addition to early reading, Rocket Town offers education in opposites and numbers. They compare big and small, up and down, fast and slow, and count down for BLAST OFF! In fact, with a couple of readings to my 4YO he can now read it to my 20MO who is demanding to have Rocket Town read to him several times … in a row!

clip_image003

So now with my 4YO armed, he can “read” (okay, actually recall) the entire book when mommy is not available. But I really like Rocket Town too. I have looked through the book on my own several times, not just because I have to review it, but because I want take in the colors and pictures myself. Bob Logan has worked as a story artist on feature animations such as Madagascar, Open Season, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Look at the eye-catching pictures of Bob Logan’s Rocket Town:

I would highly recommend Rocket Town as a baby shower gift, birthday present, new reading selection for you library, etc. The book follows an astronaut and his puppy pal in their yellow pick-up truck rocket. (Can you spy them in the picture above?) Your kids will love this book!

clip_image007Rocket Town is a new board book and was just released to the public this month! This new board book cost $7.99 (USD) and is offered through Sourcebooks, the publisher, and other retailers. Sourcebooks and Bob Logan also offer The Sea of Bath if you’re interested in other books from the duo.

You can find Sourcebooks on Facebook and Twitter @Sourcebooks to stay up-to-date on new Sourcebooks releases and events.

Why Johnsonville Italian Sausage Will Change Your Life {Italian Sausage Meatball Recipe}

A month ago, yes I’m a serious slacker, I went to Milwaukee to visit with Johnsonville to discover that Johnsonville is about much more than grilling. Cooking sausage can be done easily in the kitchen and we tried it as a family last night and it was delicious, but before I reveal to you my version of Italian Sausage Meatballs, I want to share with you how Johnsonville makes Italian Sausage Meatballs.

image

This is Bob’s signature recipe and I tried them and they are pretty darn good, I could do without the onions, but I think most people think I’m un-American because I don’t cook with onions in my house. Now you have to watch this video:

I took this video and the background noise is a little loud and I can’t find my software to edit it out. I hope you can hear the conversation, because Bob, is so fired up about Johnsonville Italian Sausage in person that you have to hear his passion.

Johnsonville takes really great Sausage and put all the spices you need for any Italian Sausage recipe. So when making meatballs all you need are crackers and eggs.

Check out their Italian Sausage Meatball Recipe:

1 Egg Lightly Beaten
1/3 cup Bread Crumbs
1/4 grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup onion (you know this would not fly in my house, which is why tomorrow I’ll have Our revised recipe)
1 pkg Johnsonville Mild Italian Sausage Links

Directions

Preheat Oven to 350 degrees
In a large bowl combine the egg, bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, milk and onion
Then you need to remove the sausage from casings, before you start cooking watch this video with Melissa d’Arabian and how to remove Johnsonville Italian Sausage from the casing easily.
Add the sausage to the mixture
Shape into meatballs and arrange in a baking dish
Bake for 20 minutes or until the meatballs are cooked all the way (160 degrees)
Then Serve over your favorite noodle and sauce.

Take Marcal Small Steps For Earth Day

Earth Day is on April 22. Marcal paper products wants you to start taking small steps to making your house green for a greener Earth. Marcal has been saving trees since 1950, and you can help trees by having your family switch to ANY Small Steps® product just once a week. Since 2000, Marcal has saved over 20 million trees by using 100% premium recycled paper. Marcal paper products are made from paper recycled from home and office paper products to make their toilet paper, napkins, paper towels, and tissues. Marcal is a small company making a big difference.

Do you know what’s in your paper products?

Marcal’s Small Steps®
Premium Recycled Paper Content 100%
New Trees Used 0%
Chlorine Bleaching for Whitening 0%
Added Fragrances or Dyes 0%
Products that are Virtually Lint Free 100%

Marcal sent me a 4-pack of double roll toilet paper and a roll of paper towel. My husband could immediately tell we’d switched brands for both products.

My husband was the first to unknowingly install and use a new toilet paper roll. We both didn’t like the firmness of the paper, at first, though it is effective in doing its job. However upon continued use we both didn’t mind the change. The toilet paper is also septic safe, which we require since our house is on a septic system. I used Marcal’s individually wrapped toilet paper in the Upper Westside’s Magnolia Bakery during a recent trip to New York City. I noticed the extra rolls before use and though I knew what I was going to be feeling, but I was surprised. I assume Magnolia orders from Marcal’s commercial line; the toilet paper was VERY soft. The paper was definitely different than the product I was sampling in my home.

clip_image003

The paper towels were also less soft than our normal brand and took longer to clean up spills in comparison. With our normal paper towels we would wipe and the area would be clean, but Marcal paper towels worked best when left on the area to absorb the wet mess. Marcal paper towel, however, were very affective at wet clean-up (when you pre-wet the towel in order to clean up a solid or dried-on mess).

I would recommend trying Marcal in your home; especially because Marcal is calling for small changes. Try using their products once a week in your home or purchase them for your office. Marcal is dedicated to green$ and believes you shouldn’t have to pay more for a quality products that are good for the environment. And really, you shouldn’t! Let Marcal. Find a store near you which carriers a select or all of their green Small Step® products.

I also really love that Marcal is making more green efforts than simply making their sellable product. In the Marcal paper products which require an inner core — such as toilet paper and paper towels, the core is made from 100% recycled paper materials. Marcal plastic packaging is #4 and can be recycled with plastic bags you may acquire. See your local centers on recycling plastic bags; in my area we have to turn plastic bags into selected stores with recycling containers. Maybe one day soon Marcal will change to a biodegradable see through wrap for packaging.

You can find out more about Marcal paper products on their website. You can also keep up with Marcel daily on Facebook and by tracking them on Twitter @MarcalSmallStep.

Seneca Farms Oatmeal & Fruit Review and Coupon

Not surprising to me, but did you know that *71 % of U.S. adults agree that breakfast is the most important meal of the day but 67% of those adults admit to skipping breakfast? I’m not surprised because I’m one of those adults that will skip breakfast from time to time. My kids on the other hand do not skip breakfast and it’s a concern of mine to make sure that I’m feeding them something that is healthy and keeps them full until snack time.

Seneca Farms Oatmeal

What is surprising to me is that nearly * 60% of U.S. parents of children ages 3-17 admit that their child skips breakfast, with more than half of U.S. Moms wishing their child ate a more nutritious breakfast. I had no idea that kids that young skipped breakfast. I also had no idea that 58% of U.S. Moms say they skip breakfast regularly. 46% of Moms who skip breakfast say they do so because they do not have enough time to prepare or eat it. And that 57% of single adults say the number one reason they skip breakfast is that they don’t have enough time to prepare it.

Seneca Farms Oatmeal has a simple solution to our time crunch and desire for a wholesome breakfast. In just 45 seconds the oatmeal is ready to be served and comes in some really great fruit flavors. I just had the opportunity to review to great flavors with Zoe and Miles. I just tried Apple Cinnamon and Vanilla Peach. My favorite being Apple Cinnamon, but Zoe and Miles seemed to enjoy both flavors equally. I loved how there were real pieces of fruit in each package of oatmeal. With the promise of more flavors in the coming months there will be plenty to choose from. Seneca’s Oatmeal & Fruit has no trans fats or cholesterol, and is a great source of Vitamin C. Oh and did I mention it’s yummy. Yeah, the kids liked it but so did I.
