Oh wow, I can’t believe I missed it. March 24th was National Chocolate Covered Raisin Day. My excuse is that for the last week an a half my life has been turned upside down by illness and what not, but I’m back on track and it look like other than a small cold Zoe seems to have we might be back on track to having a healthy family. So we’re going to be celebrating National Chocolate Covered Raisin Day a few days late. ![]()
I’d love to celebrate it with you guys!
Nestle Raisinets contacted me, well their PR company contacted me on their behalf and asked me to share some fun facts about Raisinets with you and I get to giveaway a few boxes. Raisinets bring back fond memories of my childhood and falling in love with chocolate. My babysitter had a bowl of raisinets in the refrigerator and I used to get a few when my parents were late picking me up, and when I was really little it seemed to happen a lot. So, I was on lucky girl getting to snack on chocolate covered raisins. It’s funny because writing this just reminded me that I actually have a bag of Raisinets in the fridge right now. Yumm!
• All Nestlé Raisinets are produced in Burlington, Wisconsin. They are made with select California raisins and a unique blend of Nestlé Chocolate.
• Raisinets were first introduced in 1927 by the Blumenthal Chocolate Company. Back then, it took two-and-a-half hours to produce one batch of Raisinets! Now it takes between 45 and 60 minutes.
• Today, we produce more than 1 million Raisinets per hour! Slightly less than 30 million individual Raisinets each day!
• In 2010 we produced nearly 20 million pounds of Milk and Dark Chocolate Raisinets, which is equal to approximately 8 billion individual Raisinets. If you lined them up end-to-end, they’d stretch all the way around the earth about three-and-a-half times!
• Last year we used almost seven million pounds of raisins and more than 10 million pounds of Nestlé Chocolate to produce both Milk and Dark Chocolate Raisinets.
• Raisinets are the first chocolate covered raisin candy to have a cartoon series featured on its own YouTube channel! – www.youtube.com/raisinets
5 Winners each receive 2 milk chocolate and 2 dark chocolate boxes (MOVIE SIZE BOXES) of Raisinets.

Each year it has become a tradition for dad to make the birthday cake with the child celebrating their birthday. As you may know, last week was Miles’ birthday. My little boy is now no longer a little boy (if you ask him, he’s a big boy now). I went and picked out a recipe for them to use, but since my husband was making the cake and didn’t feel like he was up to the challenge of making a lemon chiffon cake, he chose a simpler recipe from Crisco.com. He chose the Ribbon Layer Cake.
Ingredients:
Butter Spray
1 box (don’t tell Crisco but we used Betty Crocker) Lemon Cake Mix
1 cup water
1/3 cup canola oil (I think we used vegetable because that’s what we had)
3 large eggs
LOTS OF FOOD COLORING
Smucker’s Strawberry Jelly (OOPS, we forgot to use this ingredient)
Frosting Ingredients:
3/4 cup butter Crisco
2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 or 3 tablespoons milk
LOTS OF FOOD COLORING
How we put it all together (Directions)
Heat the oven to 350 degrees and Spray 3 circle pans with cooking spray.
Prepare the cake mix according to the box directions, then divide the batter into thirds. Dye each set of batter the color you want your cake to be. Miles chose, green, yellow and red (pink because red is so hard to make). Pour batter into pre-sprayed pans.
Bake 20 to 25 minutes (watch carefully, we overcooked ours just a tad) or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes on wire rack. Remove from pans.
Now this is where we messed up. We decided that we aren’t that good at stacking, so our cake was only three layers high. Before you stack the layers you are supposed to spread the jelly across each layer, which holds each one in place. OOPS!
Beat the shortening, powdered sugar, vanilla and milk until creamy. Blend in food coloring, we chose blue, and LOTS of it. Frost the cake, refrigerate until serving and after serving.

How to Protect Your Clothes from Glops and Goop
My son is an eater. He will eat anything that we put in front of him… except spoon fed, pureed foods. He’s a little unusual (I think) because he has never really been a fan of pureed foods which led us to do baby led weaning. Well, needless to say, my son is also now a flinger, splatter, smusher, and overall mess maker when he’s eating. At times it can be pretty entertaining, but boy oh boy is it messy! While I am a stay at home mom, that doesn’t mean that I want oatmeal, banana, green bean goo, slathered on my “work clothes” by my little guy. That is why I was really eager to test out the koobli when I had the chance!
“What is the koobli ?” you might be wondering. The koobli is a garment exclusively designed to protect your clothes from all the goop, glops, and gunk that can come with being around children. The koobli can be used during meal times, craft times, or anytime a mess is imminent! According to the koobli website, it is made from 100% micro polyester suede woven and is water/stain resistant, flame retardant, and machine washable. When I tried out the koobli I found it to be extremely lightweight and breathable.
I put the koobli to two different tests. Test number one was when we tried turning the spoon over to him and a bowl of oatmeal. It was definitely entertaining. I even think some of the oatmeal actually made it into his mouth! However, there was also oatmeal on the table, the floor, the chair, his hands, his arms, his neck… well you get the idea. Knowing that this was going to be a pretty messy meal, I was ready and waiting in my koobli. Yes, admittingly I was still in my PJ’s, but it was still early! Not to mention that doesn’t mean I wanted oatmeal all over me! During the meal, I was protected from the flying oats. The best part was, during clean up, I didn’t have to worry about how I was going to hold my gooey gremlin as I wiped him down. The length of the koobli is just right for protecting your clothing (including most of your pants) without being so long that it gets in the way. At the end of cleaning him (and everything else) up, I just took the koobli off and viola! We were both good to go.
Test #2 came for my good friend koobli during bath time. My son is a huge fan of bath time and always splashes water EVERYWHERE. Inevitably I’m left with a wet shirt and have to change clothes. Well, not this time! I quickly pulled on my koobli. Have I mentioned how easy it is to put on? You just slide your arms through the sleeves and Velcro around the neck. Since the koobli is water resistant, I was hoping that it would help protect me in the splash zone. The elastic built into the sleeves helped keep the sleeves up as I washed my son which was a great feature that I had not even paid attention to during the oatmeal. After bath time, I took off my koobli and was so happy that my clothes were dry!
My koobli now stays in my son’s room ready to go for messy meals or bath time. It folds up into its own carry pocket which is nice since that way it doesn’t take up a lot of space!
I was really happy with the performance of the koobli. It’s no wonder that the koobli has been given a seal of approval by both The Family Choice Awards and Parent Tested, Parent Approved. If you are interested in learning more about the koobli visit their website www.koobli.com .
I was provided with a koobli from the company to facilitate this review.

I love to dance! I’m a mom of two and feel too old (at 31, going on 32YO) to head to the clubs anymore; it’s no longer my scene. But I still long for the club feel and just love to get a little silly and hang out with my girlfriends. I need Mom’s Night Outs often enough and I can find no better way in the month of May than the Seattle Mom Prom.
I attended last year’s first annual Seattle Mom Prom with two friends and we had a blast LITERALLY from the moment we parked to the end of our evening. There were tons of giggles, too much “slumber party food”, crazy dance moves I haven’t performed since middle school, glasses of wine, tiaras, and what prom would be complete without prom pictures. Best of all, it’s all for charity with proceeds from the Seattle Mom Prom benefiting Postpartum Support International of Washington.
Seattle may not have the first or the only Mom Prom but you are guaranteed a fun night out, trust me! You can find one in your area or even be the founder of a Mom Prom in your state. Our Prom Queen here in Seattle is Myla Rugge; she has an infectious optimism and loves to have parties and bring women together.
The Seattle Mom Prom is not only moms, but it is exclusively ladies on May 21, 2011 at the Fremont Abbey Arts Center from 8pm until Midnight.
If you live in the Seattle area you can find out more by staying tuned to the Seattle Mom Prom website, Liking their Seattle Mom Prom Facebook page, and Tracking them on Twitter @SeattleMomProm.
And last but NOT LEAST, you can purchase Seattle Mom Prom tickets! It’s best to do it ASAP as the rate is on a sliding scale depending on the date of purchase. If you purchase now you’ll pay only $25, April 13-May5 is $30, starting May 6 is $35, and if you purchase a ticket at the door then it’s $40. You can purchase a ticket for yourself or sponsor a ticket (for $35). Sponsored tickets will be distributed to women in the community who would like to attend the event but can’t afford to buy a ticket. This is a great option even for those of our followers who aren’t local and would like to make a difference for a mom in need of a night out.
The price of the ticket includes a tiara (if you don’t bring your own); drink tickets; dessert, candy and snacks (One of the sponsors* again this year is Trophy cupcakes; YUM!); dancing, dancing, dancing with a real live DJ (not just an MP3 player hooked up in the background); unlimited Prom photos with the event photographer; and you get entered to win door prizes*. There is also the option to purchase extra tickets for the raffle* and there will be a silent auction*! This year you can also nominate yourself or a local mom for the Mom of the Year Award – we all have those days were we feel need … nay … deserve this award. At the second annual Seattle Mom Prom you could be one of the select moms to win MOM OF THE YEAR!
Hope to see you at the Seattle Mom Prom. I’ll be the one wearing my TOMS and some dress yet to be determined; I believe in dressing for comfort and fun! Do you have an old dress you’d love to give a second life; what will you be wearing?
* SIDE NOTE: If you’re a company and want to help by giving a donation you can contact Myla Rugge through her Mom Prom email address [seattlemomprom@live.com].

I’ve got a few giveaways you might want to check out too!
Last night Michael Angelo’s Family Size Lasagna saved dinner in our house. I was on the go all day running errands and I didn’t have time to cook. So I popped in Michael Angelo’s in the oven for 45 minutes and continued on with my errands (my husband was home to make sure the house didn’t burn down). I was quite impressed with flavor and texture of the lasagna. Most importantly, it’s so easy to make for days like yesterday when I barley had a moment to myself. All you have to do is take it out of the freezer, lift one corner of the box to ventilate, place on a cookie sheet and place it in the oven at 400 degrees for 30 minutes and then take off the cover completely and cook for an additional 10 minutes or until it’s bubbly and the cheese is brown. (also see box for the exact temperature it needs to reach). I had to cook mine for an extra 10 minutes beyond what it requested. Ovens do vary!
I liked it so much that I had some leftovers for lunch and we’re having it gain for dinner tonight. I’m not going to be wasting any of it. Michael Angelo’s started off with a mom cooking in her kitchen. Michael Angelo’s does not add preservatives, artificial additives or flavors to any of their meals.
Do you like watching Unwrapped? When my husband and I had cable we were hooked on almost all of the night time Food Network shows and Unwrapped was one of our favorites. We both have fond memories of Marc Summers and we love to find out the history behind brands. I’m going to show you all a segment from Unwrapped’s episode about about “Comfy Cozy” favorites where among the many tasty options was the traditional Meat Lasagna from Michael Angelo’s Gourmet Foods
In the segment, founder and CEO Michael Angelo Renna and his mom Sara show viewers how they make their delicious Meat Lasagna, featuring high-quality, premium ingredients like the fresh 100% premium beef, real Italian-style cheeses, ripe hand-selected tomatoes, aromatic heirloom garlic, earthy herbs and spices and fresh semolina pasta. All of these ingredients come together to create a comforting and wholesome lasagna in the same fashion as homemade. And I can vouch for the quality, having eaten two servings already!!
