Girl Playing Dead Caught on Google Street View

My husband sent me this and it really disturbs me. The girl says she was playing a game with her friend but I still find the whole thing game or not to be very odd. Why would you be playing a game where you are just pretending to be dead? Maybe I’m just getting old and don’t remember what it was like to play with my friends.

Of course, it also brings up the question of privacy, but for some reason that doesn’t bother me as much as the girl playing dead in the street. What do you think? What is creepier, the thought of losing your privacy to all of these cameras taking photos of our streets or a girl playing dead and caught on camera?

  1. Hmmm, I remember playing dead when we’d play “cops and robbers” or “cowboys and indians”. Maybe it was something like that, although this girl looks to be a little old for that. Do the cameras bother me? A little, but they don’t show anything that a person wouldn’t see if they were actually the one driving down the street. If the cameras were there all the time watching in real time…oh yeah, that would be creepy and way too much! I know they are in some public areas (like Times Square, for instance). That really doesn’t bother me too much. If I’m in a public area I know that I am subject to a loss of privacy in many ways.

There was another Google Street View of Amesterdam that zoomed in on the red light district into a window with a prostitute standing in the window surrounded by various… toys. That was taken down. I think the potential invasion of privacy is more disturbing than the girl on the street. As long as they verify it wasn’t a hit-and-run or death and the girl is alive and well, I don’t see how it’s worth it to fuss. There are so many other things in the world to worry about.

Depend on how long the girl played dead I guess and to what extent. I think children like to pretend many things they don’t understand in order to try and understand. I think a comcept like death is strange to them; some isn’t around any more??? I don’t ever remember playing dead, but we used to pretend we were pregnant and my mom HATED that! But we didn’t understand it all.

Neither bother me at all…why should they? How is a camera driving down the street an invasion of privacy any more than any other of the hundreds of cameras around the city? I used to play dead as a kid too. We would see how long it would take for someone to notice us – or like a staring competition, see who could go the longest without moving.
