Zoe has been ready for at least two months to go to school. She is so very excited about going to preschool and getting homework. While I was at BlogHer, a friend of mine, Erica (she works for 5minutesformom) was telling me everything she needs to get done in a week for back to school with her three children. That reminded me that I have a lot to do too. Two of the things being, calling the doctor for a copy of the immunization records and the other, finding out where the registration forms are.
I called the school and the doctor and have started the process of getting Zoe into school. My next problem is going to be how am I going to deal with my son, who’s entire world is his sister. I’m a small part of his world but he seems to handle when I leave and go on a trip but whenever he is away from his sister he gets really depressed. Hopefully, I can get him as interested in doing “home work” as his sister is. Then we can practice our letters, shapes, numbers and working with scissors.

Zoe just loves practicing her letters and working on numbers. She can sit for hours just learning and working on these things.
So my goal is that while Zoe is off at Pre-school for 3 hours every couple of days is to get Miles interested in academics a little more, but more than that it’s going to be about having time alone with mommy. I’ll have lots of one on one time with him and I’m really excited about it. I’m also excited to practice shapes and letter recognition. This is the age that Zoe was when she started learning her alphabet.

I’d love to win these for my kids – we’re getting ready to do school “officially” after Labor Day, but we’ve started working on reading and handwriting this month.
I am using a workbook with my son that has counting and shapes in it. He is pretty good at letters right now, but he is not good at drawing them.
Before the summer started my son’s school gave him a workbook for the summer. It was been fun working through it with him. Of course he had an incentive, the school told the kids that if they bring the completed workbook with them on the first day of school then they get a special surprise prize. So my son was all for it.

We use some great apps on the iPad to practices letters and numbers.
Oh I would so love to win this for my little man who is also about to start preschool…he’s got all of his shapes, numbers, colors, letters, etc. down but could definitely work on his fine motor skills!
My daughter is 3 & will be going to preschool. She knows her letters, but we are working on the sounds they make & what words start with the letters ( a is for apple, etc). It’s amazing how quickly they learn at this age!

LB, get Miles into toddler group! Then he can go “to school” too … at least 1 day a week! Toddler Group is all about socialize but it sounds like he could use some of that too with Zoe gone. He’ll learn a little bit more about himself without sister around … and you will too! What an exciting time in your lives!
Jamison and I work on letter recognitions and phonics … it’s not too interested in writing or coloring/art. Mainly we let him leave by playing and not so much hitting the books. =)
we are getting ready for preschool with my 3-year old son by: learning abc’s and letter sounds, numbers and counting up to 20, and shapes… we do this by reading books, workbooks, and just mentioning objects around the house and what letter and sounds they start with. I also play and abc tennis game with him because learning has to be “action” with my son…. we have foam letters from a puzzle…. I hold up the letter and when he says the letter and sound correctly, I toss it in the air and he gets to hit it with his tennis racket. We have also been doingsome scissors work.

we spend a lot of time reading out loud going over sounds together, we also have games to help with shapes, colors, letters, and direction
We have the Summer Bridge Activity Books that my 4-year old LOVES to do. She calls it her “homework” and actually requests to do it a few times a day. I love that she loves to learn! She also loves practicing her letter by writing people’s names.
