that is where my grandad and his family came to the USA
I have never been before. I don’t think the relatives that I know came through their but I think some of my grandmother’s family did. I have to check with her but I took a picture of their names.
I was just there! Did a bit of research for $5 to discover that we thought “our people” can through NY, but it must’ve been Boston. Hope you got one of the free tours from a Park Ranger … very informative!
We had a tour guide with us the whole day. It was a little sad some of the information he gave us, but it was good to know. You can do all of the research for free on-line from home too. If you needed more time. I thought that part was a little crazy, 5.00 for on-site machine use I guess!
I think this is the biggest piece of history we have. I’m so glad they invested. In fixing it and perserving it.
I’m really glad they have restored it as well. They are also putting all of the manifests on-line so that people can find their anscesters on-line. It’s pretty cool!

My family has been here longer than that although they settled in new york…..they had an islandin the hudson…..they had ice houses…..the island is still named after them

It was a lot of fun, hot but fun. I’ll write more about it when I get my brain back, there is so much to cover form the trip, I bet you have the same problem, and already being on another trip, I can’t imagine!
Great photo. I’v never been but DH has and he’s got family that came over from the old country through there waay back when. Would like to visit someday.
What an eventful place to visit! Since my family is in the process of becoming US Citizens through immigration, this is somewhere I’d love to visit someday!
