What is on the Barbeque?

hunts I love eating off the grill and summer time means more opportunities to eat outside. Conagra has the trio of necessities for an outdoor grilling session, mustard, ketchup, and of course hot dogs and they sent me a sample of all three to try out. At family barbeques every summer it seemed like the hotdogs were the hottest of the commodities. Probably because kids usually prefer hotdogs to hamburgers and since I was a kid that’s what I remember there being more of.

The Hebrew National hotdogs are made with premium cuts of beef and no fillers, by-products, artificial flavors or colors. I have two packages of them in my freezer just waiting for the perfect day. I’m looking forward to having them with the Gulden Mustard, and other members of my family will prefer the Hunt’s ketchup. With Hunt’s 100% Natural Ketchup (made with no high fructose corn syrup) or Gulden’s spicy brown mustard, you have all the makings of a classic summer dinner.

Conagra has really earned my support coming out of Blissdom. From there they made a ton of relationships with bloggers and together they did a lot of charity work making donations to food banks across the US. I wasn’t involved in any of this, but I saw it happening and love the teamwork put together for such a great cause. It’s just something small that I want to mention because it means a lot to me when large corporations put forth energy to help local communities.

Conagra makes a ton, I mean a TON of great products and brands.

Borders Summer Reading Challenge Giveaway

doubledogI have always had a love for reading and I think it had to do with my dad. He read to me every night before we said our prayers. Then as our family grew, he read to all of us. It was amazing that no matter how tired he was he always did this with us until we were old enough to read on our own. Then we went to bed and read on our own, I came to love reading so much that I always had a book in my hands, I love to read on the bus, in the bath tub and sometimes while I’m walking. My husband reads and walks too!

Now that we have kids of our own we’re trying to encourage that love of reading in them. We seem to have it easy so far, which makes me think that kids follow by example. At least our kids do, and I’m not naive I understand that it could change any day now.

Borders wants to encourage reading by giving away free books. Double Dog Dare Summer Reading Program at Borders is going on now. Read 10 books, fill out the Reading Participation Form and run in to borders and pick out a book from their list of free books.

To help you get your children reading we are providing tips every week. Last weeks tip was from Jon Scieszka, author of Robot Zot and Knucklehead: Tall Tales and Almost True Stories of Growing up Scieszka. This week you have me and HarperCollins.

 

Tips From Me:

Be an example to your children, read your own books in front of them.

Read out loud to your kids often, at least one book a day.

The Mark of Distinction

markham You all know that charity is very dear to me. I try to give away most of my donations to local charities. I’ve given to local food bank many times, and recently I donated over 1500.00 in products to the Eastside Domestic Violence Shelter. I even have a new stack ready to donate to a new charity soon. It’s really exciting to make a difference in my community and blogging allows me to do that. Because of how much it means to me I wanted to share this opportunity with all of you:

Markham Vineyards, the Napa Valley winery known for its community involvement, recently announced its call for applicants to the third-annual Mark of Distinction program.  This program was started in 2008 to motivate individuals to make a positive impact in their community.  It rewards two winners with $25,000 grants each to help them make a lasting change – or “Mark of Distinction” in their communities. 

To enter, go to the “Nominations” page on www.MarkhamMarkofDistinction.com anytime before July 19th and submit a proposal of no more than 300 words that describes the initiative and inspiration along with a brief budget that details how the project funds will be used.  On August 10th, 10 finalists will be chosen and featured on the Mark of Distinction website, where the public can vote for their favorite two projects, who will each receive $25,000 grants to turn their passion into a reality.

Epson PictureMate Show Review and Giveaway

Epson makes a lot of great Techie Products, projectors, scanners and printers to name a few. They even bring a new definition to portable printers.

Epson sent me a PictureMate Show to review, it retails for 299. It is different from most printers in that it only prints 4 by 6 photos or smaller, you can divide the photo into 4 and print 4 2 by 3 photos.

It is unique because it has the screen, it’s not a touch screen, it comes with a remote that you can use to navigate the menus. The screen can read all the photos on any digital card and show them as a photo show. The best part is that after you print a photo it is stored on the hard drive so after you print and take out your cards then you can watch all of the photos you printed. My daughter was so excited the other day to see a photo of her puzzle she took. We were doing an organizational project and she was helping. You can choose from 12 different slideshow formats, there is a calendar, a clock, and a museum tour just to name a few.

You can print in 37 seconds, it’s quiet, ink is easy to load, you just push it in with your finger like you can see in the photo above. The screen is 16:9 tilt digital photo display with WVGA resolution (800 x 480) to easily view and edit photos. It has a handle for easy portability and you can get a case for it to protect it for travel.
